  1. Shipped my Road Glide seat off to Rick Butler this morning. I have put some miles on it and was pleasantly surprised with it for a stock seat. I've done a Saddle Sore and a Bun Burner on it so I know that I can do a thousand mile day on it with no major problems. There is still room for improvement though so I figured that with the snow on the ground, it was a great time to let him work his magic.
  2. I've been looking at the various fuse block threads on here and have noted the occasional reference to clearance issues. Most of the replacement ATC fuse blocks I have found so far are between 1.3" and 1.5". Has anyone actually figured out how much room there is between the battery and the top cover?
  3. I figured you would be pretty much parked for the winter but then saw this picture so I guess you are on the road again.
  4. I ordered and received a Carbtune and Colortune this week. I was very impressed with the personal service used on my order. I have no problems with setting up and using the Carbtune. However, I haven't figured out how to install and read the front two cylinders with the Colortune. I have managed to get the plug in and hook up the lead, but I can't get a visual on the glass to see the flame color. The adapter with the mirror is too long to set up without removing the tank. Is there a trick that I haven't figured out yet? I just want to know what method everyone else is using.
  5. Check this out Haagen Daz has an ice cream moon. I don't know where you can get it, but I figured with this group I should share the info I saw. http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/technology-blog/moon-shaped-ice-cream-insanely-cool-impossible-eat-205857237.html Margaret
  6. Playin' catchup on my 87 Standard....it's been going on for a couple of weeks now, (not much free time to work on it) and I'm getting ready to sync the carbs, but was hoping for some info on the procedure. I figured there'd be an old post with instructions but can't seem to find it. If anyone has a link, or can give me the quick and dirty on it, lemme know. Thanks.
  7. well i learned you should avoid bady shops like the plague because if you are pulling into one you probably cant drive in the first place. well 2 and a half months ago i was driving by one near my home when i noticed a truck stop in the oncoming lane with his blinker on i figured since he stopped he saw me. then as i was about to pass he decided to turn i locked up my R1 and managed to slow just enough to slam into the rear of his truck shattering the front of my bike and breaking my wrist
  8. Can someone with a Corbin seat/backrest talk me through how to adjust the backrest fore/aft setting? I bought my RSV with the seat on and haven't figured it out just yet. Thanks in advance, Iz
  9. Does anyone have an idea of who's riding from the west..past Illinois to the Rally.I figured it would be nice to ride as a small group.
  10. No, I didn't drop it or break it in any way! Caution: Long Bonehead Post Traded in the Roadstar and picked up my new (to me) 2002 Venture today. I went over the bike with the salesman and thought I had it figured out pretty well. Just getting out of town and an unfamiliar green light came on (on the left side of the dash). Bright day and me without my reading glasses interpreted this as an oil light !!! (Started with "O" and had two more letters/characters) Went back to the sales guy and told him the oil light was coming on intermittantly. We checked the oil level (OK) so he agreed to replace the oil level sensor (Had to be that, right?). By the time I left town again and rode another few miles, I began to see a pattern of when the light would come on - always in fifth. D'oh - Overdrive light!!! Embarrasing to have to email the guy when I got home a couple of hours later and tell him he could cancel the order for the part - especially since he had agreed to fix it on their nickel! To make things even better, after my first return to the shop when I first discovered the "oil light" problem, I decided to try out the radio and listen to some music for the ride home. Figured out how to turn it on and found a station. Worked Ok for a few minutes and then I started getting intermittant loud static. WTF!! First an oil light sending unit and now a screwed up radio. (I hadn't figured out the O/D thing yet) I was a little pissed and returned to the sales guy and told him about the radio. This guy was great but (like me) was not intimately familiar with the Venture. He agreed that something was screwey and said that they would replace the unit inside the fairing!! The parts were ordered (oil sensor and parts for the radio). As I said, these guys are great when it comes to customer satisfaction and service!! By the time I got home, I had figured out the oil light thing and sent an email with my apologies and told him not to bother ordering the part. Started thinking about the radio... Seemed like it might have been an intermittant grounding issue so I started playing with it after I got home; checking antenna grounds and wiggling the wire from the control unit. I could neither induce the static noise nor stop it by any action, including giving the fairing a gentle thump. Sounded like radio interference...??? Funny thing - I never had a bike with a CB system on it but after I thought about it for awhile, I began to wonder what would happen if a CB transmission came in over the radio station. (was thinking there may have been a fault so there was some cross-talk) D'oh again!! Just realized that in my attempt to get the system operating and tuned while riding, I had managed to turn on the CB (hadn't realized it could run at the same time as the rest of the audio)! Next step was to RTFM (Read The F***ing Manual). Next step after that was to send the sales guy another apologetic email explaining that he really didn't have to order the radio parts, either!! In my defence, I doubt that anyone on earth could figure out the Venture audio system without at least a sneak peek at the manual. This brings me to a question... The bike did not come with an owner's manual. I figured out the radio thing with some help from a downloaded manual (from a link posted on this site). The PDF of the owner's manual is not printable. Does anybody have a link to a version that has printable pages? My only other "issue" is the clutch "ring/whistle/chirp". I will look into it a bit before I make any further complaints. Three major embarrassments in one day would be just too many. Unfortunately, I understand that this is a "known" issue and it is something I will likely have to live with (or pay a lot of money to fix). Maybe the sales guy will fix/replace the clutch for free since it didn't cost him anything for the oil light and audio?? (maybe not) G'night Ross
  11. Lost my clutch shifting into third yesterday got lucky and road it home in second ( about 2 miles) I beleive it' the SLAVE CYLINDER only becuse I can't find any leaks all lines seem good . I is there any where on this site that has Pictures so that I know what to look for when I pull the cylinder It's only $20 for spring and new seals so I figured I would do that first and go from there I did bleed it but got just enough clutch to get into neutral so I could push it into garage. ANY advice comments etc... would be greatly appreciated. Oh 1999 Venture and it was going bad the other day and I bled it and got about 150 miles and this happened.
  12. I ran across a guy while looking for exhaust help on my Roadglide. I had a unique setup and had a baffle question. Anyway this guy helped me out in a big way. While talking I mentioned that I had a Rstd and that the Yammie guys are always looking for slip ons of one sort or another. I asked him if he could design a baffle set that would fit the stock mufflers. He said he thought he could, and of course he wondered how much interest there would be. I figured that there may be quite a bit. So I thought I'd throw this out there to see if there is any interest. Rather than give his name out or have a business come on here and solicit, I figured this would be the best way to find out. Might be a help to the Yammie in the aftermarket business.....
  13. just had a couple questions thought maybe someone can help me out.. is there any way to eliminate the kilometers on the speedo on my 05 venture.. not really an issue but just wondering.. secondly, quiet often the radio will loose signal and have an "rx" on the display.. kind of figured it was just loosing signal but this weekend we plugged in the ipod and it did the same thing.. thank you for the advice..
  14. Anybody use these on their 1st gens? How do/did you like them? Pros? cons? I'm gonna be needing some new pads soon and was just thinking about all the different kinds that are available and thought maybe these would be a nice upgrade from the OEM/organics or even maybe the semi metallic pads. Sooner or later I plan on doing the SS brake line upgrade, but until then I figured better pads would do. I really have no problem with the brake system as it is now, but any improvement would be a good thing. Bill
  15. Well the trailer for Annie and Allen to use is sitting at Dano's and I thought the weather should be getting better to start moving it again. I talked to Marilla (Vicco on the site) and she said the trailer could stay at their place in OR. They live about 2 hrs south of Portland. Figured it might be better to keep it somewhere in the family till they get here. So if we can start thinking of who can move it closer it would be greatly appreciated. With this group I know we can make this happen. We've moved stuff before. Thanks Margaret
  16. I had bought a new helmet last fall and had it sitting on the bucket rack all winter. A friend and co-worker had seen it and asked me if I wanted my name on it. Sure, why not. Go for it. I knew he had done some pin stripeing and figured how much harm could he do. Oh, scratch that......dumb question. Dark thoughts there. But he came wandering in to work today carrying my helmet bag and grinning ear to ear. That was good to see 'cause I figured if he screwed it up he would be hiding from me. LOL! But I was more than a little surprised when I unzipped the bag and saw what he had done. Dang! Way past putting my name on it!!! Damn nice job in my eyes and he wouldn't take a dime for it. Pretty decent guy for all the razzing I give him about his bike. A Harley. Seems his hands quit shaking once he turns the bike off. Maybe I need to cut him some slack about his bike. Nah... no fun in that. I guess I'll have to force feed him a big ol' steak next time we ride out. A salute to "The Piper". Thanks my friend. The light in here wasn't the best today so the pics suffered a bit. Mike
  17. http://www.cnn.com/2011/CRIME/04/17/tennessee.missing.woman/index.html?eref=mrss_igoogle_cnn Hope this link works. Just figured with as many members as we have here that someone may be able to help out. Shaun
  18. Anyone know how to edit a classified ad? Never mind, I finally figured it out and got it fixed!
  19. I rock!! We have high winds and freezing rain. Figured it was a good day to stay home.
  20. When girls don't put out!! This was written by a guy...very funny! I never quite figured out why the sexual urge of men and women differ so much. And I never have figured out the whole Venus and Mars thing. I have never figured out why men think with their head and women with their heart. FOR EXAMPLE: One evening last week, my girlfriend and I were getting into bed. Well, the passion starts to heat up, and she eventually says, 'I don't feel like it, I just want you to hold me.' I said, 'WHAT??!! What was that?!' So she says the words that every boyfriend on the planet dreads to hear... 'You're just not in touch with my emotional needs as a woman enough for me to satisfy your physical needs as a man.' She responded to my puzzled look by saying, 'Can't you just love me for who I am and not what I do for you in the bedroom?' Realizing that nothing was going to happen that night, I went to sleep.. The very next day I opted to take the day off of work to spend time with her. We went out to a nice lunch and then went shopping at a big, big unnamed department store. I walked around with her while she tried on several different very expensive outfits. She couldn't decide which one to take, so I told her we'd just buy them all. She wanted new shoes to compliment her new clothes, so I said, 'Lets get a pair for each outfit.' We went on to the jewellery department where she picked out a pair of diamond earrings. Let me tell you... She was so excited. She must have thought I was one wave short of a shipwreck. I started to think she was testing me because she asked for a tennis bracelet when she doesn't even know how to play tennis. I think I threw her for a loop when I said, 'That's fine, honey.' She was almost nearing sexual satisfaction from all of the excitement. Smiling with excited anticipation, she finally said, 'I think this is all Dear, let's go to the cashier.' I could hardly contain myself when I blurted out, 'No honey, I don't feel like it.' Her face just went completely blank as her jaw dropped with a baffled, 'WHAT?' I then said, 'Honey! I just want you to HOLD this stuff for a while. You're just not in touch with my financial needs as a man enough for me to satisfy your shopping needs as a woman.' And just when she had this look like she was going to kill me, I added, 'Why can't you just love me for who I am and not for the things I buy you?' Apparently I'm not having sex tonight either... but at least the ***** knows I'm smarter than her.
  21. Hola, I ride a 2008 RSTD it has between 11 and 12k on it. The only thing I have done is replace the stock air filters with K&N's. I hit reserve at about 140. I figured my gas milage on 135 leaving a bit of fudge room incase I need a gas station. I figured I am getting 32.5 mpg. I am doing a 4K roung trip this summer and trying to figure costs. I ride 80 miles a day round trip to work and 98% of the ride is highway miles. Anyone getting better mileage and if so what have you done to increase it of have you done anything? Thanks In advance SJ
  22. I hope I can adequately state my question...I am running MS Vista on a Toshiba laptop. When I click on my internet connection and then the "view status" area; it reflects a fairly rapidly increasing number for "bytes received"...is this normal? Periodically my computer runs quite slowly...I'm on Hughes.net satellite which I've figured might be the reason for such slowness. I have run two different virus checkers against my computer, to no avail...appreciate any input you may have.
