  1. Since installing the Dyna, I've not hit the RL yet! The OEM revs were limited to 93-95 mph before it kicked in. But now I have it set to 8000 and I've noticed 105 at 7500 rpm (and climbing!) before I chickened out. That can really get the heart pumping at that RPM and speed. I'm happy! shouldn't have to try it again!! Unless some hapless HD rider wants to find out what kinda bike I ride. Man!! Is that fun!! BTW, luv my new Barons Tach!! Glad I've got it now! Brian
  2. BTW, here are a few pix of the install:
  3. No drilling! The set comes with a classy pair of 1 in. clamps that go to your engine crash guards. My Kuryakin pegs are also mounted to these same clamps since I felt there was not enough room to have both sets of clamps one above the other. It would interfere with my shifting lever.
  4. I picked up a set of Baker Air Wings last week at the Americade and after my first ride with them, I wonder why I didn't install them long before this. I had a set on my 1st Gen but they wouldn't fit this one. The bottom section does a real fine job for the legs and the top 3rd helps with the seat area. I don't see any difference for the upper extremities but that's where the shorter windshield with vents would help. In stop and go traffic, though, forget about it!! I don't care what you ride or with what accessories you've got, your butt is gonna fry!! It took me 20 mins to install the Bakers. Brian
  5. My 03 never had it except a very slight whine at speed. It is not loud enough to notice. But I've heard of switching to the "I" basket that may make a difference on some bikes. When I parted out my 1st Gen 86, I kept the "almost brand new" clutch basket but I never got to sell it. That bike was totally quiet at speed. Just for curiosity's sake, does anyone know if they are interchangeable with the 2nd Gen? If it does, this could be a really cheap alternative for the bikes that are out of warranty. I have no idea what that goes for brand new. Brian
  6. Are they slash cut or straight like our OEMs? They may be from a Road King, but they all interchange. Brian
  7. I'll find the box and give you the P/N. I got the thing quite a while ago but can't remember where I put the box. Brian
  8. There is a switch with a button that was supplied with the tach. I mounted it next to the R/H controls. Not all Baron Tachs have that option. Brian
  9. It mounts on top of the resevoir cover with spacers and longer screws supplied. Wish I coulda got the bracket in chrome, though. Brian
  10. I just finished installing my Baron Tach on my 03 but I went a different route. After trying a minifaced tach, I wasn't too pleased with the looks plus it was so small, I had a hard time seeing it. This one was meant to install on a 1 in. handlebar but it also didn't fit right on the RSV because of limited space so I bought a Ram Mount # RAM-B-346CU which has a 1 in. ball to attach different accessories. I have all kinds of up, down, right and left adjustment. The face can be programmed with different colors and the green matches the speedo color pretty close. Check out the pix and let me know what you think. Brian
  11. The 1st Gens also had that system. Maybe you could retrofit the parts needed?? Brian
  12. Mine did!! If I held WOT for too long, I'd feel this slapping on the back of my helmet along with some screaming that the engine couldn't drown out. I noticed that my Gen 2 has that very same option!! Brian
  13. LOL!!! AMEN!!! After those rides, it usually takes me 3-4 days for my ears to stop ringing!! Brian
  14. The whine from some these bikes is more from design than from any defect. These Royal Stars have straight cut gears in the trannys which MAY produce a whine at certain RPMs. They use straight cut gears in HD truck trannys and race cars for strength. You will never hear of an RSV blowing a tranny, at least I never have. Mine has a very slight whine at certain RPMs but it is not objectionabl to me at all. With the music playing and the RK mufflers singing, I don't even notice it any more. As a matter of fact, it gives it character. I love my RSV and whatever little quirks they may have ( like any other bike does) I'll run it till the wheels fall off. It looks like it could outlive me. Brian
  15. George, is that a Hannigan? It's impressive, so far. Brian:thumbsup:
  16. Well Look at That!! A 1st Gen with some plastic left on it!! (PS...Nice looking bike, though) Brian:happy65:
  17. "P.S. thanks to all of your replies in this thread. Yes....even you antique riding or owning first genners, I got a good laugh out of it. Big Mike Just remember that many of those 1st Genners are awefully jealous of us because they hardly have any plastic left on their bikes to be worth painting. The sides of our highways are littered with 1st Gen bits and peices. Obama should impose a useage tax on them to help clean up our roads. No wonder those bikes are so fast! Their's nothing left to them!:rasberry: Brian
  18. Carb heaters would be fine if I was cruising 15000 ft in the air and it said CESSNA on the side of my ride! Brian
  19. One more thing that helps mine start easily, turn the key to the "on" position 3 or 4 times till the fuel pumps quit clicking. If the bike hasn't run in a long while, you have to make sure that they are full of fuel before trying to start it. I don't try to start it at all during hibernation and the bowls are not full when it's time to put it on the road. Brian
  20. I've got $1300 +- into it right now + my labor but I could cut my labor in half now that I now that I've got the bugs out. If I shop around for prices on mat'ls I could probably save another 20-30%. When I built this I didn't have much thought in marketing the trailer so I just bought what I needed when I needed it. My plans are to sell plans in the near future. No time or room to do this in quantity. Brian
  21. It is a similar concept except there is nothing the same with both trailers. Mine is quite a bit bigger and a bit heavier. I used 2X4 tube on the outer frame. I saved a bit of weight with the alum diamondplate. I scratch built the whole thing, even the wheel chock. Brian
  22. The front of the bed has 2 spring loaded lock pins the secure everything together. It is very solid with the pins in. Brian
  23. I've been working on a one man trailer for safely loading your bike. It'll take two smaller bikes or one large touring bike. I've only got one wheel chock built right now and I really don't need a second. Check out the pix and let me know what you think.
