I don't have a 2nd gen but here's this forum where they seem to be discussing this very same topic. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=41845 They say that it's either your oil or engine temp warning light and that it won't light up unless the engine is actually running and not just the key switched to run. -
I figured there were a few that would be interested in knowing how this ended up looking. So here are a few shots of it now that it has been sand-blasted to get rid of the tooling marks.

Thanks for the positive responses! Yeah, I'm the kid that designed it. I'll definitely post some more pics when I'm done finishing it. As well has some of the ones of it being cut out too.

Just yesterday I got on the bike and after about 15-20 min I realized that there wasn't any noise coming out of the headset. Oops forgot to turn on the radio. As soon as I noticed I realized just how much I enjoy riding that it takes me 20 min to realize that all I'm listening to is the sound of the ride. (and yes, I had a smile on my face the entire time.)

Of course! Didn't you notice that many of the new ones have "mute" and "Volume + / Volume -" buttons?

Today I ran to smiths real quick. I was wearing slightly baggier pants than I usually ride because it was such a short trip. When i got there I pulled into a stall and went to put my right foot down to support while I got the kickstand out with the other. Darn cuff of my pants caught on the foot brake and nearly tipped the bike the over. Fortunately I got my toes down just enough to keep it from going over.

Today while I was in my statistics class I came across some intresting points in our book. (Yeah, I'm nerdy and read the book.) Anyway the following statistics were noted under the heading "Quality in Services" * The average company never hears from more than 90% of its unhappy customers. For every complaint it receives, the company has at least 25 customers with problems, about 1/4 of which are serious. * Of the customers who make a compaint, more than half will do business again with the organization if their complaint is resolved. If the customer feels that the complaint was resolved quickly, this figure jumps to about 95%. *The average customer who has had a problem will tell 9 or 10 others about it. customers who have had complaints resolved satisfactorily will only tell about 5 others. * It costs 6 times more to get a new customer than to keep a current customer. Now as we were covering these points I couldn't help but think on all the complaints that I've seen here about Yamaha's apparent lack of care when keeping up to date with the latest changes and all the other posts I've seen where a member has said farewell to their Venture cause they want something that is offered on other bikes but not on the venture even though Yamaha has the tech to implement it. So I'm curious as to what features Yamaha has to implement in order to keep from loosing more ventureriders. Thinking back I'd say that the list would include but not limited to: Fuel Injected Cassette Deck Replacement First Gen Gearing (power range and such without the 2nd gear issue) Kind of curious as to what others think on any of the above topics.

For those of you who didn't see my first post. I bought an 83 first gen about a month ago for about 1000 dollars. While the bike ran it needed some TLC and thus the low price. After re-connecting all the wires going to the various sensors and fixing the problems that set off all the warnings the previous owners didn't want to bother with I was finally able to move on to the plastic. The pictures I'll be posting will show the before paint and after paint but not before the repair work was done. (Mostly because I forgot to take pictures of the all the damage before I started.) I got it all put back together about a week ago, (after about 3 weeks of having it torn apart) and today was able to take it on a local ride (Ride for the Fallen (soldiers)) that was 120miles long. The ride was great and there were over 200 bikes that participated. The only hiccup was a storm that decided to rain on us for a min (and if you were lucky like me and Utadventure hail on us too) but it was only for a few min and then everything cleared up. So in the end I'm thinking of getting a licence plate that says 'Stark' or some such to go with the paint scheme (even though that wasn't what I had in mind when I picked out the colors.) http://s739.photobucket.com/albums/xx33/shtrdthrd/Iron%20Man%20Paint%20Job/ Edit: Not sure why the link doesn't go to the paint album. I finally finished repairing the plastic on my bike and so it was time to paint. Since I wanted to change the color of the bike I pulled the front tire to get the front fender off. I shot a layer of clear coat to smooth it out before painting a base coat and then it was time to go to work for the night so I left the tire off. After painting everything today I tried to put the front tire back on and... WTF?! The front axle doesn't fit in the the forks any more. It's like the axle bolts are too tight but they are so loose they might as well not be there at all. Any suggestions would be welcome. After all it's a shame to finally get done fixing the bike and be stuck with the front tire off.
