  1. Yah! If your metering valve wass bad either you would have no front brake (clogged) or the front would lock up (too much volume of fluid). The metering valve is pretty much an oriface that limits the flow rate to the front brake. The proportioning valve, on the other hand primarily lets pressure build up to the rear brake before sending pressure to the front brake. That's what the spring in there is for, a "back pressure" has to build up and overcome the spring rate before fluid is allowed to be sent to the front brake. This prevents "nose dive" when the brake is applied. Check the way Gary suggested by making sure you have flow to the caliper. Earl is an excellent mechanic and knows what he is doing, but sometimes defication occurs. Did the caliper bleed properly? What method of bleeding did you use? Vacuum pump works the best...
  2. I concur with the above. No system changes were made to the starter or battery cables, so most likely the PO already fixed it...
  3. Well, you are right about the source being the PCV systrm, but I'm not sure of the cause specifically. The system does not incorporate a PCV valve, just a rubber hose system that vents into the airbox. First question I have to ask is how full is the oil in the site glass? The oil level wants to be nomore than halfway up the glass with the bike level. Any more and it will regurgitate the excess amount of oil. While we are on the subject of oil, was it changed recently? If so, what kind of oil? If the engine is still running fine other than that, it's got to be something in the PCV. Perhaps a bug or something made it's home in one of the hoses...
  4. Welcome aboard! My first Venture was, and still is, an '84 as well! The gold ones are the fastest Venture ever made! There is a M&E coming up not too far from you in Minnesota around Labor day called the Pork in the Pines put on by member Whoomp. This year will be the first time for me but I have known Gary for several years now and am looking forward to finally meeting him face to face. If you ever have questrions, or need parts, be sure to bring it up here, there are many friendly and knowledgeable people here. Heck, most of us are even housebroken...
  5. Is it your Birthday AGAIN?!!? HAPPY BIRTHDAY BIG TOM!!!
  6. I agree!! My pump takes about that long as well, around a minute or less. Just pump real fast and you are done in no time...
  7. Pure bummer Jim!!! Were you using synthetic brake fluid? If not then switch to it not only for the better charactoristics, but also it does not seem quite as voilatile to abs plastric...
  8. Awww, man, I just spit my drink all over the monitor and keyboard!!!:rotf:
  9. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Father Time!!!!!!!
  10. Yah! If the shock is holding at 60 lbs then You probably did not blow the bladder. As mentioned the air and hydraulic chamber are separate. If you would have blown the bladder ity would now read zero psi and the bike would kind of waddle with very little shock action...
  11. Yah! What Squid said! You can remove the tuner controller and tape deck but not the intercom/radio amp controller. You could then wire the radio unit to the speakers and then have the CB and intercom go thru the headsets with some modifications...
  12. Well, depending on the date, we are interested...
  13. HAPPY BIRTHDAY Jonas!! Did you just turn 30???:banana::banana::banana::banana:
  14. NEVER EVER accept the first offer, and pretty much the same advice on the second either! Insurance companys are in business to MAKE money, not give it away! Make THEM sweat it out! I already gave my opinion on claims adjusters in another thread a while back but a member took offense to my statement so I won't give it here...
  15. BHest of luck Gary!! We will be praying for you! Keep us covered on how things are going.
  16. Yup!! Make sure you are well hydrated and avoid alcohol as that will dehydrate...
  17. Yes it sounds like a good deal but plan on rebuilding the carbs from setting too long, and plan on changing all the vital fluids as well. Check the date code on the tires, especially the front one. As Gary mentioned in his response there is a lot of stuff that won't work, but a lot of stuff will interchange like upper fairings, fenders, and rims minus the rotors to name a few...
  18. Funny thing, the EBC rotors, although they were listed left and right, had the same part number. Yes, you should be able to mount the MK2 rotors on either side and still keep the slot orientation as Dingy mentioned. Earl, thanks for the heads up, I have one brand new EBC for the project bike but need another for it. I guess I better do some searching if I want 2 new rotors on it...
  19. In your honor Becky and I stopped at Charlap's in North Boston yesterday. I had a Root Beer milkshake and Becky had a "Hot and Sticky" sundae. She couldn't finish it so I had to help...
  20. Yah!! She is VERY lucky to be alive! Anybody who has ever gone down knows it hurts and it's not pretty...
  21. Becky and I are soooooo happy for the both of you!!! Congratulations!! That park bench must be very lucky for you two!
  22. Tire manufacturers recommend not using tires over 6 years old. Yah, that isn't the freshest tire but I've seen worse. If it is a rear tire you should burn it up in a couple of years anyway...
  23. There are a couple of ground wires that are on the left side of the frame for the wiring harness. They are located near where the side fairing frame bolts to the main frame and where the throttle cables have that black plastic hookup to the cruise control near the coils...
  24. Is the sheephead smoked?? If so what wood do they use?
  25. Any year will fit. I agree with the above statements! The handle is just too darn hard to turn without pliers anyway! (There is a mod to fix that problem listed somewhere here)
