  1. Putting the finishing touches on my new motorcycle garage today and thought to myself I really need some music in here, since the xm radio in the Venture won't pickup in the garage thats out.Went into the storage barn and found an old stereo system that had been stored away for about 20 YEARS.Hooked it up and bingo!!!!!!Music!!!!!! Then I realized something, it matched my Venture........oh yeah......they both have cassette decks on them.Bad news!!!! I got rid of all my cassettes years ago. Oh well.
  2. Last week I participated in my first mission. It was a KIA. I knew what the PGR is about but I didn't expect to be emotionally drained afterwards. When I saw the flag drapped coffin being unloaded from the plane it almost put me on my knees. I can't imagine what the family was feeling. Since the mission was local I went to the airport for the arrival of the body, stood in the flag line at the viewing at the funeral home and rode in the funeral possession. There were over 150 motorcycles that showed up. It was an awesome display of caring. The Westboro Church posted on their web site that they were going to be at the church the day of the funeral, but they didn't show up. One of the ride captains said she hadn't seen any of the WBC people show up in about two years. They had a permit to picket at a church in Marietta, GA. The church was a small church and when they realized how many PGR riders were coming they realized they couldn't handle all of them so they moved the services to the First Baptist Church in Marietta. When the Westboro people showed up at the small church no one was there. They found out the services had been moved to the First Bapist Church so they went there but were told they didn't have a permit there and would be arrested if they didn't leave. I talked to a guy from Phenix City, Al that said he bad been on the road for 14 days going to missions. I told him I didn't expect to experience the emotional drain and he said you never get used to it. Go Patriot Guard!
  3. My wife would like somewhere to put her feet higher than her footboards on our RSTD. She has put her feet on top of the saddle bags, which caused me to suck the uphostery on the seat right up my @#$%&!!! when I realized she did it. Anyone mount a set of pegs up a little higher and did the fold out of the way? Thanks. R.
  4. How many Moose riders do we have here? I am a long time member of lodge 547 in Ashtabula Ohio. We are going to get the Legion Riders started here if the interest exists. I just realized I asked how many Moose riders we have. The Canadiens should go nuts with the funny responses.
  5. BIG TOM

    LMAO

Just realized how dumb I am....Taters is on the computer and I on the laptop......We have been private messaging each other and then I realized we are 20 feet away from each other.
  6. Picked up this 77 Honda CB550 to rehab with my 17 year old daughter. We have been talking about it for years, but I realized I only have a year and a half left. Hoping to take it back as close to original as we can get it. http://i275.photobucket.com/albums/jj302/ThomWill/The%20Honda%20Rebuild/100_0489.jpg
  7. Just yesterday I got on the bike and after about 15-20 min I realized that there wasn't any noise coming out of the headset. Oops forgot to turn on the radio. As soon as I noticed I realized just how much I enjoy riding that it takes me 20 min to realize that all I'm listening to is the sound of the ride. (and yes, I had a smile on my face the entire time.)
  8. Black Owl

    Duh!

Just read in the paper this morning that bank robberies were down 20% last year... Gues they finally realized they could not compete agains the CEO's.....
  9. My chirp is gone. Bought my RSTD in June with 7200 miles. Had the chirp and was very noticeable which was ok with me because I love this bike. I figured I would just put my earbuds in and sing along wih the music, drowning out the chirp, which worked and made me realized how good I could sing at 60 miles and hour. I left my ipod at work and today was a beautifuly 66 degree day in maryland and went for a 150 mile run. As soon as I started winding through the gears I realized something was missing, then after about 20 miles, I realized it was the chirp. I have been reading about having the clutch basket replaced this winter and different oils to use to elimanate the loud chirp, but now it's gone. I haven't done anything to this bike and I tried everything going through the gears at various speeds, but can't find it. Has this ever happen to anyone? I sort of miss it, but really enjoyed not having it on the 150 mile ride. Also, I use the same gas at the same station and am really puzzled.
  10. After a 2200 mile last week on my 06 RSTD, I realized either I got the wrong bike or I can't do long rides. Primarily my hind-end got the best of me...I hate to give in to defeat but, I think I'm only good for two tanks of gas. One to get there and one to get back. My hat is off to you guys that can ride all day, everyday. As far as seating, I've tried the mustang and currently riding on the comfort-cruise with a utopia back rest. I made the mistake of telling my wife I wanted to try a goldwing next and she said I was in denial, lol.
  11. Hey all! Well I'm back, digitally of course. I never went anywhere physically. I want to apologize for disappearing like I did for the last four months. It's amazing it's been a third of a year since I logged in here last and I feel real bad for that. I spent the last few days reading some posts trying to catch up as best I can. Read about the trip to Cody, saw the flyer and going to start working on making that a possibility. It will be the longest trip I have ever made on a bike and need to plan carefully. I read about MasterGuns putting his VR out to pasture and getting a Harley. I know no one is perfect and I'll be the first one to stand up and admit it. With all the excitement of getting my VR at the end of summer and getting my 'list' of things done to it before the Venture Rally in Athens, I got my priorites messed up. I hadn't realized I had spent almost every night and most of every weekend for over a month with the bike. Either working, riding, cleaning, staring, etc. And was not spending time with my family like I should. I realized that the best way is to just get out of the pool and get back in one step at a time. I just hadn't realized that 4 months could go by so fast. My wife is in school during the day and works nights so most of my free time is spent doing housework and taking care of our toddler. Until she finishes school and gets on a regular 8-5 job (3 more months!) I have to be careful how I spend my time. I haven't done much with the bike since the rally other than start it and take it for a quick mantenance ride every few weeks. However, I'm happy to say that this past week I spent taking every part of body work off the 88 with the exception of the rear trunk and the upper fairing/lights/electronics. I drove it up today to my mechanic in Hurst. Going to have some things taken care of that I don't have the time + know how to do. And would just simply feel better if an experienced person took care of. So, hopefully, after about 3 weeks I should have it back and in the meantime will be cleaning/polishing/JBWelding up all the body work in prep for the bike's return. I'm very excited about the comming riding season. As it will be the first one that (if things go well with the wife's job) my family should be on a regular schedule and I should have time to ride like I haven't been able to in 3 years. And my bike will be in tip-top shape to boot! I hope everyone is well. Missed all you guys and glad to be back online! Drop me a message, PM, e-mail or the finger if you like (I deserve it). -Chris "The Crimson Knight"
  12. This evening at about 6:30, Laura and I decided to ride out in the cage and get a bite to eat. We were driving on a four lane city street that has a divided island except for an occasional turn through to the left. The speed limit is 40mph. We were going to be making a right turn at an intersection and there is a turning lane that is several hundred feet long. Before this one, there is another turning lane that goes into a small business district, but it ends and goes back to two lanes for just a hundred feet or so. The problem is when a person turns into the first turning lane, meaning to turn into the second. This area of the street is marginally lit with street lights and when I was coming up to the turn lane, I hesitated for a second to make sure I was not going into the first one. As I looked forward from checking the mirror, I realized I was about to hit a guy that was walking across the street, at least 200 feet from the intersection in dark clothes and absolutely oblivious to oncoming traffic. I barely missed him and realized that if I had not hesitated for a second or two to go into the turning lane, I may have centered him at about 25mph. It scared the crap out of me. He did not seem to get in any hurry to get out of the street. It just made me realize how quickly our lives can change, even when we think we are doing things the right way. RandyA
  13. just got back from a 160 mile morning ride, and realized that the leg position is'nt as bad as i thought. my legs were in such bad shape i was getting to the point that i thought i was becoming cripple. then i realized i haven't really bent them much in the last couple of years and my knees were becoming very stiff. this wing has been the therapy i have been needing. i can actually get down on the floor and get up by myself and walk with no pain. this is great to not be in absolute pain 24 hours a day, and able to sleep with out tossing and rolling, and can get my feet up on the pegs on my zx14 without cringing from the pain. hallaluyah.
