Just back from 7200+ mile Western Road Trip!
Evan replied to maineventurerider's topic in Watering Hole
Thumbs up to you Ken. Great ride and great post. Sounds like you had a fabulous ride despite some heat, and for me, John Denver music really works. -
Abdul and I went to the Port Dover event in June and I'm sure this event will be even busier, so be prepared for BIG crowds. Can't join you as I am out of town. Abdul, sorry to hear your riding is being "curtailed" a bit.

On my way to Maintenance Day, my Froggtoggs jacket zipper went. Bought the rain suit over a year ago and didn't have my purchase receipt. Marcarl and a few others had a similar problem and suggested that I call customer service. A real person answered right away and a new rain suit with a much stronger zipper just arrived by mail - no hassle and no cost to me. Great customer service!

My wife claims that bad things happen in three's. By my count, you may have hit four during your bad day if you count the fish not biting. She also believes that after three bad things happening to you, you will be on a good things roll. Good luck today!

Been working and playing at the cottage where I can jump in the lake when I get overheated. Finally installed my Skydoc fuse block and cleaned up some accessory wiring on the bike. Took a break and jumped off "Whale Rock" with my grandson.

Help with trunk repair!!!
Evan replied to Max's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I understand this is a common problem. I patched my with Plastex and it held for about three years before it started to crack again. So, like a few that have already posted, I removed my back rest and put a light metal plate on the front of the trunk. No problem since them. It is a strong fix and cosmetically, you don't see the plate at all. -
Brad and Rhonda, hope the rest of the year makes up for everythong so far and you both enjoy your new home beyond your expectations!

We made that decision for our "Venture West" trip last summer. Decided to take the trailer. Most of our trip was spent off the main highways. On two occasions, we were able to leave the loaded trailer behind for day rides, including a day on the Going to the Sun road in Glacier Park. That sure felt liberating. However, if we were leaving tomorrow for another trip like yours, I would definitely use the trailer again. As far as we were concerned, the benefits far outweighed the hassle of having a trailer behind us.

Sounds like you may be in some pain for a while Brian so let your daughter look after you well. Glad you are able to connect with your fellow forum members who hurt in a different way when one of us goes down. Keep us posted and stay connected.

Tom, hope you have a great "Venture East". My wife and I did a 5 week "Venture West last year, going through Winnipeg heading west and through northern US heading back home. She wants to follow up with a trip like yours to the east coast, but it looks like that will have to wait until next summer. I suspect the region in North Dakota where they are busy developing oil and gas is a bit east of where you would be ride, but if not, I would sure try to avoid it. We considered the ferry crossing of Lake Michigan which you may want to check out (there are two options). We really enjoyed some riding areas along our route and you can what we enjoyed between Winnipeg and Toronto in my wife's blog http://venturewest-evan-anne.blogspot.ca/. We are a friendly bunch of Venture Riders here in Ontario so for sure, keep us posted.

I posted a tip on this a few years ago explaining how I use the pump for pumping gear oil into the lower end of my marine motors. It works like a charm and by pumping through a clear plastic hose from the bottom, you can see any bubbles and pump out any air bubbles in the clutch line.

I've been carrying a new gas filter with me for a couple years now, but haven't installed it yet cause I was told that access was a hassle as you have to remove much stiff. From Dave's helpful pictures, it looks like access only requires the removal of the side cover. Is that the case?

We did a lot of hot day riding on our VentureWest last summer and found the neck wrap that you soak in water before wearing to be amazing for its cooling effect. They claim it stays wet and helps keep you cool for two days after being soaked but we found that soaking it every morning worked well, and it really did feel cool all day long. Bought one at CAA (AAA in the US) and the other at Tilly Endurables.

Think you are getting some good advice from your "family" Bob. Take care of yourself and don't rush your recovery. I'll add to give Becky a big hug! -

Bob, a good measure of a man is his friends and you can see from these many responses to Tom's post that you are a very good man who is blessed with many friends. Prayers for a good recovery. -
Steve - I use the rectangular ones, about 1" by 2" in size. I locate them at the top of my oem mirrors. Works like a charm and leaves me with the full range of visibility.
