yah! Sounds like something is wrong with the light! It should come on just about the same time you have to switch over to reserve, and you should have about 2 bars left on the gauge...

Thinking about buying a Venture...Question.
bongobobny replied to DANGEROUSDANA's topic in Watering Hole
The second gen Venture does not handle as good as the first gen but it does handle the twisties pretty good. You can lean a goldwing a little more but you can peg scrape on either one. I found the RSV a lot more comfortable than a Wing and it is less expensive and has a lot better warranty. It's all individual taste and riding style, so if you can test drive both then do so and form your own opinions... -
Just prayed for her Dan and will continue to do so.

Enjoy! Rt 219 south of the PA border is a nice ride, but so is US 6 East and West. You could take RT6 to Rt 15 then come north towards Rochester and work your way back west to the border for a nice ride...

Darn! Would love to join you on your trip but we just got back from PIP last week and we are kinda tapped out at the moment! Have a great time! We want to do Asheville next summer sometime again...

Why do you multiple 1st Gen MKIs or MKIIs

mostly option 2 but somewhat option 2 as well! I fell in love with the Venture back in the 80's but never had an opportunity to own one until about 6 years or so ago. Picked upi trhe '85 as a parts bike but decided to use it as a frame up restoration project when I retire next year. I wanted to keep the '84 because it is such a great bike and very low mileage, and I have done a ton of restoration and updating on it, but I am going to part with it in the near future...- 14 replies

Uhhh, yeah, '89, '91, one of those numbers! That's what I get for posting before my morning coffee...

Try new plugs! Seafoam has been known to do such a good job removing gunk that it ends up fouling out plugs. Sooo, where's the pictures of the '89???

Yah! Oldest scam in the book!! First, if he has surplus he isn't very good at calculating material needs and second (actually first) NEVER trust a contractor going door to door soliciting for jobs!!!!! Good contractors are sought for, scammers go door to door looking for victoms... -
86 Venture Speedometer goofed up
bongobobny replied to 86venturejay's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Yah! Frank has it right! The cable spins a magnet which makes that "cup" move making the needle move. (condensed version) You may have metal shavings jamming up the needle movement or possibly, the needle is behind the stop peg instead of in front of the stop peg, that would prevent the needle from moving as well! You may end up having to replace the speedometer assembly. Good news is all VR's, MK1 and MK2 will work. BTW here in this site we consider the MK1 and MK2 to be a 1st generation Venture, and the RSV to be the 2nd gen. I am not criticizing, happens all the time, but you may get better response to your questions in the 1st gen forum. But as you see, they will get answered even in the wrong forum. we are not fussy here! -
Yah! Lemme try to remember this. Top speed of a Harley is 96 mph. Top speed in a MK1 is 93 mph... IN 3RD!!!!! Snaggletooth is right about the power band being above 3000RPM. That being said it depends on the road and how miserly you want to be. At 55 I would generally be in 5th knowing all it took was to drop a gear or 2 and then bye bye!!

Hey, who was the first eager beaver to have hot sex with me around the campfire, hmmmmmm???

On normal, about 2 - 3 miles before it sputters. On reserve about 25 miles, give or take! I carry an extra 2 gallons in my trunk and was glad I did going to Potato Creek, ran out of gas in the middle of nowhere...
-
OK my take! I normally get around 28 - 32 2 up depending on where I go, highway vs back roads. 2 up towing a trailer at sustained 70 - 80 mph yields around 22 mpg. Unless you want to stop every 2 hours or less I recommend the reserve tank. Then again, driving nonstop at 70+ mph you need to take a break every now and then... Floorboards. I wish I would have gotten them! But, then I would have to get off the scoot to back it up unless you want to add on a reversing device. They are the only floorboards strong enough for us over 200 lb guys to stand on! Having a dealer do the conversion vs Hannigan dealerr do it. They charge lots extra to ship and crate all the parts to the dealer, enough to justify a weeks vacation in the area and maybe even rent a car while you are down there! Drop the bike off Monday morning and pick it up Friday afternoon. Just make arrangements way in advance... Warranty. My dealer still warranties the bike except what got added!!!

OK finally made it home around 3:30 safe and sound except for my Garmin. It's been acting up fpr some time now and I'm ready to use it as a frisbee or clay target!! Also having problems with the base for my satellite radio, it thinks the antenna is disconnected when it is still connected. Pretty uneventful day. Put the rain gear on before we left, and it worked, didn't hit any rain save for literally a couple of drops! Glad I have tomorrow off, got a ton of things to get caught up on...

Very interesting day today! When we got near the Illinois/Indiana border saw a whole bunch of bikes lined up at the toll booths. Turned out it was a 9/11 ride coming thru and waiting for the rest of the bikes to get thru the toll. We left in advance of them, and at just about every overpass there was fire trucks with lights on and flags waiving and we had a great time waving to the people on the bridge!! Crossed Indiana and about 2 miles before the Ohio border it started raining! I pulled under a viaduct so Becky could put her rain pants on. Mine were buried in the trunk so I held off until we got to a service stop. Drove thru the rain for a couple of hours. Got near Sandusky before it finally stopped. Made it to the Hampton in Westlake. Sure beats the hell hole we stayed in last nite, much cleaner and more comfortable. We discovered that it's better to stay in a little more expensive place that has a real breakfast. Breakfast this morning cost us $25 at Bob Evan's whereas we expect a great breakfast for free here! Sure, it's $40 more but subtract the breakfast and that's only $15 for a MUCH better room!! Gonna do a little shopping at this quaint mall across the street before we head home, about 5 hrs or so from here includind stops...
