I'm with Bob. Really like the performance of my E3's on my 88VR. So far, almost 30k miles on the front and 25k miles on the back, including 8k last summer with two up hauling our trailer. Will replace the front soon due to some cupping.

I went back to Rotella from Amsoil, and I am a much happier biker!

Like my E3's on my 88 VR. They perform well and have taken me many miles, including 13,000 kms (about 8000 miles) with two up hauling my trailer last year. So far, I have 46,000 kms on the front (which I will change this year) and 38,000 kms on the rear.

Life mostly works out in mysterious ways and I'm sure glad you were not on your bike. So far, over almost 50 years of riding, I have been lucky, but hitting a deer on my bike is one of my fears.

Don has certainly captured my sincere feelings Brad and I couldn't express them better than he did.

750 mile weekend tuneup ride.

Your trip reminds me of a great experience down the Natchez Trace Trail and spending some time in Natchez which I thought was fabulous. Have a great ride! Also, I sure enjoyed the Arches area and found Zion amazing. Mentioned that to Dogman who went to Zion on his amazing ride and said he thought it was a major highlight of his trip. -
So glad for you that you are able to write about it now and so sad to see your scoot pictures. I can only imagine what a nightmare experience this was for you.

Just checked with two NAPA outlets here in Ontario. Apparently Seafoam is not on sale here in Ontario and its regular price is over $13.

I did the same with my 88VR. Still use the plastic CD player cover, but now it covers a spacious storage area. In my case, I use that area for a bunck of switches and to house my 12 volt plug that are all weather protected by the old CD player cover.

Battery fluid level bypass

It worked for me also with my 88VR and I wouldn't have know that without the advice from Marcarl and Wayne (Wizaed765). -
Fuseblock Upgrade Revisited
Evan replied to stanG's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Neat job with some good ideas for mounting the new fuse block that will come in handy when I tackle my own fuse block upgrade in the next week or so. -
I know some will laugh at me, but I decided to share pictures of my homemade hitch anyway because it is so simple and it works. For those who will think it may not be safe, I can only tell you that it can be removed and remounted very easily and my friend Mother borrowed it to carry a loaded cooler on his 86 VR on his extended trip to Alaska and throughout Western Canada and USA. I remounted on on my own 88 and hauled my trailer with it on our 13,000 km "Venture West". It has never shown any sign of stress or slippage and it has enough strength that I can stand on it. The first picture shows the hitch from behind - basically just a ball mounted on a flat plate. the second picture shows how the flat plate is attached to two bars which are each attached by 3 ubolts to the frame of saddlebag rack. (When I bought the bike, there were only 2 ubolts and I added the third).

This thread is also a good reminder of how quickly a year goes by. Must check my membership date for this great site.

Pretty good logic Dave - and even a bit poetic. Wish the political process did a better job in earning the people's respect.

Congratulations Dave (and Bernie), I think!

Sorry we missed you at the event and also at home Carl. We did look for you but based on one web site review I read, this event can attract a couple hundred thousand people and 50 thousand bikes - and it sure felt like that by mid afternoon. And the bikes and sights were amazing - from the blue trike (what do you think Bongobob) to the endless stop and go lineup heading into town to the rider without any safety gear (other than a small strategically located patch, as the pictures show). I am looking forward to seeing more pictures from Abdul, who had his camera.

This sounds great Abdul. Also talked to Dogman who must work. Will be out front at my place at 8:00 unless the plans get adjusted to accomodate others.

Thanks for posting this great article Brian. Interesting to me as my wife often says that she feels safer with me on the back of the VR than with me in our car.
-
Best of luck to you Gary. Hope this proves to be just a temporary detour for you which gives you the comfort that you did the right thing.

Another dumb question....sorry.
Evan replied to Bighappy's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
--- yes, and what works well for me is to use a pair of needle nose pliers on the boots to pop the plug wires. -
If it is the ignition switch (and that was my problem), there is a very good step by step writeup here on how to open and clean the switch. Dust and grime tends to accumulate inside the switch, causing the contact to fail.

Stainless Steel side cover group purchase
Evan replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Carl, been off the site for a while so just now seeing this. Guess I got lucky as my VR had these chrome covers on it when I bought it.
