  1. On my 87 the # is on the key
  2. So if the 2 gen is so great why have some of you bought goldwings:stirthepot: i sold my old wing to get my 1st gen because the wing sucks to work on. I also rode a 2nd gen and didn't like it. i will stay with my 1st gen. just my worth.
  3. I have e3s on front and rear for about 4000 miles now and i like them alot . It took about 150 miles to get them broke in, at first it handled a little weard but after the break in it handles great. i always ride with two guys that ride a 08 fjr and a 06 kaw. concorse that i have to keep up with and i do like the e3s in the corners and straights. I run 40 in the rear and 38 in the front. with 4000 on the tires they look just like they did when they were new.
  4. On mine the kit comes with a plug and o ring you screw into that hole . i bought a cd that shows how to build a vmax motor and at the end of the build it shows the install of the oil gauge.
  5. gary go to cycleoneoff.com click on vmax link oil gauge kits the one i got for my 1st gen was #014vmaxgk for $45.00 +tax
  6. gary when i did the brake mod i had the same problem bleedind ,it would do the same as you have , it felt like it was working but not a firm lever. i then tied the lever back over night and the next day i had a firmer lever and reblead the front brakes and all is good now:dancefool:
  7. I just got rid of that wobble myself changed wheel bearings and steering head bearings and wobble is gone. wheel bearings had some play in them and steering head bearings had play also. now i have had bike up to 120 and no more wobble. my bike has 43000 miles on it so change both sets of bearings and you should be good.
  8. Hey allen i had that same sidestand problem a few weeks ago and like said i just cleaned mine and all is good . also have fun at work , wait if it was fun they wouldn't call it work:rotf:
  9. rubber qroments #sku 90480-13398-00 are listed at $1.59 at yamahapartsnation.com the side louvers are still listed but at $129 &131 too much money for me i got mine off ebay. yamahapartsnation.com go to there site inter your bike info for all parts for your bike:thumbsup:
  10. Go to goallballs.com that is where i bought mine , stearing head bearing kit comes with both seals and bearings for $33.54
  11. i agree with squidley you can replace the springs and clean and sand the steel plates with 1000 grit wet dry paper. when i replaced my clutch with barnett fiber dics and pressure plate my old friction dics looked and were in spec. but since i had the new ones i just replaced it.
  12. here is one at rickselectric.com for the 1st. gen it isn't listed but i called and they gave me a part #21-405h for a high output stator for $160.00 phone # 1-800-521-0277 they claim it puts out 20% more power than the stock one. the one at buckeye performance states it puts out 25% more for $230.00 + so you have two to pick from.
  13. here ya go 18011 westlawn st. hesperia,ca. 92345 760-948-1346 email markpipe@neto.net
  14. I don't know about on a 2 gen but on my 1st gen i got 13,500 miles on the first set i had on and still had a little tread left on them (not much but no cords showing) liked them so much i have my second set on now . My bike had avons on when i bought it about 50% tread and the E3s feel better in the rain and grip good on dry ground. And quest what they didn't crack like the avons.
  15. Hi Dell i just had Dano's starter clutch mod done and installed about 2 weeks ago and it works great . like dano and squeeze said it will be the last time you will ever do this again. Now when i hit the starter button it starts before you get your thumb off the button.
  16. The only one that works for me was the last link that has ended the rest just took me to the home page.
  17. looks good here is a picture before and after, 21 parts to paint takes awhile but you know about that after doing yours a few times.
  18. like squeeze said this has worked for me in the past with most of the ones i had trouble with.
  19. snaggletooth looks good, great job on the lights. superbright is only 5 miles from my house. pass by it going to work. also got dano's starter clutch mod installed and your right it starts before you get your thumb off the start button. But back to the lights ,i will be looking into doing this later this year but for now the suns out and i need to ride. once again great job but i think you need more lights ,you can't let condor out do you on the lights are ya:stirthepot: Ed.
  20. Yes joe it will work the last 5 # on the part list are the same , you can use the spring plate from a vmax also so this could give more time to ride for the cost of a gasget.
  21. going by the parts listing for this bike there is only one spring plate for his bike and it lists for $45.00 not counting the gasget. Of course this only applys to a stock setup, that is why skydoc's clutch upgrade is a good deal because you get a new stronger spring plate , a friction plate to get rid of the junk dampner plate and the gasget for $67.00 shipped to you
  22. skydoc has what you need in the second gen parts in the classified sec. under clutch upgrade for $67.00 easy to do yourself. most times the clutch dics are still good the spring plate is what goes on these bikes.
  23. No there should be no play in the rear or front wheels. yes yamaha still sells wheel bearings but are high on there prices, i bought some for the front from allballs.com a lot cheeper. i think they sell most of the bearings except the cylinder one for the rear , but i could be wrong on that. even if they don't just get that one from yamahapartsnation.com they are one of the cheepest when it comes to oem parts. Go to the top of the home page click on search tab inter rear wheel removal then click go and you will see a lot of posts click on some of them to find the one you need . there will be more than one just check them out you will find what you need. good luck with it it's not that bad of a job. Ed.
  24. yes i want a set for a 1st gen , no i have to have a set. see what you started , more work for you and more money spent by us for more bling. keep us informed:clap2:
  25. well Snaggletooth i have to say yes it has been worth the money. when i first bought it i payed 2700.00 and the bike had 15,000 miles an was in pretty good shape . the 1st owner sold it because his wife would not let him keep it after getting a new gold wing. since then i have spent around 1500.00 doing different mods. like clutch, r6 brake mod , new paint, and lets not forget dano's rotor and starter clutch mod. ( whitch will be here mon. or tues.) I have owned 34 different bikes so far and this 87 VR is by far the one i have liked the most. and to awnser a ? you asked what size impack gun i used to removed the rotor it was a old 1/2 inch black & decker i bought in 1974 and the hammer was a small ballpen ,i must just be luckey after what you had to go thru to remove yours. the pic with me on it is what it looked like when i first got it and the other after i painted it. since i painted it i have replaced the seat and back rest , arm pad with black ones. this bike will always have a home here i will maybe get another bike in the future but i will not sell this one . it now has 42,783
