  1. wow... thanks for the great info. I'm ok at re-soldering so I think I should be good to go after a little work here. Silly Question.... Where is the TCI case?
  2. my 86 is being cranky again... Went to start her up and she didn't want to start. Finally started but wasn't running so hot. Noticed the RPM gauge was at dead zero and not even twitching. when I rev it... the RPM gauge takes a second but finally comes up. I took it for a quick spin and even at higher speeds it's bogging with out much power and also when it does bog... the RPM gauge goes back to zero like the bike is off. Then the RPM gauge will come back and it runs normal again. Kinda goes back and fourth from running fine to no RPM's and not running fine. HELP!!!! my baby is sick! hahaha... thanks in advance!
  3. Its definately been hot. If your ever in the area again, give me a shout.
  4. More pics posted in my photo album. i will post more of his bike soon. He had it custom painted
  5. I live in Georgia (gainesville area) and my brother who I have not seen in almost two years lives in Michigan. I got a text from him on the 4th saying to make surer I was off on Thursday and Friday because he would see me later that night. WOW! What a great surprise. Come to find out, he and his wife were on the bike and made the 780 mile trip down in one day. After mapping out some trips, and after some much needed rest, we set out for one heck of a great ride. We rode the blue ridge parkway, all around the foothills in Helen, GA and Blairsville Etc and made it all the way up to the Virginia line. The scenery was wonderful and since I have lived here for almost 11 years now, this was the first time I had ever riden with my brother. What an awesome time. Took many, many pics which I wll upload soon and I hope to be ridiong mine up to michigan in fall. Although, I don't think I'll plan to do it in one day. I of course was riding my '86 venture and he was on his '04 venture. We turned some heads and got penty of compliments when we stopped. just thought I'd share our good time. Maybe some of you guys are close here in Georgia and week and plan a meet and eat. Take care, Jay
  6. hmmmmmm... anyone know if this will work on my 86 1st Gen? My outlets have turn downs with a spring holding them in place... at least I think. I've never tried to remove the spring andf see if the turn downs slide off. Any thoughts? Thanks! Jay
  7. Coffeepot, I thought (or was hoping) the exact same thing. I put my dail face on it and it's close to accurate but we went for a ride to my mothers house to say hi yesterday and clocked 50 miles and it's actually closer to 30. It seems the Odometer will always be off without changing the gearing inside the spedo and that doesn't look so easy. I would defianately be willing to "swap" with you. I'll pay shipping for mine you pay shipping for yours? Sounds like we have the answer to both our problems. The speedo works perfectly. I greased it up before I installed it and it seems to run very smooth. Give me a shout over PM or call me @ 678-977-8199. Thanks! Jay
  8. I was in need of a new Speedo and I found a whole dash assembly on an ebay auction that I won for $32.00. WOW cheap right?? Yeah I thought so too but there was one draw back. The speedo was a KPH speedo and not a MPH speedo. It was so cheap, I decided to go ahead and get it anyway with the thoughts of maybe switching out the face of the speedo with my old face so the MPH would be the larger numbers. I tried this and unfortunately, the Speedo is off by about 5-7 MPH when check via GPS. Looks for now that I'll have to put the original KPH face back on and just deal with looking at the smaller numbers for MPH. My question is this, will this throw off the actual mileage of the bike (i rolled the dials of new speedo to match my mileage) even though I'll be driving following the MPH numbers on the dial. Just not sure if the mileage will tick by faster or slower since it's a KPH speedometer. Also, is there a way to calibrate this speedometer to match my MPH dial and to have the odometer roll for mileage and not kilometers? Thanks guys and gals! Jay Hope
  9. Just curious if anyone has one they would like to sell. Mine is seriously Kapoot. I keep checking ebay and can find em for 200 give or take but it's always for the whole dash... I don't need all that. Also, any ideas if other speedo's are compatible? Thanks guys and gals! Jay
  10. Thanks for the input thus far... Sounds like ill be going with the Bluetooth headsets. I was really wanting to stay with original equipment but i think the benefit of the Bluetooth headsets might outweigh the want to stay original. Thanks again and if anyone has any other brands of the Bluetooth sets they like, let me know. Thanks again!!
  11. Ok, so my intercom headsets have gone off to electronics heaven. I've looked at replacing them and the cost involved (dang the dealer is proud of these things) and have found them on places like ebay for not too bad a price but I'm starting to wonder if something like the Scala Rider blue tooth units would be a better way to go. I like the idea of having all original equipment but also hate to pay to get all new headsets and have another issue with with the audio system that puts me back to a non-functioning intercom. Seems like the Scala Rider may be the way to go but I've never used one and I'm still not sure about moving away from original equip as my 86 1st gen is beautiful and has otherwise all working equipment. Any thoughts? Ideas? Opinions? Thanks! Jay
  12. I've been readin LOTS and LOTS of posts on here about the tires.... shoooowheeee talk about varied opinions! HAHA.... Tires are such a personal choice that we all have our preferences... I'd personally love to put the Elite II on the bike but I'm on a budget... so I'm having to step back to a lesser tire and maybe a while down the road, I can get the Elite II's and pull the D404 off for a back up.... Sigh... Anyone got those winning lotto #'s I can borrow??????? Jay
  13. Well.... I've taken tomorrow off for a three day weekend. Tomorrow will be spent bringing my wheel and tire to the shop to have a new rear tire put on. The rest of the weekend will be spent riding. (I Hope). I think I've narrowed it down between the Dunlop D404 and The Shinko 777. Any thoughts on these or should I be looking at something different all together? I'm really leaning towards the Dunlop but just thought I'd pop in for a few varied opinions. Hope ya'll are doing great! Happy trails! Jay
  14. Thanks for the help guys, Makes way more sense now! I'll have all new rubber for spring!!
