Bike occasionally dies on me.... ideas?
muffinman replied to DanOh's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Another possible problem that all the second gen owners forget is it could be a sidestand switch problem or the kill switch acting up.dont forget the simple things.you will need to eliminate one thing at a time start with the fuel pump and switch but dont forget to check the other things that can cause a no spark problem. rad hoses (ALL)
muffinman replied to talonsx2's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mike. Yes the radiator can go on first the hoses are real easy to see where they go but if. You need to look in the tech section the service manual has a section with the routing sorry can't do pics I am 195 miles from my bike -
Dan check to see if its realy the water pump making the noise the blonde had that and it was the pump

Well I put a car tire on the wing yesterday. I must say I am impressed after 400 + miles I may try to find one for the blonde it handles the wet very well and is pretty responsive in the curves at highway speeds.all that's left to test in 100+ on the slabs. I will try to keep this updated as I work on wearing it out over the next couple months. Jeff

Well after countless hours and I wont say how much money (dont want Mini to kill me) I made the blonde legal today got her inspected and new plates. We even went for a 80 mile ride in the rain just for fun.Shes running pretty good considering that she has been parked since 2008. After the next oil change or 2 I will think about painting her back to the original two tone blonde coloring. We decided that she has been such a good bike that she deserves to go back to oem paint.I replaced all 3 rotors with EBC's 4 new diaphrams, all new exhaust gaskets, all new black plastic around the radios new ebc brake pads, plugs, caps, wires, air filter, fuel filter assembly, new front master cylinder, new extra heavy windshield is on the way,I cant remember what all esle but I have been busy with her at every chance I had and today was the payoff. Almost got a ticket on the way to the shop to get Mini her lunch good thing it was raining or I would have been going faster.I do like the way she handles but the tires are fairly new and not scuffed in yet so I had to take it easy but there is always tomorrow. They can be reused If you slot them I want to say they are 6 mm if you don't have a small enough cutting wheel drill them and use a chisel to turn them out

Loud gear noise , help please !
muffinman replied to Frank3's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First of all Welcome to the site Frank Second it sounds like the middle gear is bad it has been known to happen around here had it myself.Take the rear wheel off and remove the 4 acorn nuts holding the differential to the swing arm.then remove the drive shaft, after that take the black rubber boot off the engine end just move it aft and look at the middle gear and u joint I use a light from the pumpkin end to see it you can get a small screwdriver in there and try to lift the ujoint end up to see if there is play on the engine side. If you need me to talk you through any or all parts of this diagnosis give me a call at 9196735095 any time after 10 am thursday through sunday I work till 0130 and would not mind helping with the bike I also have parts to fix the problem when you figure out what is needed Jeff -

I would think that the backfire is caused by the carbs probably needs a fuel air mixture adjustment. It could be a fuel problem lack of proper fuel pressure or flow.Have you changed the fuel filter? Hows the air filter? valve adjustment should not make it backfire Jeff
