Electrical Gremlin
ToRide1 replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Electrical Gremlin's, your gonna have to call in an exorcist for that one. -
I was looking at one of the those in 2005 indeed a nice looking bike.
-
It must have cost a million dollars too as few or most harleys don't make it past 90,000. miles without a rebuild or they blow.
-
I will try to be there ! weather permitting this is a easy day trip for me.
-
No doubt the V-Star 1100 or even the 650 V-Star is better made than any Harley I have seen. The others have posted some nice advice so be reasonable but firm with him. You could make a deal with him! Get two coffee cans one for you and one for him and every time eather of the bike breaks down and needs repair & parts (tires & air filters & plugs don't count) that person has to put $50 dollars in their coffee can and at the end of 5 years the person with can with the lest money in it wins and get to spend the money in both cans. I know who is going to win.

Known leaking issues from...
ToRide1 replied to Monsta's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
I have my other thread addressing the crankcase ventilation. It'd be nice if the two were related. It could very will be! if the Crankcase Vent is clogged some how it will crate back pressure inside the engine and if there is a place it blow out it will. Positive crankcase ventilation system was developed in the early 1960's as a anti smog control and most use a simple air filter or use the air breather for the carburetors and a tube from the crankcase with a check valve connected ether to the carb or manifold to burn off the pollutants. -
I should warn you if you can't stand a little ridicule your in the wrong place, all in good jest of course. It seems most of the previous owners of these bikes took the tool kit when sold the bike, like the 2nd gen I have and I got threw a dealer I got the owners manual but not the tool kit.

Try to get up on saturday morning and cheek out the local 7-11's and other convent stores in your area many riders use them as meeting places to get tother with other riders. Now I did take the time to look and I could not find any listing for a Southern Cruisers Riding club Chapter in your state and if you wanted to you could start a chapter and in the long run end up being the state representative to any and all future chapter's with Southern Cruisers. http://WWW.southerncruisers.net The local chapter I'm with is chapter 358 http://WWW.scrcberkeley.com

I re-activated an old thread asking about tool kits but the Question go's over the top of their heads. So I guess I will buy one of these tool kit that are available and take a chance on spending $75.
-
Tools I have and I can't have enough of them and I can spend $200+ building a kit but some times its cheeper to buy a kit just for the job. Now many have seen hand tools made so cheep that the wenches bend when you use them and thats what I want to avoid. So has anyone seen or have any of these Tool Kits that Companies Like Jc Witney sell?
-
This is an old thread but has anyone tried the tool kits from Jc Whitney! The 05 venture I got last year the factory supplied tool kit is gone and I need something to cover all basics. So any with experience with their kit are they worth the money or just keep looking.

Have tried to tighten it down and if not go lightly with that wrench now, many over do it and start bending or warping things. If that does not do it you may need to order a new gasket. not sure if there is a gasket they may use Yama-Glue -
I wondered about these bikes being re-jetted like they do the 650 V-Star! Take the 650cc displacement 650cc X 2 = 1300cc displacement. Now both the 650 V-Star and 1997 RSTD use the same carbs 28mm Mikuni. What I'm talking about requires a less restrictive exhaust and using a 127.5 main jet, Pilot screw 3 1/2 turns out and two shims on the needles and Pod Filters. It should make get up and go and on the 650's they get better gas milage than stock about 3 miles more to the Gallon.

You can do what I did! Get some 8Ft T-posts and a solar powered fencer and run a strand of wire spaced at 1Ft intervals all the way to the top of the T-posts that will keep the deer out and off the trees. I do this with my garden and it works great.

I was shown how to do this back in the 70's and knowing the RPM's you run at most of the time in high gear and sync the carb's at that RPM.

Have to take the time to find out where Falls Mill is at and I'm in Berkeley Co

As I was pointing out! There is the U.S. Department of Transportation and they will put you in contact with the people there that handle this kind of thing!! "Defective Safety Equipment". And like I said if enough people complain about the same manufacture, same Model, with the same problem, The U.S. Department of Transportation will make Yamaha motors do a recall on all the motorcycles the have this problem and have it fixed at no cost to the owner. It does not matter if the warentee has exspried Yamaha still has to fix it is the U.S. Dep. of Transport said it must.
-
I concur; But it seems a number of people can't get this fixed by a dealer its either they can't figure it out or they don't care, and this is safety equipment thats has a factory defect. I have never look into it but a call to the U.S. department of transpiration should get you in contact with the right people and if enough people call and complain about the same problem! They could make Yamaha do a recall on all the effected bikes to fix this at no cost to you.

Follow-up on "new idea for air filters"
ToRide1 replied to BigBoyinMS's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Seeing people wanting to do mod's to their Royal Stars I have thought about pod filters and I still don't know if there is room under the tank for them! Not having seen what's under there. I have a Yamaha 650 V-Star and have done what's called a GAK-kit mod (Gone-zo Air Kit) and it uses pod filters and the filters that come with the kit are made by [ EMIGO ] they make motorcycle air filters, oil filters, fuel filters, Don't know if they would be cheeper but worth a look. Doing this you may need to re-jet and better mufflers. -
Ok; to fix uneven brake pads, The rear bolt or the back bolt on the rear caliper needs a shim or washer of .42 Thousandths thickness.
-
I have seen a report of someone using shim to fix this problem, this was on another forum and I can't say how thick the shim was and just witch bolt it needs to go on. Stay tuned I will try to seek that one out and post the info here.
-
I have see a few thread's started about this on other forums. I'm not sure but there may be a miss alinement with the Brake Caliper and the Rotors on many of these bikes but not all! Many of the reports make a point of the inside brake pad being worn unevenly more so than the outside pad on the rear. I got my venture last year (used) the dealer said he needed to replace the rear rotor before he would let me have it and I told them about the problem other people have reported and he thanked me for that info and said he was going to look into that so far so good I have put 6,000. miles on it but I lowered the bike so the rear caliper relocate kit may have fixed the alinement problem.

Front wheel bearing numbers
ToRide1 replied to Gearhead's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Put the wheel bearings in the freezer for a few hours until your ready to install them and they will go in easier, but work fast or they will warm up and expand to normal to size.- 3 replies
