Guys, I have had my spin on Rivco adapter since 1991. I have been using Puro-classic 10193. Now after just 1600 miles I have noticed my oil is way darker than ever using my usual Mobil1 20w50. I can't see the back of the sight glass w/o a flashlight. And I am going to change it soon. NOTE: I have dyno tuned the bike, not running rich and getting 38 mpg 75mph hiway and 43 mpg back rural roads every day. Maybe The filters are now made different or I got a bad one that the "bypass" was stuck. Thus not filtering. I once used a PureOne and found it was way too restrictive. Actually significantly lowered the oil pressure showing on my gauge. And thus used only the Purolator-classic for 20 years. Q: What spin on filters do you guys use? Wix, STP, Napa ??? ANd how clean does your oil come out?...obviously clean is a relative term. I always find the sight glass on the centerstand a good gauge. -
My question is what are the advantages of converting the oem cartridge filters to the spin on variety? Are the spin on versions a better filtering system then the oem's or is it because there's more choices using the spin ons? Also if switching to a spin on type who or where has the best conversion adapters? This is for an 83. Larry -
does anyone have a spin on oil filter adapter for a 86 that you would like to sell? or can someone get the measurements from one so i could make one. thanks,bill -
I recently put on Roto Covers. Its a long story but here is my issue. With both brake calipars off and the Roto Covers installed and the Axle bolt tighten to 75 Ft Lbs, the front wheel spins freely. The wheel goes around several times with a decent spin of the wheel. On by adding just the left calipars on, the wheel might spin maybe 1/2 turn. With both calipars on the wheel spon about 1/3 of a turn. I thought I would go for a ride and do the same spin test. It now spins about 3/4 of a turn. How freely does your front wheel spin? Any suggestion as to how I might make mine spin more freely.

Got it all back together. As I took the VR off the center stand the front forks did not seem to collapse a bit. Sat on the VR and tried to rock the VR with the front break held. Forks still did not collapse. Took it for a slow spin on my private street with a speed bump. Did some quick stops. Still did not seem to collapse. The ride also seemed a but bumpy. I'm 5 ft 8 inch about 173lb. Is this how Progressive Springs are supposed to act at really slow speeds. I will be taking it out for a lenghy spin today. Would appreciate some input just incase I should not take it for a spin yet.

Brake Pads binding on rotors

Recently I replaced both front rotors with EBC drilled ones, along with new brake pads. I noticed when I tighten the axle nut to the specified 72 ft/lbs. of torque, the wheel does not spin freely. I follow the order of tightening the different areas that the manual recommends. When I put the nut on hand tight, it does spin somewhat freely, but still binds, just less than when I tighten it down. I do have an upgraded fork brace installed. Braking all around is much improved over the stock rotors, however I am just concerned that the binding btwn the rotors and pads will do some damage. Anyone have experience with this issue?? -
OK, got this noise from the rear like a wheel bearing going down, so I put her on a lift, spin the tire and its got a spot, same place every turn, like a flat spot on bearing. So I pull the axle, then spin the tire and quite as a mouse, so I take the wheel in to the shop and have both side wheel bearing and seals replaced. Came back home put it all back together, SAME THING, with axle in and while riding same noise, axle out no noise. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks 2step

Have a 84 Royale that i don't think is running quite right. Would also like a member to take it for a spin before and after the sync. New owner and not too familiar with the bike. Tks Rob -

saw the quack i mean doc today. blood preasure is still a little high but not bad. headaches are only comming about once a week now and only if the weather changes. i swear i can predict when its going to rain. lost only 6 pounds more since getting out of the hospitial. but if ya cant walk to good you cant exersize right? went with Dianne and she got her new to her yamaha Vstar. trying to get her to post pics of it on here? if im correct its a 2005 with just over 13k on it. was lady owned? the lady that had it said shes more into 2 up with her new husband? Dianne got it for a song i think? $5300. is what she gave for it. it will need tires still has the ones that came with the bike when new. I tould her to replace them just to be safe. i did take it for a little spin .it moves darn good. she said its nothing like the ninja was. but she realy enjoys it. and for a 5 ft 5 woman? she can handle it just fine. and i like the fact that when she lets me take it for a spin. i can plant both feet on the ground with plenty of room to spare. so in 2 weeks good lord willing i can ride the venture along with her again.

The wife tore me apart one last night, for walking through the house with my boots on again. So I decided to jump on the bike and go for a quick spin, to cool down... Boy, that pissed her off even more!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

I would like a little help diagnosing this sound and determining if I need to do something about it. I first noticed a squeak that seemed to go with wheel rotation at very low speeds a few days ago. I put the bike up on a lift, pulled off the calipers and spin the front wheel. What I find is that the wheel spins more freely than the back one and makes no noise unless I spin it very very slowly. Then there is a little squeak/groan sometimes (no grinding, just a squeak) - but it does not occur at the same wheel orientation every time it happens. I hope this is a reasonable enough description... My question is is this a sign that the front wheel bearings are going? Is there a better way to check the bearings? If it is not the bearings what else could it be? Oh yea; I've read through everything I could find under front wheel squeak, front wheel bearings, wheel bearings, etc. and nothing described what I am experiencing. My apologies if this is something that has been discussed before... Thanks a lot for your help. - Rick

Having starting problems. More when the engine is hot. I've noticed that the lights are brighter when engine if reved then at idol. When engine is hot starter drags and sometimes won't turn over at all. Booster pack will make it spin and start with no problem. Just wondering if this sounds like the battery is cooked or if the stator is getting bad?

I am having trouble tightening my antenna to the base. The black plastic piece which houses the female portion of the antenna mount screws on to the base seemingly all the way and then won't tighten up. The male thread sticking up from the base into the antenna starts to spin. Is this normal and if not, is there any way to fix it? Looks like it's sealed. Thanks Kevin -
I just bought a 86 VR and it has a spin on oil filter ( Fram PH3950). I changed the oil and got a equivalent Wix filter. ( I think Fram is junk) My problem is that the filter seamed to bottom out before the seal completely seated, this was confirmed when after a bit there is a drop oil oil then after a day a small puddle of oil on the floor, coming from the bottom of the filter. I have no idea who makes this conversion to the spin on or if I have to use only the Fram junk. Anyone have any advice? or know what filters will work best on this spin on conversion? Thanks EddyG

Had a great time at the motorcycle show in Toronto yesterday,but was disappointed to see only two Ventures, one 1st generation and one 2nd with a lot of people looking it over. Also disappointed not to find more vendors with add ons, etc. I was hoping to find a lightbar for the rear. The things to sell seemed to be leathers, helmets, and sunglasses. It so motivated me to ride that I went out for a spin this morning in +3 weather --and then quickly washed the bike to get the salt residue off! Anyone else make the show?
