    R.I.P.

Phil - A few years back, my father described to me what some call an "out of body" death experience, which, like others that I have head about, was quite euphoric. I hope your brother was able to have such an experience. Anyway, I am sorry for your loss and I hope you have some good memories to help you now.
  2. Looking forward to seeing your posted pictures Ben. Have a great trip!!
  3. I will offer a slightly different perspective. On more than one occasion, the enjoyment of a good ride with fellow bikers has been wiped out by someone ahead of me with extra loud pipes. I think riders following behind someone with extra loud pipes are subjected to more noise than the biker with the loud pipes.
  4. Still quite warm, into the 40's here in Toronto. Plan on riding tomorrow, as it calls for rain today!.

    A story:

Just a few days ago, I listened to a person made the point about how important and necessary it is to find ways to teach and help kids "learn" the joy of giving, especially at Christmas, when the overwhelming focus these days is for kids to think about recieving. Been thinking about how I might make this point with our two young grandkids who will soon be spending a night with us. We always enjoy bedtime reading with them and I am saving this special story for them.
  6. Looks like your buddy has good taste!
  7. --- now, just figure out a way to haul Scamper, along with your travel trailer, and you've got it made in your retirement Carl.
  8. Don't know how you did this Don but thanks for the amazing collection of pics and info for this new BMW scooter.
  9. Thanks Bob for this post and to Tom and Amy, I sure hope you both fully recover real soon.
  10. I am sure many of you will laugh at me but here it goes. The day is coming, although hopefully not for several years, when it will be just too much for me to get my leg over my 1st gen Venture and it will be just too heavy for me to handle it safely. I'm sure not looking forward to that day as I like my VR as much or more than any of the bikes I have owned over the last 49 years. Well, at the Toronto Bike show this past weekend, I saw a new model BMW that I think will allow me to keep on riding and enjoying it. Here it is:http://www.totalmotorcycle.com/motorcycles/2012models/2012-BMW-C650GTc.jpg Yes, its a scooter that BMW calls a C650GT which has all the features that I think will make it an extremely comfortable two up touring machine. The only limitation that I can see is that it may not allow me to pull a trailer. Has anyone here seen one of these on the road or rode one? Here in Ontario, I know BMW will feature this model at their demo day this spring.
  11. Qwite a storey you "Grandchild Wrangler". Like others, Iit is good to know you are coming out of this one OK. Also, good luck with your new acquisition
  12. Congratulations to you Mike on your change to a more healthy and positive lifestyle. Sure hope you achieve your goal of riding many more years and enjoy it.
  13. What a great thread - thanks to your contest Don. I sure can't compete with the many fabulous Christmas stories that have been posted but I will say that for me, my Christmas memories over the years (rekindled from many of the posts) focus around family. I think that has been a result of my many good memories when I was young thanks to my parents and grandparents and it is something I have tried to continue with my own kids and grandkids.
  14. On our "VentureWest" trip last year, I found a garage near our hotel and asked if I could have an empty oil jug. I cut a hole in its side and drained my oil into that empty jug. Then I used the spout of that jug to pour the oil from my oil change into the jug I had just emptied from the oil change. Did all this in the hotel parking lot. The bonus was that the garage offered to take my jug of used oil for its disposal. Wasn't much hassle and I sure felt better running with fresh oil for the rest of our trip.
  15. This video makes the point pretty good, Dave.
  16. Amazing video Wayne. Thanks for posting it!
  17. Hey Paul. Hope you feel better and can get back on the road real quick. It is good that you are a member of a site like this where you feel comfortable in posting about your bad experience and other members care about your recovery and helping you out. Let us know how things go.
  18. Congratulations Kenny, and it is good to hear a posative insurance story.
  19. Sounds like a fabulous trip Kevin. Last year I got a map of New York State from AAA. It is a pretty good map (the scale is 11 miles/inch) that show a bunch of additional info of interest such as campgrounds, rest area facilities, and scenic routes and it is available free to AAA members. If you have no luck elsewhere, I could mail my map to you.
  20. Wayne, my sagging problem is more with my front end these days. Oops, I forgot, no sex or politics here, so I guess I should clarify - while my compressor is working just fine, my front suspension is not holding air and even with Carl's help, we were not able to locate the leak.
  21. Fair point Grump!
  22. Looking forward to seeing you and Alan again Annie.
  23. This thread reminds me think of one that I posted a coupdle of years ago when I reported on a foam slip on grip cover that I found. Just in case others are interested, the link to my original post follows. What I can add today is that after two years of wear and tear, these slip on grip covers, which I installed in just a few minutes withouut any glue, still look as good as new and I don't think most people could tell that they are not the original grips. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=50436
  24. Same here!
