  1. Well how do I say this, due to being off work for the last 6 months we decided to sell the bike and trailer and buy a Exmark zero turn to pick up a little work untill a full time position can be found. I'm not going anywhere and will stay on the forum because you cannot disregard sooo many true friends found here. I'm not looking for any handouts this is a decision that was made to move foreward. I am a biker at heart and will have something to ride before you know it. I would however accept prayers for finding a full time position. Gary less the 99 silver
  2. I have recently put a lot of money into this bike; new needles and seats, diaphrams from sirius, progressive springs, had the tci resoldered and new diodes put in and had my seat redone by Rick ( which turned out great by the way). Was still running crappy. Rechecked the compression that I thought was good. Not so good. 3 cylinders were in the 120's and the back right was 100. Long story longer there is some blackening in that cyclinder and my mechanic thinks its either a bad ring or bad spring on the valves. 11 hour job. Now I either rebiuld or get a decent used motor with good compression. Or sell for what I can with the new owner knowing what he is in for. With all the info that has been compiled on this site I am considering trying to fix this thing myself if the cost is reasonable, even though I have never pulled a motor before. Also wondering what the cost would be to do this, rebuild or used motor. Any imput would help my decision. Thanks Doug
  3. Geesh, last summer it was one clocked at 142 MPH. Last fall it was one at 148 MPH. The other day the record was broken again. 158 MPH on a four lane road and Interstate. The only thing not running WOT is the brain. OMAHA, Neb. -- Jonathan Goodburn, 20, faces numerous charges after being clocked going 158 mph and leading police on a high-speed chase on his motorcycle. Now Goodburn and his family regret his split-second decision. Nebraska State Patrol troopers spotted Goodburn with a group of about 20 other motorcyclists driving at a high rate of speed near 156th Street and West Dodge Road Saturday night. Authorities eventually arrested him along Highway 36 near Cunningham Lake. Goodburn's mother, Chris Goodburn, admits her son made a major mistake by taking off and not stopping for police. "Once he got in far enough that he was already running, he was trying to figure out when he should stop," she said. Capt. Bret Friesz with the Nebraska State Patrol said the chase lasted 24 minutes and traveled 32 miles. Goodburn was clocked at 158 mph at one point. "It was probably a one-minute bad decision that drug out over 24 minutes," said Friesz. Goodburn called his mother from jail while KETV NewsWatch 7 was interviewing her Monday. "He says he's sorry that he put other people's lives in danger," said Chris Goodburn. She said the split-second decision cost her son his job. He was expected to be in court on Tuesday. Goodburn told his mother that he's learned his lesson. "His lesson that he'd want to share with everybody is don't do it, it's not worth it," said Chris Goodburn. 4. So it was about 65 degrees today and work midnight shift tonight...so that means I was up and around during the day...Had to make a decision...go for a ride or spend a couple of hours washing and waxing it up for winter storage...I decided to go for the wash and wax since I didn't know how many more days like today I'd have...of course when I was done I sure wished I had time to go for a ride...now I don't know if I made the right decision! But she DOES look pretty now!
  5. Moto 400, which is a fairly large motorcycle dealership in Dawsonville GA (and which we've visited a couple of times during our North GA M&Es), has just announced that it is dropping both its' Yamaha and Triumph lines and is converting completely and exclusively to a pre-owned sales model. They indicate in their newsletter that the cost of maintaining new inventory, coupled with decreased demand and financing constraints has led them to this far-reaching business decision. This is a great location with a great staff, so it's not like they didn't take care of their Customers. I, for one, wish them well as they move forward... Habib the Supportive
  6. I just got through reading the reviews in Motorcycle Cruiser magazine and wondered what some of the actual "Venture Riders" say about some of the criticisms in the article. This is not necessarily one of my favorite mags...I feel they always give the Harleys and Hondas a "bye" on their models, but it seems they are particularly harsh on the Venture this time. I am still interested in getting the Venture, my decision will be in the next 30 days, however I would be lying if I said I wasn't at least a little disheartened by the article. Here is a link to the reviews: http://www.motorcyclecruiser.com/roadtests/0912_crup_harley_davidson_electra_glide_kawasaki_vulcan_star_royal_star_victory_vision/index.html Thanks, Wally
  7. and without mentioning any names.......you will know who u are.......thank you for talking with me tonight and helping me to better understand things. I cried after we hung up, not sure why but it released a lot of stress. You helped more than u know and in the end it has made me feel better about our decision as to what to do. I really think i can be at peace about it now. maybe ill send u a pretty thong to add to your collection to show my appreciation...
  8. Hi Guys I haven't had the need yet, but I would like to know if there are significant risks with jumping my Venture with either a portable power supply unit, or from a passenger vehicle. If I happened to be out in the middle of nowhere and I was stuck with a dead battery, would it be okay to jump my bike's battery with anything besides besides another motorcycle? Or, could the potential consequences from such an attempt, make it not even worth taking the risk? I figure that it would be best to find out these answers before I need to make a decision. Once again, the state of my battery right now is just fine, and I haven't had any problems with it. It's currently hooked-up to a Battery-Tender and the bike is parked in a closed garage. I just want to know about this just in case I am faced with the need to make a decision sometime in the future. Thanks & Be Warm! Pete.
  9. Me and the wife went on a 250 mile lunch run today. We wanted Texas Roadhouse badly but the one in Orange Park is usually crowded. We took 90 all the way to Lake City where TRH is rarely packed and we had a great lunch. Getting back up on 75 then I-10, we were running about 80. As I hit Jax and got on I 295, I felt fatigued. So did Jean and she was complaining about a headache. It hit us that the Road King mufflers, which are drilled out, was invading my space and seemed louder than ever. Now, I love the way they sound in local driving, but at highway speeds, it is now grating on me. So, I just might have to go back and install the stock mufflers for long highway trips. And you thought you had tough decision to make in your life, huh?
  10. I have just about decided part of the problems that I'm having with my ride is the battery. It is 5 years old and I'm going to replace it. Decision? There are several types from gel to AGM to normal batteries. Any thoughts?
