Boudreaux, an 80-year-old South Louisiana Cajun, goes to the doctor for his every year check-up. The doctor is amazed at what good shape he is in and asks, "How do you stay in such great physical condition, Boudreaux?" “I stay in the swamp and I hunt and fish every day", said the old Cajun. "Dat's why I'm in such good shape. I'm up well before daylight and out hunting or fishing all day. I have a beer for breakfast and at lunch and wid my supper. And, I have a shot of hooch before bed time. And, I say my prayers every night. And all is well wid me." Well", says the doctor, "I'm sure the prayers help, but there's got to be more to it. How old was your father when he died?" "Who said Pop is dead?" The doctor is amazed. "You mean you are 80 years old and your father is still alive? How old he is?" "Pop be 100 next month," replied Boudreaux. "In fact, he hunted with me dis mornin', and den we went to a beer joint for a while and had a few beers and dat's why he's still alive. He is a tough Cajun man and he hunts and fishes everyday, too.” "Well, the doctor says, that's great! But, I'm sure there's more to it than that. How about your father's father? How old was he when he died?" "Who said my Paw Paw's dead?" Stunned, the doctor asks, "You mean you are 80 years old, your father is 100 and your grandfather is still living? Incredible! How old he is?" "We tink 'bout 118." says the old Cajun. He likes his beer, too, but he won't touch the hard stuff." The doctor is getting frustrated at this point, "So, I guess your grandfather went hunting and fishing with you and your father this morning, too?" "No, Paw Paw couldn't go dis time. He's gettin' married today." At this point the doctor is close to losing it. "Getting married! Why would a 118-year-old man want to get married?" Boudreaux looked down at the floor and mumbled "Who said he wanted to?"

Not trying to be a wet blanket here, I am just asking about the order of two items above. It would seem some what more logical to tighten the 4 final drive acorn nuts down first before tightening the axle all the way up. The reason I ask is that if there were to be any side shift of the drive hub due to rear swing arm possibly being to the outside limit of manufacturing tolerance, one would then be pulling the drive hub back into alignment with the much smaller acorn nuts & studs, more than likely with just one of them (first one tightened). The pressure is also being exerted on the flanges that the studs pass through. Not arguing, just throwing this out there. Gary

I would check for tightness off air connection hose at shock itself. Shock fitting will be hardest on to get at due to its location on top of shock assy. Check other 2 first. There is a 'union' connection I think, between the shock & the compressor on the right side top area under seat. Also check the three fittings on the air compressor itself. Soapy water works fairly well to check these. It could also be the valve in compressor has dirt in it, allowing air to flow through when it should be closed. Gary

Only 1 question to ask. Is it a gel cell battery? Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) Not a sealed lead acid, they are different. DEKA is somewhat the most often recommended here. Skydoc_17 carries them. Gary

There are two wires, just not clear in picture. TCI output is 12V- and the coils have a constant 12v+ on them. Gary

And that is fairly close to what I was told. But he seemed confident that his particular choice of a ceramic resistor was important. The COP's coils I have measure around 1.9 ohms. The VMax guys have learned the hard way not to use the COP coils with a stock TCI and no resistors. There have been several cause a quick demise of their TCI that way. The Ignitech TCI that I have has a software adjustable setting to compensate for the coil ohms by varying what they call the dwell time. I have been running them without resistors so far with no issues. Picture attached is of a COP coil if someone is wondering what they look like. There is no ignition coil wire on them. The TCI output of 12v runs right into this coil, just visible at top of coil. Entire coil is about 5" long and a little under 1" dia. Gary

Using COP's (Coil Over Plugs) can damage the TCI in your venture. This is due to the lower primary coil resistance. The VMax guys have been putting a resistor in the primary side. This was done by one of there members as a solution to prevent TCI damage. I do not know what size or wattage resistor he is using in the COP's conversion kits he sells. Asked him and he would not divulge info. Gary

If you are losing fluid and it isn't on the outside of the master cylinder, it sorta narrows down where it is going. Do you have any dripping on the left side at all? I can't see the fluid as getting pushed into the block the way the seal is on the clutch push rod. It should leak out the clutch slave-block junction surface and then to ground. There are two hose connections sort of hidden. One is near the steering neck where the rubber hose from the master connects to the steel line, then another near the foot peg where the short hose from the slave ties into the other end of the steel line. Also look at the steel line for leaks, there are a couple of place along its path it could have rubbed on the frame and be leaking. Gary -

Kill switch cuts 12v+ power supply to TCI. Side Stand cuts 12v- power supply to TCI. There are other circuits that will permit 12v- path to TCI, such as Neutral switch. Either way motor stops. Turning key off would be overall best option, so bike is not left with key turned on. This is based on schematics located at http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42357 I have reasons to think these schematics are flawed in places, though an accurate reproduction of the Yamaha original. Some of the circuits shown are of concern, including the neutral switch circuit. Gary

Brass is a copper/zinc alloy. Generally about 20~40% zinc. It will work just fine for what you are doing. Gary

I believe that ultra modern cassette system has a door on it. But I will have to admit I can't even hope to blow it off. I would have to go past one very fast to do that, and for that to happen the RSV would have to have gotten ahead of me. A'int gonna happen. Gary

But how about the air intake path and exhaust systems on the bikes. Both of these will figure into RWHP ratings. I am surprised at the 1800 Gold Wing numbers, I thought they would be better than that. Have to say I ain't scared anymore. Gary

If the rpm's drop the voltage will also drop. The stator is putting out less current. Pull the headlight fuse out of the fuse box & see if that makes any difference. Check the connector from the regulator for melting issues. Three cond. connector near the rear shock damper knob. Three white wires into it. Gary -

Okay, I'm gonna ask, how did you get voltage regulator as your final answer & did you call a friend or do a street shout out? I just don't see the regulator making it smell rich! Gary -
And this is the exact reason linked brakes are a bad idea on the 1st gens. Any time you do any braking you are using a front brake. Glad your OK Rick, been a bad year here for members. Gary
