  1. Well, I finally got around putting everything back together only to lose it a few days later. Now the coil went. All I am left with is the part of the antenna before the coil. I was shopping for electronic parts the other day and saw a bunch of CB antennas that are used by truckers for a reasonable price. If I put one of these on, what problems can I expect? Will my radio still work? Is there a specific length I should look for? I have to ad that I have no mike or headset. I just use it for traffic news. Don
  2. Well, I fixed the set screw. After heating up the top part, turns out I melted the black plastic sheath and the whole top came of. Now the coil is exposed and I still had to drill the screw to get it out anyway. Can I just pour in plastic glue and put the top back on? I will grind and fit a whip in it while I have it in my hands. Don
  3. Hi everyone For some reason unknown to me, I seem to have lost my antenna tip, that is the part that is up from the black device on the antenna. It seems to have affected my cb because I can no longer hear anything on it. The allen screw was stripped while I was losing it. Could I just replace the top part with a small whip antenna that are sold at auto parts or does it need to be OEM? Don
  4. I think that as long as the oil is not energy conserving, any decent brand should be ok. Not sure but anything in the 10-40 and up range has no energy conserving modifiers in it. My 2¢. Don
  5. Gold with Candy apple orange actually. This was not an option for me as dealers over here rip you of. Buying online with shipping expenses raised the price of the tire and that is why I decided to go with Dunlop. Believe me, so am I. Thank's Don
  6. I ordered new Dunlops from GBourque in New Brunswick. Rear is a E3 while front is a 404. I wanted what he had in stock and he would have had to order the E3 front or any other tire for that matter. Total cost is $310.00 delivered including tire fees and taxes. Here in the province of Quebec, we get ripped of by most dealers. A rear Kenda was back order and he was charging me $155.00 besides install and taxes. Another was asking $162.00 for a 404. Real rip off. I thought that Bourques prices were fair. Same as US + $ exchange. The rest is taxes and delivery. Suppose to get them monday latest. If everything goes as planned meaning I get what I ordered when I am suppose to, this guy will get thumbs up on my behalf. Will post back later. We should start a new thread on where in Canada to buy moto tires and accessories at a fair price. Some dealers dont give a hoot about the customer. Its just about the $$. Don
  7. Hi guys It has been awhile since I posted anything here. Got Don's email and decided to help out which at the same time prompted me to lurk back here again. Never got to thank Brian (Millman37) for the backrest he gave me 2 years ago. Goes to prove that some people are not just in it for the $$. Thank you Brian. Now on another note, took my bike out on March 16 for the first time this year.It is still pretty cold in these parts this time of year. Last week, on a chilly Easter Saturday, I decided to take a ride with my youngest in the back seat. We did about 15 miles of highway and exited to go to my oldest son's place. While at the red light, my rear tire deflated without me feeling anything. No need to tell you that I found out very quickly after releasing the clutch. The rear tire was shot and I was stranded in the middle of a 3 lane per side boulevard trying to get the bike of the street. I finally managed but I had to do so with the help of the bike's power. Long story short, I got it home on a trailer. After dismantling the wheel, I saw that the tire was cracked all around. I have had the bike since 2002 and did not really ride it much. The tires still have a lot of meat on them as you can see by the pictures. You will also notice a small nail which was the cause of my slow leak that necessitated air in the tire every month or so since last year. That was negligent on my part. I also checked the date code on the tire; "1996" . Yes sir! 13 years old. The front tire which is in good condition dates back 1992. If this mishap of an adventure would have happened on the highway at 70 mph instead of stopped at the light, I can only imagine what my son and I would be looking like right now. The moral of the story is that, I always took the tires for granted and as long as there was thread on them, we were good to go. Excellent tires, brakes and a good look see before every ride is cheap insurance for a fun day. Hope this reminds everyone that while riding, rubber and a clear noggin is what keeps us SAFE. Don PS Although my bike is a first gen, I might have posted this in the wrong forum. My bad and I apologize.
  8. I did not tear into it yet but, the noise seems to come from the left side. As I slowly rotate the wheel, it clicks at one definite spot and if I backup the wheel it does the same thing. I will check the rotor anyway. Thanks Don
  9. Hi guys. Well, the old girl developed a clicking sound coming from the rear wheel. I only put around 6000 miles on it since reassembly. I put it on the center stand and turned the wheel and it clicks once per revolution, always at the same place. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions before I tear into it this weekend? 87VR Don
  10. I thought that from 86 on, you did not need to grease the drive shaft as it is lubricated by the oil in the differential case! Don
  11. eagleeye Not sure but I think I read somewhere that your 06 pipes might have a catalytic converter in them. Might be worth your time to check this out before install. Don
  12. Dont know if this would help! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1989-89-YAMAHA-VENTURE-ROYALE-engine-MOTOR-RUNS-1300CC_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ10066QQihZ013QQitemZ230154081029QQrdZ1
  13. Last week I had a punk tailing me with his souped up pickup. I was on the highway and at 130 kph, I pulled in the right lane when I was ahead of the little traffic we had. He pulled on my tail so I cranked it up. Last time I looked at the speedo it was at 195 Kph and still climbing strong. I let go when I saw a puff of black smoke coming from the truck in my mirror. Needless to say I was glad he copped out. I was starting to get a little week in the knees. Not my usual speed but its nice to know you have the power when a jerk wants to run you of the road. Don
  14. I put in a Barnett when I got the Venture and it still slipped. I dont remember if I did any other mods to the clutch but I did double up the spring and that solved the problem. Don
