How much HP can be built into a 2nd RSV?
boominup replied to KiteSquid's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
If you have the $$$ to go to that extreme, you might as well go for the Big Block BOSS HOSS. The engineering is already done. And also, you have a constant reminder of when to change your rear tire...at every fuel stop! -
V&H Monster Ovals

No, everything is stock except the pipes. Didn't notice any difference in the way it always ran. But the sound coming out of it made all the difference in the world for me. Just enough rumble. -

Exactly what was different about mounting them to the RK brackets? I have mine mounted directly to the bag brackets with a welded support I made. This is very sturdy and easy to do as long as you have a small mig welder. -

Now that is a sweet looking install!! Did you have to take out a second mortgage on your house to get these? -

I have an almost new set of stock pipes. Never drilled and in really nice shape. I'm in central CT.- 5 replies

I agree with Eddie. Best thing to do is replacing your antenna with a premiun one like a Firestick or the like and also make sure your SWRs are in sync. Mine performs well enough for what I need, like group rides, so I'm leaving well enough alone for now. Brian

I have a stand alone "Skyfi III" on my 03 and that's the only music I listen to. I thought about getting a GPS with XM but I bought the bike to get lost, so I don'tneed any contraptions to find myself again. LOL! Brian

Straightening Shifter?

HMMM! Gotta check that out! I just installed a set of AirWings and that did take a little bit of room away for shifting. Brian -
It is 7500 rpms on MY 2nd Gen. Thank you DynaTech!! Brian

My 1st bike ever was an 83 VR. Sure it was a good ride but no way does it compare to my 03 in comfort, especially for my "Rev Limiter" in the back seat. How fast do I need to go, anyhow?? If that's all there is to riding, I'da traded it in on an 1800 Wing. Brian

Last time I went against a 1st Gen I had to BACK OFF because there was so much broken plastic coming at me!! Harleys shed nuts and bolts, 1st Gens shed plastic!! LOL!! Brian

This was my 1st event but I think this was the 8th year. It is a very successful event and it helps to send special needs kids to the Special Olympics. I'll never forget the smiles on their faces when this event got rolling. Brian- 7 replies

This is just a sample of yesterday's sea of chrome. It was the "Miracle Ride for Special Olympics" held at the Polo Grounds in Farmington , CT. Some are saying approx. 10,000 people!! You had better remember where you left your bike!! Delphi SkyFi3 Install info
boominup replied to JerryK's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
OK, went out and took a couple of pix. My Skyfi is mounted on a bracket from http://www.cyclegadgets.com/images/HG-30997c.jpg I got the chrome version and it really works well. As far as the bundle for the extra antenna wire, next time the fairing comes off the wires will disappear inside. I temporarily mounted the antenna onto the L/S resevoir cover with some mounting tape which comes off easily if need be. So far, no issues except the unit powers on every time I start the bike even though I'm on AM, FM etc. because the power socket comes on and off with the switch. No big deal since I mostly listen to XM anyhow. Let me know if you have any more questions. I love this radio. BTW, bring a ZipLok sandwich bag with you in case of rain. These are not waterproof and I still like to listen rain or shine. Brian -

Don't the hinges on some saddlebags have a tendancy to loosen up on some bikes? Thought I read that somewhere. Brian -
20 W 50 V-Twin oil

WallyWorld is probably the best deal around for synthetic. I use Mobile1. Brian -
It's called "Wrinkle Finish" and I got a can at AutoZ0ne for about $8. I cleaned off the motor with orange formula engine cleaner, removed the fake fins, taped the chrome and whatever, sprayed it on and let it dry. I put multiple coats but it takes a while to dry. I was pretty dissapointed at first because the wrinkling didn't seem to happen fast enough for me, but lo and behold, after a couple of hours, the desired outcome appeared. I hope it will stand up like the directions say it will. BTW, I buffed the tips of the fins with my Dremel tool and a small drum sander attachment. Brian

NO,NO, it's not what you think it is!! Last week, I had some time to kill so I wrinkled the motor. I got some black wrinkle paint from AutoZone and went to work. I like the looks. The grey that it came through with just didn't do it for me. Brian

On these RSVs, what resides on the back seat is the 2 up "Rev Limiter"!! It usually kicks in at about 4500-5000 RPMs and intensifies with the RPMs. When I ride alone, I can make it kick in at about 7500 RPMs. Only sweet engine noises!! Brian
-
It takes a little while for the oil pressure to snug up the cam chain tensioners and then the noise goes away. All of the oil from the top drains down into the pan overnight and it just takes a little while to get around to the topside. Mine has done that since day it but it always quiets down. I usually leave it at a slow idle till it levels off, then I take off with it. It worried me also when I first got it but now it's second nature. Don't forget, many of these beasts in our forum are in the 6 figures for mileage and the noise is still present without any problems. Brian

I hear you. I wish I could find a COMPLETE one. I'd probably go for one also, just for kicks! Brian

I had an 83 "Warshin Masheen" and now have an 03 RSV. The only reason the 1st Gen is a bit quicker is because non of them have any plastic left on them, rendering them to being a V-Max!! You have to have stock in Duct Tape to keep them together!! Am I right or not??? I'd never go back to the 1st Gen but the RSV really has good blood lines. BTW!!! Remember 2nd GEAR??? Brian

Changed my battery this AM and tuned the Dyna down to 7500 RPMs. Local tuner says this motor will be safe there. Not that I'm in that range very often but every so often it's nice to know I've got it. I don't normally go over 6500 since I have the tach now. Brian
