  1. Hi Rick, I'll attempt to jack my bike up this coming Sat. I have alot of winter "stuff" around it right now but I'll get it done for you. I'm kinda curious myself what the sag might be. I normally run 3 psi in the front forks. It'll also give me a chance to try out my new Craftsman jack. Brian
  2. Rick, should there be air in the shocks?? Brian
  3. I had the Rivcos on my 1 Gen and I loved them because they looked good and they got your attention. I have the Stebel on my 2nd Gen because I couldn't see myself spending all that $$$ to have to hide it UNDER the bike on the swingarm. Believe me, the Stebel is even louder than the Rivco and I haven't had a bit of problem with it in 3 yrs. Brian
  4. If I remember right, as a former 1st Genner, we needed all the practice we could get. I got to be a pretty good wrench on my VR after a while but after owning a 2nd Gen for 3 years, I've forgotten pretty much everything about fixin my bike cause I haven't had to fix it! I really like the 1st Genners piping in on how to fix them once in a while cause it really keeps it green on what I had to go through. LOL!!! Brian
  5. I prefer riding behind 1st Gens so I can pick up the broken pieces of plastic for you guys. If it wasn't for us, your bikes would look like choppers! LOL! Brian
  6. WOW, I'm almost afraid to ask. We wish you the best on your recovery. Very sorry to hear about your mishap. Glad to hear you are around to talk about it. I know that the cruise control actuator , a horn and some electronics is behind the left cowl. I've never had mine off but I looked in my Clymer's manual and that stuff was all in there. There must be quite a bit more in there because it looks packed with stuff. I wish you the best and keep in touch. Brian
  7. Vance, I located a 2ft cable on one of those links, do you think it would be long enough to reach the backrest stem like you did yours? There is also a 6ft coiled cable that might do the trick. It coils down to about 1.5ft. THANX, Brian
  8. Here is what my RSV looks like with RoadKing muffs. I've got only the rear baffles drilled out at present and I'm very happy with the sound. I agree that the stockers sound like a fart in church even if they are drilled out. Brian
  9. Vance, I showed my wife both scenarios and she is still liking your setup better because she says she can easily hookup after she is situated on the bike. Moving it to the grab bar would be easier for me to modify but she says she'd still have to fumble to find the plug especially when we are bundled up for cold weather riding. If I can find the 5 pin DINN plug, I'll try it your way. If not, I'll go the grab handle route like 01 RIDER suggested. At any rate, everyone who donates ideas to these forums surely are helpful. Brian
  10. Vance, What a terrific idea that is or rerouting the passenger's headset cable!! I showed this to my honey and she just about did backflips ! Another thing on the "To Do" list, she says. THANX, Brian
  11. Back when I installed my Stebel, I called their info line for just that same reason of why it should be installed vertially and not laying down. Their answer was so debris and WATER, which is this units worst enemy can easily drain out when washing your bike or running it through heavy downpours. IF it is installed in a protected area like inside your fairing, it may be laying horizontally as long as the trumpet is pointing down so any water that might get in can escape easily. 12. How about your float adjustment or a "heavy" float? It doesn't have to be off by much to cause an overflow. Brian
  13. OK! Here is my take on the 2nd Gen whine vs the 1st Gen whine. I had an 83 VR with about 43K miles when I gathered the gumshen to get rid of it for a 2nd Gen. I remember riding it (1st Gen) around town one day with all the side covers off after a spring tune-up and realizing that I thought that there was something wrong with the tranny. It seemed like there was a terrible WHINE in the drivetrain that I'd never heard before and after replacing the side covers on my bike, the whine mysteriously was almost nonexistant. My 2nd Gen has no such side panels and it has the same whine as the VR did without the panels on. It really is not that loud that it is bothersome to me but I always know it is there. It gives it a bit of character, like driving a Nascar stockcar. Straight cut gears, they both use them for strength. Like some other threads have mentioned, if this bike has warranty left and the whine is too bothersome, a simple clutch basket change to the "I" basket will most probably help, but not cure it as all that does is change the RPM/speed range that the whine will occur. These RSV's are the best rides out there (IMHO) for the buck and anything you buy out there will have some kind of quirk. Enjoy! Brian
  14. If it was a 1st Gen, you'd need someone following you with a trailer to pick up the pieces of plastic falling off. No wonder they are so quick! They don't weigh nuttin after the plastic's all fallen off! BTW has 2nd gear let you down yet??? All kiddin aside, my 83 VR was ONE HELL of a MACHINE!! But I still wouldn't replace my 2nd Gen for anything else! Brian
  15. YEH! But you needed TWO 1st Gens to hold the same amount of stuff than ours! Then, if you packed them too tightly, you couldn't open them again or the plastic would break!! Been there, Done that!! Brian
  16. 03 RSV with 13,000 TROUBLE Free miles. The only problem at the moment is WINTER SETTIN IN!!!
  17. Hi Everette, Here is the link for the light: http://www.powerpartsplus.com/pages/catalogs/detail/26/203/403/4772/1/0/0/1/4/90/69/0/travel-trunk-wing-with-light.aspx I got both the light and the rack from them. They were the best deal at the time. Brian
  18. Here they are on an 03. Brian
  19. And don't forget, that same motor oil also services the TRANNY! Gotta flush out those little silver looking metallic thingees outta there more often than every 8000 miles, Me Thinks! Brian
  20. This is the guy that can supply you with a 55 amp stator. He's the best there is. You will need to send him an old one in exchange. Price is $210 exchange. http://www.buckeyeperformance.com/ Brian
  21. Sounds to me like too much amperage for the size connectors used at the factory. Don't forget, they are doubling the output of the stock stator. Hardwiring those weak links seems to have corrected any problems they had. 5000 miles , troubefree! Brian
  22. Here you go, guys! Check this out!! It just came through today. http://www.venturers.org/Forum/viewtopic.php?t=13783 Brian
  23. I'm not sure about fitment but I'm sure there is room in there. I would use two separate relays since these horns draw lots of power. This would be no biggee since I would fire the front relay from the power to the front horn, same as the rear horn. Just go direct to the battery for the compressor and have an inline fuse or an auxillary fuse box for all those extra "toys". I'm not sure if a standard horn relay would last very long firing off 2 of these cannons! Brian
  24. I only run one. Believe me, you only need one! A few weeks ago, I used it on a teenage prissy talking on her cell phone and crowding me onto a guardrail. It surprised her so much that she flipped her phone out of the car an it got run over by an 18 wheeler! She gave me the 1 finger salute and commenced to sas me at the next traffic light to which I reminded her that what she was doing was illegal and that I would call the police if she wanted to press the issue further. She flipped me again and raced through a red light, almost running into a passing police cruiser. The rest is history. Sometimes, there is Justice!! I would never own another bike without adding a Stebel. Brian
  25. Yeh! I adjusted mine also, not long after purchasing my RSV. I adjusted it by sending it flying in the garbage can! No more problems with those horns since cause they were replaced with a Stebel! Those stock horns can be pretty anemic when you need to get someone's attention. Brian
