i'm getting ready to install solid mounts in my 87 vr a need to know what needs to be removed to do this. i have read the post on how to wiggel the mounts in just need to know what to do to get to that point. i asume the air box, battery and battery box, does the radiator need to be removed. need the info so i dont get something wrong.

I just replaced the clutch on my 87 with a barnett clutch , it was around 130.00 for the friction plates. If your metal plates are ok and don't have burn marks on them you would be good to go. Check the 1st. gen tech section , there is a barnett clutch install post that tells all you need to know. pretty easy to do.

last year on Nov. 2 we left St. Louis going to Jasper Arkansas it was 20 dregees when we left at 6 am. when we got to our first gas stop everyone was saying how cold they were and they asked me how come i was not saying that i was cold ,i showed them the cord going from my heated gear to the bike. They said that i was a sissy and i told them that i was just smarter than they were. :rotf:Funny thing is when we got back most of them bought heated gear. leaving St. Louis going to jasper again this friday.

Lubricating throttle cables
capn eddie replied to BJB's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I use a product called Dri Slide multi-purpose lubricant, it is a molybdenum disulfide in a a alcohol base. It comes in a bottle with a thin metal needle that you use to stick in the top of the cables and when it comes out the other end you let it dry. I have used this for many years and it wokks great. you can get it at most cycle shops:cool10:- 4 replies

Just a thought did you check the new plugs to see if they might be fouled out since you did the sync. job:detective: -
A while back someone asked if you could tow a bike with another bike, and yes you can. Last tuesday going down hwy 270 in mo. i seen a bike towing another one with a one bike trailer at about 60 mph. Looked like he had no problems doing it , this is the only time i have seen this done, who ever thought this was possible, not me until then. well that's all i have to say. So who ever posted the question can a bike be towed with another one yes you can.

losing brakes
capn eddie replied to Dexx's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
I had the same thing when i first got my bike , bleed the brakes had good pedal go for a ride park it overnight and pedal goe's down. :confused24:The problem is there is still air in the system, belive me i know. :whistling:Put bike on side stand, get some speed bleeders and bleed it again do the back first then the front left with the forks turned to the right( gets bleeder to a high point) and then bleed the metering valve. There is alot of air traped in the valve so you will have to bleed this alot. Took me two times to get the air out. Now my pedal is hard all the time. Just about drove me crazy the first time i bleed mine and the next day it had no pedal. Speed bleeders is the way to go when bleeding the brakes, you can do it by yourself , get the bleeder bag also makes for a easy job. Good luck and if it doesnt work the first time let it sit overnight and do it again the next day. Worked for me. PS www.speedbleeder.com Took about a quart and a half of brake fluid. bleeder # sb8125l -
looks like a car tire on it, and that thing looks like an accident waiting to happen. not cool.

Fork Brace List
capn eddie replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Thank's Condor got my brace today around 9 am so im told . i went to jefferson city,mo. this morning with the Mo. VTX riders for there meet and greet. Left around 7am and got back at 5:30 pm. around 300 miles today with no rain until about 30 miles from home it rained. But thats ok cause it was a good test for the Rain coat that i had on the windshield , it works great. again thank"s for everything you did for all of us. I will install my brace sunday and go test it out then. -
Greg my bike is a XVZ13DS ID# JYA1NL007, i don't know jet sizes, what ever is stock for this year. Just had carbs adjusted and synchronization done about three months ago by donelson cycles . Also had valves set at same time. I do the sea foam thing about every two months. Bike only has 33000 miles on it , bought it in sept. 07 with 26000 on it and everything was working on it. Sorry i don't have more info for you but i haven't had to do much to it. I did gut the collector and put jardine pipes on it , other than that it's stock. Just remembered k&n air filter also. Ed.

My 87 VR gets 40 to 44 miles per gal. if i stay around 65 mph, last week while riding with my friend and his girl friend (who just started riding) at 55 to 60 mph i got 48 mpg. But when riding with the VTX riders at speeds of 80 to 90 mph i get around 30 to 36 mpg. :confused24:It all depends on how much you twist the gas. Just can't seem to let them get past me with out twisting the gas.
-
I agree with wizard if you don't have anything good to say on this topic to help someone then don't say anything. These people are looking for help ,not negitave feedback. I also belong to the VTX riders and a lot of them run car tires. One of my friends runs one on his 1800 and has 75,000 on his bike with a car tire and you can't keep up with him in the twistys . each to his own P S can't we all get along.

Fork Brace List
capn eddie replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Glad to here the good news, can't wait till it gets here. good thing i sighed up at #9 on the list,:whistling:because i am tired of the wobble. between the brace and the solid mounts i ordered that wobble will be no more. again thanks for your time doing this for us. Ed -
why is it that the 2nd Gen guys are going to the wing thing , 2nd Gens too slow? :stirthepot:I sold my wing to get my 87 VR that i like much better and it's faster too. The new wings look like a car but only with two wheels. Just kidding guys, each to there own, wings are ok just not for me . The bars are too close for me, felt like they were in my chest. Anyway go for it and enjoy the new ride. Ed.
