There always a few snobs that think the only bike to own is a Harley and to each there own and if they want a Harley they will find a way to get it. I have seen very few people with a Harley that did not have to do a lot of up keep & expensive repair's, the price of ownship is to high. You can always tell its a Harley by the way they are pushing it.
  2. I like to see them put all back to a general class drivers license I.E. no endorsement.
  3. I have gotten after a Insurance company that referred to riding motorcycle's as a sport.
  4. Heres what I learned from a old timer! If you wear boots that you have to lace up take your spare key and undo the laces down to the bottom and run the lace threw it and redo it so the key is on the inside of lacing and there you have it, your not going anywhere without your boots are you.
  5. There was some talk of someone that was testing fuel for ethanol content from around the country and they found that some of the gas being sold had 20% to 30% ethanol now this was early last year, the website was pulled or shut down.
  6. Well I have not got my dues in as yet and just wondering how this all works.
  7. I'm learning as I go here and I have to explore that website a little but $200 full set, my wife will say no and she knows I can take it from something other thats cheeper. Hay may be found something I can make a few dollars doing.
  8. I don't know how most you feel about audio quality of these head sets, I just got the one that came with the bike working and it stinks. For what you pay they should be hi end HIFI. I may try looking at headphones for home systems and replacing them, I've tried many over the years and seen $30 sets that blow these J&M's away.
  9. I'm not planing on going this year but we have a big tent and it would require we use the pickup truck to transport it. This tent while not the biggest is heavy! 85 pounds + the bag that holds the poles, Made in 1963 sears & roebuck canvas tent it sleeps 9 we had as many as 12 in it but no room for anything else, also have large canvas a dining fly from Montgomery Wards also circa 1964. Camp gear we have.
  10. we were talking about this on another forum today. Very funny man and loved to cook and if he invited you into his home he would feed you to no end and it was all good. Burt rennalds worked with him on two movies after the second one burt was quoted: I will never work that man again, you can't get anything done you're to busy laughing from start to finish. We're loosing all the good ones.
  11. You folks are getting hit hard with rain lately and we're getting some it here in the eastern panhandle, good thing I've held off from planting anything in the garden! got the same rain two years in a row just drowns every thing.
  12. We're seeing more young and some older drivers rear ending bikes around here and the problem is talking on the cell phone while driving. Any more when I'm out on the bike I see lots of people on the phone as I'm always looking at them when ever there a chance they may pull out in front of me (I want to see a face looking at me) all to often I have to hit the breaks because they are zoned out or off in another world while talking on the cell phone.
  13. I have no problems with my bike just yet may be we should have Yamaha talk to Gabriel & Monroe or may be we should, $500 for one shock is a bit much.
  14. There is a mod for this using a after market and I'm thinking about putting a 5/8 wave on my bike.
  15. Here in West Virginia where I'm at we have a lot of patch work on the roads and end up with seems or part of the road is higher than the other. The tires you use can make a difference, as for tar snakes when it gets hot they get soft and the side roads have tar & chip and they get soft and so much so you cannot lean the bike on the turns or you will lose it.
  16. May be better idea to invite them?
  17. Good find and more surface area in a filter is good as it allows better flow or about the same as the competitors if its using a small micron filter! Say a 20. micron I can't see it gong any lower than that as it will restrict flow to much. A larger canister add a little more oil capacity and may have a modest cooling effect on the oil.
  18. Yes its a grease, and any here seen or have used any of the new synthetic grar lube's like Moble 1, its a 70w-90 LS now what the [LS] rating is I'm not sure this is a new to me and GL5 has been around for some time and in wide use.
  19. Yes they are very well made and a very good buy, there are some that will argue buying some other filter at much greater expense and while it may be a good filter they are not gaining anything. There are a few filters out there that should be avoided as its been proven they have defects the manufacture is not willing to fix.
  20. When I first got my Venture I did the lowering of the back and front also put a handle bar riser on it and I did not need to replace to cables, now I can sit back in the seat its great. I would suggest doing the risers & new handle bar first then see how the seat fits your butt, also it a new seat so give it time. Edit Add: When it comes to handling the OEM Tires are not the best and they will ware out in about 8,000. miles
  21. After 3000 miles on the same oil, most Yamaha's get a little hard to shift. Best to get your self to the local Wal-Mart and pickup a Supper tech filter Part number #ST7317 or ST6607 (the first one is best) and a Gallon of Shell motor oil Rotella T 15w-40 or Shell Rotella T 5w-40 Synthetic, see if that fixes the problem.
  22. I'm not an expert on the 84's but I would go for the signal relay and I would not know where it at but I know it when I see it. Also look to see all the bulbs are working I have seen a few setups where one bulb go's out it will stop blinking but the remaining bulb on that side will stay on.
  23. I do know you can get a lot more out of a good antenna than a lot peak power out put. I have yet to use my CB because I'm have problems with the J&M set (wires) I have a friend thats really good with tuning these things and I have wait and see, I like clean sound and I don't need a CB that will blast everyone within 30 miles of me.
  24. I had a good time the weather could not have been better, it will take me some time to keep the names with the faces but was great meeting every one. Me and RTR and Skid did a quick tour of the battle field seen a few sights I have not seen before. On the way home the bike was running a little ruff did a carb sync ahve to wait untll its stops rainning to test ride hope I got it right.
  25. Got it done and using a old vacuum gage set I've have since 1978 and they still work had to fuss with it some but its balanced as good as I can get it number 1. is a little funny as its not quite the same as 2, 3, 4. Test ride it tomorrow its raining now.
