  1. Don't know what happened to the link but thats Ok I took the time tonight and get updated on this and wow the last time I looked for info on brake fluid there was just a few websites and nothing more than a refresher corse of what I knew going back to the mid 1970's and that DOT 3. was the best over all for general use because of its additive's and DOT 4 was good for heavy towing applications in light truck also box truck and road tractor where higher temps are more likely to happen and should be changed out every tire change or sooner. The DOT 5 many years ago was used by the military because it would not corroded the system from the inside out, but it was found to be incompadable with the seals and it had to be handled so not to get air bubbles when poring it as it would take days for the air to settle out and air is compressible not good to have in a brake system, DOT 5 found its way into off road applications like stock car racing where high temps happen all the time but the stuff had to be changed out often. Now things have changed some over the years and additive's that work well with synthetic's have been developed and refined work well with the seals. I'm still a little confused:confused07: over a lot of stuff that out there and doing the research:detective: I see Castrol has come out with a synthectic brake fluid that looks safe to use in cars & in our bikes.
  2. Glycol absorbs water and the brake system reservoir has a little vent hole in it on the side of the cap, and I agree it should be changed out every three or four years and it will help keep the calipers working smoothly.
  3. Use DOT. 3 or 4. Do not use DOT. 5 it is for racing applications and needs to changed out often.
  4. I have never seen or know of anyone that pulls a boat with their motorcycle, but I have seen a few trailers for Conoes and conoes can be had as small as 12Ft and are light weight. The Inflatable market there is pile of stuff out there but you still need a trailer to move it. As Outboards go I'm not up to date on what's out there but have seen my share of them and worked on them as well stay with the major brand names and some lakes you are not allowed to use gas powered so careful or you will get a hefty fine.
  5. I'm looking at trying to build a trailer for the venture and we have done a lot of camping over the years mostly using a car or truck to get there and camp gear I have like 4 tents, 4 camp stoves, 4 lanterns, 7 sleeping bags the list go's on & on. Like you I lived in eastern Long Island around Riverhead most of my life until 89 moved to West Virginia. I can't say we have a favorite camp ground but have returned to the same one more than once because we not done exploring the area.
  6. $70 per hour is the norm and sorry I did not understand its a used bike and congrats either way. Changing jets gets a little involved but not that hard to do and there are people here that can tell you What stock jet sizes you need to get they run about $5 dollars each and you may need to buy 8 jets! Some of the carburetors take a deferent jet size and I think it has to do with the length of the exhaust pipe and other factors.
  7. you should try and call your state House Representative with the State legislature and ask if he or she can tell you who to call about what rights you have when it comes to buying a new motor vehicles and explain the problem comely. I think the dealer as a factory rep should have to set the motor up correctly for the region at no cost to you. You will learn you have more rights under state law than you know, but is this covered?
  8. In the past i had the state of Maryland & virginia give me a ticket for not wareing a seat belt the the state of West Virginia did not require it or have that law and I beat it with that and did it without a lawyer! No judge in their right mind will dare challenge that constitutional right to travel and if they do they will be severely reprimand and undo it or be removed from the bench. But as one supprme Court Judge put it! If you don't know what your rights are, you don't have any.
  9. I know the rules on Politics but this relates to Motorcycles!! The General Assembly of North Carolina has a bill in the works and it looks like it made to the first reading!!! [House Bill 920, Motorcycles-No Passengers Under Age 16] I don't live in North Carolina, but I have been transporting My son (now age 12) for the last 4 years on the back of our 650 V-Star & as of last year the Royal Star Venture to get him to karate class and to school events and anything else. As soon as he could reach the foot pegs he started riding with me. I like to know just what they plan on doing when someone from out state comes into North Carolina with their kid on the back of a motorcycle? Are they going to make them detour all the way around the state and what if my destination is inside the state? I have the Constitutional Right to Travel and what is legal for me to do in my home state go's with me as I go over state lines.
  10. Welcome to the forum: Looking at your thread post your very new to motorcycles and I hope you read this threw and I don't mean to burst your bubble or rain on your parade, but the Royal Star Venture and Tour Deluxe is not for beginners yes its a big beautiful bike and I don't think there is any rider on the forum that was not intimidated the first time they rode it, most of us it takes 3,000 miles to learn it and relax and enjoy the bike. Some of the forum members posted good advice and we have a number of people here that live in canada you can get in contact with. Try looking in the news papers or even running a add for used bike's like the Honda Rebel and avoid anything bigger than a 750cc and even a 750cc can be very intimidating at first. Now riding with experienced riders you can learn a lot fast and learn a lot of things they will not teach you in any corse! Like you see a car pulling up to the road from a driveway or at a intersection and you should see the operator looking at you if not get off that throttle and hit the brakes your about to get run over.
  11. WOW its just amazing what the auto insurance industry can get the government to do, they would have us all running up ramps and jumping threw flaming hoops if they thought they could get away with it.
  12. Best of luck.

  18. I'm in my 50's now and still do the tent We have a camper also but at 11.5 miles to the gallon to pull it and that considered good many can't do better than 7-9 miles to the gallon. Now where to find good shelter! There is a Company called Campmore out of N.J. I think the web address is Campmoreusa.com and then we also have Cabelas.com Now a lot of these dome tents don't holdup very well in a high wind because there is no tie-downs Cabelas WestWind 4,6,and 8 man is a good pick, my self I go with with the A-Frame tents like Eureka Timberline Outfitter series 4 & 6 man not cheep but tuff & last for years.

  23. Ok 12:00 noon it is.
  24. So we are to get there by 2:00 or has that changed?. I'm going try and get there early so I can sight see a little.
  25. We've had a few threads on the rear brakes. Yes there is a manufactured defect in the rear brakes and it causes the inside pad to wear unevenly and this uneven contact with rotor will over heat the rotor from all friction focused on one spot. I did the lowering kit on my bike and so far I'm hoping it fixed the alinement problem, but have read the putting a shim of 42 thousandths on the rear bolt holding the caliper will fix the problem.
