  1. My co-worker went for a long ride totalling over 5K miles RT. She ended up having a new tire installed while on vacation. You could potentially face the same scenario and there is nothing wrong with that. I am sure there are vendors along the way that will take care of the issue. Ride safe.
  2. There are different kinds of 45 degree stems out there. Just make sure it doesn't hit the calipers as the tire spins.
  3. I am close to 24K and thinking about not to perform a valve adjustment, if everything else feels and sound perfect on the bike. I have been changing oil regularly and not abusing the engine. I'll have to think about this more as I get close to 26K + miles. T_T:whistling:
  4. I wish you guys live closer. I'd love to watch how the adjustment is done. Hopefully someday, someone can host a MD here in Pa. Have fun working on your bikes.
  5. 35 on 5th, I don't think I'll ever do that. In fact, when I picked up my bike from the dealer...the mechanic stated that you must be up to speed travelling around 60 to 65 before I shall hit OD. He said the bike will use more fuel if I shift to soon and at a slow speed. I do like to hear my engine rev at high rpms...
  6. Yep, I also would just buy new pads in this case.
  7. Looks like a resolution is determined for the pads. This thread got me thinking about the oil and how it ended up on the rear pads. Please share where the oil came from...(might be another thread).
  8. Thanks for posting this thread. It now reminds me to do my own carb synch this weekend.
  9. True, anything can hit the radiator and cause an expensive repair. I've never really thought about something that can damage the radiator. As for the rad guard, where is the best place to purchase one? Link?
  10. I double checked my gear oil weight that is in the garage and it is 80W90 weight. The 75W145 looks to be a little heavier, but I am inclined to give it a try.
  11. Yep, I saw that 80W140 at Walmart as well as the 75W90 SuperTech. Athough Yamaha does not list 80W140, I am tempted to use it on my next gear oil change sometime this weekend. How long have you used the 80_140 on your bike so far?
  12. Yep, there is a possibility that synchro went out of spec. after the trip. It wouldn't hurt to re-synchto ensure all 4 are balanced. As mentioned before, I also have never experienced that kind of behavior from my Venture.
  13. Same here, I use the Valvoline brand.
  14. At the very least, get an idea what your battery voltage is....
  15. I meant just cover the ignition....
  16. Try to keep up with the speed and stay away from the idiot drivers out there. Just by observing how a driver move around traffic, we all can almost always spot which vehicle you need to stay away. If a vehicle wants to pass me, I let them pass as I maintain my cruising speed. Defensive driving is the key and keep in mind, we will never win against a cager so exercise extra caution. Ride Safe everyone.
  17. +1 on lubeing all moving points and use a lock and key lubrication on the ignition. Perhaps next time you wash your bike, cover with plastic to prevent water from entering.
  18. My worst fear too...I've seen my share on the road and I hope I donKt have to deal with them. This time of the year, I try to stay on the main roads ...Ride Safe. Glad to hear no significant damage to your bike and yourself.
  19. Glad you mentioned about the lining of your helmet. I need to do my own as well and take advantage since we expect rain off and on up to Thursday. :-(
  20. You believe and it shall happen. Prayers sent. Never forget the Sabbath Day.
  21. On my '07, I will get 38 mpg cruising the highway at speeds between 75-80 on the speedo. As we all know, 75 to 80 translates to between 70-75 mph corrected speed. Not bad IMO for gas mileage. Next time, I really want to try going just 65 mph and see what my numbers are in terms of gas mileage.
  22. I hate reading about this type of news and it saddens my heart. RIP Tammy and Allen.
  23. I can see why longer trips (above 50 miles) may yield higher mpgs. My rountrip commuteis about 50 miles and cruising speed of 70 to 75 mph. At those speeds, I will get between 36 to 39 mpg with better numbers during warmer weeks. If I only take the side roads, I probably may reach the low 40s. But....the highway cruise is much more fun for me for now. Ride safe.
  24. I pretty much stay on the high end of 70 for cruising speed. This summer, I plan to visit Ohio and clock in at least 500 miles for the day. After reading all the post here, it makes me want to ride more for long distances this season. Ride Safe everyone.
  25. I just inspected my brackets this morning and it showed little surface rust. As soon as I arrive from work, a nice coat of anti-rust may help a little. Thanks for this thread, this is something I'ce never really paid attention to.
