  1. I did it on mine and it is very easy to do. You will have to go to a electronics store and get an older style DIN cable (don't remember which number), rerun your existing cable under the seat and up between both seats. My wife says that was the best thing other than the armrests that I did for her. This is a very easy fix and I'm surprised not too many riders do this for their passengers. When she does not use it, it stores in the pouch behind my backrest.
  2. They aren't as pretty as some but my wife really enjoyed them. She wouldn't ride without them.
  3. Don't forget...sure, in a car you can go 8000 miles on synthetic but in our bikes, we are running that same oil in both the engine and the tranny. More chances of picking up metal from the gears which can migrate all over the engine before being picked up by the mag plug or the filter. I'd rather be safe than sorry down the line. I won't "trip over a dollar bill to pick up a dime"! Just my 5 cents. Brian
  4. There is a mixing chamber up on top of the engine down inside the "V" and under the carbs. I remember a few members mentioning that the gasket under the cover could leak. Don't ask me what that chamber is for but I know that water and maybe oil runs through there. Someone else will probably chime in if it rings a bell. Brian
  5. With my Dyna set at 7500 RPM...103 in 3rd gear and really climbing. GPS was installed and is pretty close to my Speedohealer results. I upshifted to 4th and backed off at 110 because life is just too short. I know she'll go by 120 no problem the way it was accelerating! I "FEAR NO EVO"!!! Brian
  6. Nice looking trike!! I'm thinking of converting my 03 in the near future...do you know of anyone in the Northeast that are licensed from Hannigan to do this. I would do it myself but from what I understand, Hannigan has to do the conversion. Triwing is a do it yourself kit but not near as nice as Hannigan. My brother-in-law down in FLA had his Ultra done and it turned out a superb job. How much did the job cost you besides the paint? I'd like to keep mine the original color. Brian
  7. A lesson learned a long time ago...MEASURE TWICE! CUT (drill) ONCE!!! I set mine by, temporarily taped it to the trunk, measured, adjusted then drilled. The wiring was the worst part of the install since the rear pillion was removed to get to the correct wire clips. What a difference in the looks of the bike AND the extra visability from the LEDs. Have fun! Brian
  8. Welcome to the site and "well done" on your windshield redo. I like the cut you gave it leaving more material up in the corners. New blood usually comes out with great new ideas sometimes. I'm buying a new tall shield soon but will keep the old one for trying out your cut. BTW, our son lives in Summerlin, Vegas and can't wait to back out there again. Nice area but the heat does get pretty intense on the summer.
  9. I agree 100%. No sense putting in a new battery if the system is not feeling well! You'll only be installing another battery shortly!
  10. I have a 03 RSV which has had a B Tender since I've had it...the battery never has come out of the bike and it is the original. Voltage specs are still where they belong but I have a brand new spare battery, just in case. My 83 Venture Royale would cost me one battery per year on average but it never was hooked up to a Tender. I think my Tender has paid for itself a few times! Brian
  11. Came to a stop while pulling out of a CVS parking lot and when I put my foot down...nothing there! I was right over a water trough and my feet wouldn't touch the ground. Down she went to the right...picked it up like they show in the articles and after forgetting to drop the kickstand down first...down she went on the opposite side!! DUMB A$$???? I still have nightmares about that. Thank God it was with my 1st Gen Royale and not this one!
  12. I installed mine about 4 yrs ago and like you said...the instructions are not the best. Must be the Japanese to English translation. I basically measured twice than three times and drilled once! Drill in the wrong place ane it could make you hit the beerjoint! Cut out the template and really center it where it will work the best and tape it to the trunk well. Think, think, think and you will really love the end product. Brian
  13. Mike...I wonder how the stock air cleaner covers would look...do you think they could be done the same way? Brian (BTW...03s are still the best looking one out there)
  14. Make sure you are not using the "fuel saving" oils that are on the market. That will mess up your fiber discs. It could also just be a weak clutch diaphram spring. It happened on mine at 15,000miles and I replaced just the spring....case solved. Brian
  15. This is a set of AirWings I got at the Americade last year. BIG Difference! They are 2 pc and I can direct the air lower and higher. I've got plenty of room for my feet at the pegs, also. Brian
  16. My 83 would start talking to me when it was time for a carb sync. It seems that the engine would start running rough and it would cause a backlash in the internals. Synced the carbs and the noise would go away. My G2 does the same but not as bad....not nearly as much mileage I guess! Brian
  17. I have a shock off of a 2003 RSV and here is what I can figure out as close as my scale will bring me: C/L to C/L of holes is 9-15/16" Bolt holes look like 7/16"...Would need to measure more closly with pins. Dia of top section is about 3" dia Width of top lug is 1 1/8" Width INSIDE bottom lug is 1- 7/16" Width OUTSIDE bottom lug is 1- 3/4" I presume the actual dims are in metrics so if you need those conversions, I'd have to get my calipers at the shop. Let me know if that helps. Brian
  18. My wife and I just turned 62 and still feel much younger especially when on the bike. Barb enjoys riding more and more as we get older. I started riding at 55 on an 83 VR and haven't looked back since. I really love my 03 for the comfort. When the day comes that I'm having a tough time holding ourselves up on the bike is the day I'll convert to a trike!! My only trauma so far has been laying the bike down at a stop cause when I put my feet down...there was nothing there. I was stradling a dip on the side of the road...only hurt my pride!! Brian
  19. My bike reacts completely differently with the E3s on especially in the twisties. Steering is much crisper snd it feels more sure footed and so far...no cupped treads because of the design of the tread and the stiffer sidewalls. I love them, not to say anything really bad about the 404s because when it was new it seemed to handle just fine for me. The road noise when leaning just started to really get to me so I switched them with many miles left on them. Brian
  20. If you do alot of high speed super slab driving, the center treads of the tires wear faster than the edges...leaving a cupped pattern on the inner edges of the outer treads. As you lean, this cupping is what makes the noise as it contacts the pavement. Some brands and models are more prone to cupping that others.. the E3 seems to wear better and without cupping for me so far. Just check out the differences in the design of the treads and you'll see what I mean. Brian
  21. When I changed out my 404s to E3s, I noticed that the treads were cupped along the edge of the contact patch. Leaning it into corners would make them scream like a real aggressive set of winter tires.. The noise seemed to have started suddenly...more so at higher speeds and getting worse at lower soeeds as the tires were wearing more. No more noise...E3s for me. Brian
  22. Motorcote won't fix a tire howl. Pour it on your tires and all you'll hear is the sound of sirens!! LOL!
  23. If that's the case...my next tourer will be a Wing. SAD!!
