gas mpg dropped significantly
Flyinfool replied to gogi's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
First thing is see if it is running on all 4. Start it up cold and see if all 4 exhaust pipes get warm at the same time. These bikes run amazingly well on 3 cylinders. The gas mileage is the first hint that you lost a cylinder. At least you narrow things down if you know which cylinder is the one that is nor running. -
And north WI just got 8 inches of fresh snow for you to play in.

Must be sumpin from the other side of the pond.

I never mentioned the boss........ Specially when the boss is vacationing here in Wisconsin right in my backyard. You would park it right on the marked hardly spot in the pic.....

General Consulting, not motorcycle related. Car related
Flyinfool replied to calperin's topic in Watering Hole
Jasper engines have been around a long time and have a good reputation. Another option is a low mileage used engine. This will be a lot less than the new Jasper. AS mentioned, the car has sat for 2 years. expect many other things to go wrong quickly due to non use. Brakes, power steering, A/C, fuel pump, transmission, tires, and other things are all parts that do not like to sit unused. it is impossible to know if $5500 is a good or bad price on the Saturn with out more info. -
Ready for my coldest ride yet.... in honor of you snow boys..

So much for your location slogan "Tucson, where we keep the ice in the freezer.":rasberry: -
Jerry and Jane made it up here a couple of times for the M&E that I have. They will be missed.

OK I have found a source for a TBL controller that is solid state and will make the brake light work correctly. Square Metal Logic Box, 3 prong. Just 3 wires to hook up, left turn/brake, right turn/brake and the wire to the brake light. I have one of these installed on my truck for the center brake light on the topper and it does work as it should. I do have a call in to the manufacturer to see how many it would take to get a group buy going. At the moment I have a relay version on my trailer, but relays are mechaanical devices and do wear out, contacts fail and are not waterproof. I will be changing this out to the solid state version.

Hey that is cool (not cold) enough for some good snow to fall. Here is wishing you the best. -
With many of the multi color sets you can set up the controller to be constantly changing color or pick a steady color. This way you can have any color for show wile parked and then switch to a legal color when riding. From the rear you can only have red showing, from the front only amber or white showing and from the side it must be amber toward the front and red toward the rear. This is one of the things that it does not matter what is legal in your home area, local law applies and some localities (like the one I live in) are real picky about light colors. They have extra cars on the road during harley birthday parties just to keep up with writing tickets for illegal lights.

I wonder what you could save by using an android APP to eliminate the display and display driver and processor from your board. Most of us have half of that hardware in our pocket already. If I did not already have a carb tune I would have snagged one of your kits. I love techno toys. I can do hardware but my programing ability flat sucks.

When you right click on the pic you want to paste, if you select "Copy Image" then it will paste the pic, if you select "Copy Image Location" you will paste just a link.

That certainly does sound scaaaaarrrry for all involved. Stop doing that and get better, QUICK.

So the solution is obvious, leave the faring off. Maybe you just had something not plugged in tight and now it is. Don't ya just love a good old electrical problem that becomes an intermittent one.......

Got store credit to stock the aquarium up with more fish.

Help with knowledge on electrical connectors, crimpers etc.
Flyinfool replied to Droneh8tr's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
The eBay and HF crimpers are ok in a pinch. The more expensive one you originally listed is much better and will crimp more types of terminals. Different types of terminals need a different crimp. There is no such thing as one crimper to do it all. The ratcheting ones are by far the best because they will always apply the same pressure to the crimp, so once adjusted correctly, every crimp will be perfect. The pliers type it is easy to get to much or to little pressure from crimp to crimp. I have worked on many electrical issues that came down to a bad crimp from a pliers type crimper. -
Well Merry Christmas to you to old lazy one........ I think you need more snow to pep you up......

When you change a stator you will need 2 gaskets and a crush washer. You have to pull the middle gear cover before you can get to the the stator cover. The bottom screw of the middle gear cover has a crush washer under the screw head. If you forget this washer it WILL leak oil.You will also need a tube of black RTV sealant to seal up where the wires come thru the cover. You can get a Higher output stator, BUT none of the HO stators seem to live as long as the OEM stator, AND if you HO stator you must also go with a HO RR to realize the full benifit of the HO stator. Stators and RRs can be had from Skydoc_17 on this site.
