    newb question

Welcome. You are getting good advice. Not sure my info is as good but it is based on my experience. If your compressor is pooched, you can easily add some lines with Schroeder valves to add air manually, BUT if you do that, use a small hand pump as you can easily overdo the air pressure. My 88 had that done to it. Like others say, there are some common problems so it is usually not the compressor itself. I was able to repair mine with some soldering, thanks to the great advice from this forum.
  2. Don't see the schematic in your post. My 21 led iight bar says it is for brakes and tail only, and is a three wire bar. I have assumed that it is not possible to also wire for signals, but is it?.
  3. Bugs are a concern to me also as I knew a person who killed himself when a bee got inside his helmet while riding. Caused him to run into a telephone poll.
  4. Good luck Wayne!! Glad all this happened before your up coming trip east.
  5. Just acquired a second one, which is currently parked in Swifty's living room. Don't know yet whether it or my other 88VR will be my 1st ride. Put a lot of miles on the 88 and it just keeps on running.
  6. Had my 88 about 5 years now. Sure like it. In fact, I like it so much that I recently bought a second one, which is an 86. Enjoy yours, it is a good looking ride.
  7. Bill, you have certainly come to an outstanding forum - good info and good people from virtually every state and province, plus a few other countries. Hope you enjoy your new ride!
  8. Yes, I decided to replace mine recently and new ones were still available from Yamaha. I also replaced the rubber grommets that hold the side panels in place. Also, to eliminate the chance of loosing the rubber bands, I secured them in place with some small plastic ties.
  9. Better late than never, especially if it is best wishes for a 65th birthday for a guy that has helped out quite a few of us. Also want to include a picture that proves it is never too late to try new adventures, even of no motors are involved.
  10. My sincere sympathy. Think your wife deserves a hug for her offer.
  11. Would like to join you but can't. Have a good ride.
  12. Gotta watch those cows. Hope your riding was enough to put a smile on your face Phil. Its nice country there.
  13. Right on Margaret!
  14. Good luck Jack. Sounds like there you may be adding another bike to your stable.

    Hal

Would like very much to make this "special event" for Hal but will be away. At 50, Hal's not getting older as much as he is getting better. What a scary thought!
  16. Good for you guys. Enjoy and safe riding!
  17. Let me add a big welcome to the site and my own experience. In my case, I had owned bikes and been riding for about 45 years when I decided to look for a more comfortable bike for my wife, who was not interested in riding herself but a great passenger. I recalled a friend owning a 1st gen VR many years ago so I decided to look for one. That led to me finding this forum as well as the 88VR that I bought about 5 years ago. Hands down I like the Venture better than any other bike I have owned over the years. But even more important in my mind is the information and support and friendships made through the forum. With all that, I have been able to learn about and do all the typical maintenance such as head bearings, diaphragms etc and like most VR others, I would not hesitate to go long distance touring. In fact, we have now toured coast to coast and these bikes are good for huge miles.
  18. Good pictures again Dave, but tell us, how well did it work for you and Bernie?

    Venture East

Well, we finally (last Wednesday) completed the final leg of our venture East after an extended stopover near Callendar on Lake Nipissing and my wife has completed her blog of the trip at http://www.ventureeast2013.blogspot.com. Similar to our Venture West experience, we returned as even prouder Canadians after experiencing first hand the beauty and diversity and friendliness of our country. We thoroughly enjoyed our time travelling through OH, PA, NYS, VT, NH and Maine as well. For us, travelling off the main highways with the attitude of exploring and enjoying each day rather than having a daily destination leaves us with so many good memories which are a pleasure to share.
  20. In a somewhat lighter vein, glad to share with you what my good riding buddy from England (he rides a Guzi) said to my wife when her bum was getting sore on our recent venture East ride: "Cure for the dreaded Num Bum disease. Hot bath and baby oil (external) in that order, followed by a chilled white wine (taken internally) repeat often until feeling returns."
  21. Enjoy. Great picture of the huge swinging chair.
  22. Yup. That's what makes this group so special.
  23. --- self propelled this time, without a motor. Plus a moment of reflection on Canada Day!
  24. Wayne said it. I'll second it.
