lowering the rear?

Baron has the kit and it will lower your Venture to about an inch. With that said, Baron recommends the relocation of your rear caliper so that it does not interfere with the rear fender. So I would guess that if you drop about 1 inch, you will have to relocate your caliper. At any rate, I have in my garage a Brand New Rear Lowering Kit in an unopened case - that is the Baron Rear Lowering Kit Part # BA-7530-00. This kit comes with the relocation hardware for your Caliper. When I got my Venture, I thought I will have to lower it...but decided not too. Glad I didn't lower the bike for it handles great. At 5'5" and riding 2 up, it feels just fine going to a stop...but I do understand your preference of having more control with a lower rear on your Venture. So if you are interested with the Baron Rear Lowering kit, give me a reasonable offer...it is For Sale. Mike -
In order for me to reach a plug wire, I simply remove the seat and clamp it to the right rear cylinder - I think that is plug wire #3. The tach is very easy, IMO.

I've experienced those hard to loosen type filters and the way I do it is to just punch a hole (not drill) with a screw driver and push it through/inside the oil filter and turn it that way. It gets messy, but at least I was able to remove the filter. I can see why you got real scared about those metal filings on the pan...glad you remembered what you did.- 17 replies

Wow, you do ride a lot. It does makes sense to put expensive synthetic oil, if you plan to just change oil every 8K miles or more. Glad to hear this is working out good for you.- 17 replies

I did a search for you and found this website that has the exact type of tachometer I am using everytime I carbtune. On my bike, my idle is set at apx. 1000 rpm everytime I synch my carbs. http://www.ntxtools.com/network-tool-warehouse/ESI-325-p-ESI.html

I use a Craftsman Rubber strap wrench to remove the filter. My regular metal filter wrench that I use on my car is too big to fit in the space.- 17 replies

Rotella T5 10W30 Synthetic Oil

Hi straycatt. I still have my T5 jug and had been reading more about JASO DH2 classification. So far, I don't see any problems if we use the T5 on our bikes. I have Rotella 15W40 dino in my bike now and soon will be changing for winter oil...that is 10W30. Just like you, I may at this point give it a try and assume the risk. 900 miles to go until my next oil change. -

The back of the container has "JASO DH2" that was developed specifically for Japanese automotive diesel engines equipped with aftertreatment devices - according to what I've read. So at this point I am not so sure about the oil and I agree with you as well...return the bottle of oil and get my refund. -

I picked up the Oil this morning at Walmart for a nice price. It is Synthetic and the oil grade is recommended for our Venture as stated on the sticker in the trunk. T5 also has JASO certifications listed in the back of the container, but it does says Energy Conserving in front of the label. Has anybody used this in their Venture?

You are right. A lot of members will say not to use Energy Conserving oil on our bike or else clutch slippage is bound to happen. Why didn't you just change back to regular moto oil and hopefully clutch slippage will go away? Did you try that rout before changing out your clutch with negative results? Anyway, I am slowly educating myself and reading a lot about clutch replacement in this forum. Still undecided what type of clutch I am going to get, when it is time to replace. Ride safe.

Hello ken. As fas as I know and according to the thread, some owners have been experiencing radio static when they install the LED passing lamps as was discussed on the link. LEDs for running tail and signals, I've never experienced static problems considering I have LEDs on my running front, rear, and taillight including the HD auxilliary light that has been fitted with Red LED lights. It may be just a problem with LED passing lamps from the vendor.

As far as your clutch is concerned, I am curious as to what mileage did it start acting on you and prompted a replacement. My bike is 300 miles shy of 20K with no bad clutch symptoms yet (knocking on wood).

+1 on that. I was hoping you guys are also talking about a better alternative for a side marker. Still patiently waiting for Custom Dynamics to make one up for the RSV (wishfully thinking).

As mentioned, be quick but right on the money. You don't want to crossthread your caliper and clutch bleeder threads. Have an old rug on hand - it will run but not fast enough for you to panic. Congrats on your purchase of SpeedBleeders, they are the best.

I read your post and came across this thread not too long ago discussing LED passing lamps and the issue of static on the radio. After reading the static issue, I shied (sp.?) away from these units for now. The static complaints may be isolated, but it may also be an issue on my RSV. Windshield mod done

I was at my local dealership yesterday for a front tire mount and balance job and got a few minutes to walk around their showroom. There I saw a 2008 Venture with a small windshield that about 4 or 5 inches tall - the bike is For Sale too. I thought it was a good idea to have a short windshield, if one prefer to have more wind in the face. I think it is nicely done, to say the least. As to your windshield, I notice the two top corners are a little sharp to my taste. Perhaps, smooth out those corners for safety sake. What do you think? -

I always welcome your comments, Goose. No problem on that. I understand everything you've said and I am glad to know that you are happy with your current tires, Avons. I've tried Dunlops and Metzlers previously, but not on a Venture. I still love my Bridgestones and 100% happy that I have achieved happiness everytime I ride. As far as replacing my front tire is concerned, it went well with no problems at all. I hope this thread encourages another rider who has not tackled the job before. Believe me, it is so easy...just take your time and enjoy working around your bike. -

Hi Goose. I know very well how you feel about the Bridgestones and that is ok. It is all about preference at this point. To me, I am very happy with how the OEM brand tires handle so I did not try any other brand of tire. For $88 bucks (front tire) with free S/H, I think I got the best deal out there as far as I'm concerned. Perhaps someday, I may try another brand but that decision may not come soon.
