I ordered the gauge set that Ponch designed and sells to replace the cassette deck in our second gen Ventures. I just want to say to anyone considering it, ORDER IT NOW. It is a well thought out quality package with EVERYTHING you need to install. It comes with awesome instructions, should be a straight forward install. Thanks Ponch! Ron:bighug:

Hubby bought us the Shark bt intercom for our helmets. One thing we noticed is this. There's alot of treble on the headset and not alot of bass. These use the 3.5mm jack to plug into the bt transmitter. Is it possible to get a new speaker set with mic that has a fuller range than the set that comes with the transmitters? I'm mostly using mine to listen to music out on the road but like every now and then to have an easy way to talk with the hubby.

They are Ensenada Mexico on a mission trip, They do it every year for abuot 8 years in a row, I was able to go last year but it didnt work out for me this year. SO,...I usually find some project to do around the house while Lori is gone and suprise her when she returns. This year I decided that we need some storage area for all of our Motorcycle Stuff, Helmets, Jackets, Chaps, Touring Bag etc. They usually get sprung all around the house after a ride. I built a shelf on an un-useful wall in the downstairs family room, and also decided to get some pics of our bike trips and make a collage of photos. Here is the end result: http://inlinethumb54.webshots.com/45621/2060146090101950171S600x600Q85.jpg http://inlinethumb64.webshots.com/36351/2549971900101950171S600x600Q85.jpg HERES THE COOL PART,.For Hanger Hooks I used a set of Rider Pegs that came off the Royal when I bought Floorboards. http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/46892/2355996130101950171S600x600Q85.jpg AND for the Helmet Holders I used the stock Risers: that came off the bike when I got new pullbacks: http://inlinethumb46.webshots.com/48685/2401736520101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Ans also used the front center covers that I had laying around for the end caps: http://inlinethumb56.webshots.com/46647/2859021840101950171S600x600Q85.jpg Anyway I think she will like it, I thought it turned out pretty good and just wanted to show it off! Thanks!

My son(vegastruckee) set out on a 4,000 mi. road trip from Las Vegas a couple of days ago, on his 2nd gen 2002 VRS. Yesterday morning when he left Sacramento, Ca. he lost 5th gear. It was like he shifted to neutral. He called me at his next gas stop and I hit the forums. I made a couple of calls from the VR assistance list and Tim helped me find a place for truckee to get some help. I searched all over the forums for the problem and found some solutions by the time he made his next stop. I set him up with Justin at Pacific Motorsports in Eureka, Ca. They drained the oil and didn't find any fileings or gear parts in it, so truckee is continuing on. I think, from the way it sounds, he may have the old "pin" style gear change pawl, and the retainer clip has bent/broken and allowed the pin to partially dislodge. I will be going out to Vegas next month and ,if he completes his trip with no other issues, I will help him take the cover and clutch basket off and show him how smart I am. He expects to have to drop the motor and split it. I told him he shouldn't have any trouble in 4th if he watches his temp., fuel mileage, and keeps it under 75. His previous motorcycle was one of them Hiabussa's, so the last step might be hard for him.

Your wright up on how to replace the rear brake pads gave me the curage to do it myself..........Agin thank you as it saned me quite a bit by doing myself and now gives my a l.ittle more curage to do other things to this old girl myself. On a different note its amazing how well these things stop with new pads on the rear. I knew they were bad but it was almost touching on the inside pad and less than 1/8th and inch on the outside. guess I got my money on that set. I took a look at the front so they are next. I had a set of fa123's on hand so they went on the rear but I think I may put the sinterd set on the fronts as money gives leeway. Later all and again thanks fuzzy David

Does anyone out there have a 1989 Yamaha Venture Royale triple tree complete with pinch bolts and the main shaft nut etc? With the information I received from a member I was put onto Steerite, which modifies your original triple tree. As noted above I would like to get a complete set to ship up and have modified. Then all I have to do is swap them out this winter. Thanks, Vic

Ok,for anybody within reach of North Central Pennsylvania,I stopped at on of my favorite haunts for motorcycle stuff,Larry's Cycles,a long time Yamaha and Harley Dealer. Here is an inventory as best that I can remember from this afternoon. For !st gen owners: rectangular driving light set[main parts room],chrome fairing trim,2 sets of chrome seat mounts[not sure which seat].These will be found in a cardboard box in the middle of the floor in the western most used bike room.Just root around.{also some NOS V-Max trim}.In the main Yamaha acessory room,4 sets carb covers+1set for"96-'98,2 chrome center covers to match battery side covers,1 set rotor covers,1 set rear wheel chrome covers,2 sets master cyl covers, driving light mount bars, old style saddle bag lid protectors[i think there was 1 set for 1st gen also] and I'm already starting to forget, but I'm sure everyone gets the idea. And there was 2 Royalstar riding jackets in sizes XL and M.I am not a shill for Larry's,just want to help anybody looking for hard to find items. They are located on Pa route 6,west of Galeton about 4 or 5 miles.Good luck and happy hunting,Herb.

Anybody here have any experience with rebuilding them? I tore up the spider gears in my 78 this spring. I had bought a new ring and pinion to change the ratio from the 3.25:1 that was in it to go to 3.89:1 so it would be more ideal with the transmission gearing, peak horsepower, and tire size I would be running a while back. Now is a good time to get them in while I was replacing the diff case seeing as how the original one had holes punched through it. But now that I have everything together, I need to set the rotational force on my pinion and carrier bearings. But I don't have a torqometer, and a spanner wrench would also come in handy. Would anybody happen to have either of these and be willing to lend them or help out who lives in the Thorp/Eau Claire/ Chippewa Falls/ Abbotsford , WI. area? Anybody have any tips or hints that I should be aware of? Anybody have the proper torque specs? I've found several places on the net with them, but they vary a bit from one to the other. One says to set the preload on the pinion to 22-32 inch lbs., which definitely feels way to tight. I just don't want to go through all the money and trouble just to have the thing melt down or explode on me. Thanks for any assistance, Bill

I have an 88 VR. Last year the TCI nuked and I replaced it with the ignition from Checkloslovakia. Road for quite a while this spring now I'm having trouble with hot starts. Bike starts first time but won't start after being ridden for awhile. Will turn over once or twice then the starter disengages. Leave it set for an hour and come back to it and it will start. I don't know whats going on but the battery is good and when running charges at 12 volts. Anyone have any ideas?

Just wondering how or if you all manage to get your bike on the lift by yourself. I had my daughter to help me as I road the bike up on the lift. I first set two milk crates beside the lift, one on each side, then road up and used these to set my feet upon when I stopped. Then my daughter tightened the clamp on the front tire and also helped get the paint can and short piece 2x4 under my side stand. Surely, or is there a better way, and maybe a safer way of doing this by myself ???? The lift is from Harbor Freight item number 91764, the red one. :confused24: Fuzzy

I installed 2 sets of Stebel ELectric horns. I used the exiting 2 sets of wires, Left wires for the front set and right for the rear set. Each set has its own relay. The horns have been working for several months. This last weekend during an hour ride it seems that the horns were not as loud. When I got home I press the horn button 4 times as I touched each of 4 the horns. The rear horns does not work. I took both of the rear horns off and wired them directly to the battery and they work. I put a new relay on and still does not work. I would like to start troubleshooting with the 4 wires at the relay, only I've forgotten what wire goes where. Could someone fill in the blanks for me 30 comes from where ____________ 85 comes from where ____________ 86 comes from where ____________ 87 comes from where ____________ Thank you. Brian

For those that need/want some pin striping done at MD this year, J - Bird will be there set up and ready to "do it" Friday AM. I just spoke to him and he's anxious to be there again this year, he'll probably set up his canopy by the willow tree again.

I lost one of the screws for the side cover. Part # 90149-06298-00 I have found a couple of suppliers but some want $13 to ship a $1.44 part. Are they any places with reasonable shipping for a couple of these? Its a real pain searching because most of them you have to set up an account to find out what the shipping charges are. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
