  1. What causes the throttle to return to the closed position once the grip is released. The new '88 I have doesn't return by itself. It's like having a throttle lock on the control. Any suggestions? Dave
  2. Boy Rick, you nailed it!! I bled a lot of water absorbed brake fluid. I bbled it until it ran clear and then I had rear brakes. Thanks. Now on to a couple of other issues. Without the CLASS working, add Progressive Springs and maybe heavier fork oil? Also, need to stop the valve cover leak. I took it for a 30 mile ride tonight. It has plenty of power and rides nice unless you hit a hard joint. Happy Independence Day Dave
  3. I got an '86 parts bike also, so I have spare parts to work with but not enough experience on brake systems. I think I'll get replacement pads first. How is the best way to check if the calipers are working correctly. Take them off the rotor and press the pedal?
  4. I added an '88 VR to the garage this week. The bike came along with a parts bike ('86) and has some parts already gone. I changed out the lens cover on the instrument panel, changed the right panel and speaker, swapped the CB radio but the neither CLASS units work so it's without air suspension. Got the bike completely cleaned and changed the fluid in the front brake resevoir and the clutch resevoir (very dirty, ugly). I couldn't get the rear brake to hold up. I could pump it up and bleed the front left and then the rear but after during the test ride I had NO rear brake at all. Resevoir was filled appropriately and both lines bled out fine and I don't find any leaks. I couldn't tell the status of the rear brake pads. If it were yours, what would you do next? What do you check? I would appreciate your suggestions. Also the throttle doesn't alway snap back on its own. Dave
  5. Beartooth is a great ride (without rain) - time for another trip. Bring your bike to Cody in September, we're riding it then!! Dave
  6. My wife's cousin just bought a beautiful 1st gen Blondie (mkII) and we did a carb sync on it last night. When I went to attach the Carbtune, the vacuum hose rather than attaching directly to the #2 cyl was split and connected to both #1 & #2. On the other side, there was a piece of hose that connected #3 & #4 together. It surprised me a bit? We synced it up and then put it back as we found it. What effect, if any will this set up have on the operation? Should he put it back to stock? Curious! Dave
  7. Make sure you have a passport! Dave
  8. Give us a call when you hit SLC. We'd love to meet you! We have a breakfast in our yard on the morning of the 4th, please come! Dave & Jan
  9. If you like a latin flare - Cacho Tirao
  10. The splitter will help you set the SWR but will not do it all. I just worked on mine this past week. Hook up the SWR meter and using the pot on the splitter, adjust it to get your best reading on the meter. The channel you are on at this point is not important but I used 20 as it's in the middle of the spectrum. Now you can adjust the antenna to match up to the radio using normal procedures. It helped my system quite a bit but I still have some bugs to work through. Dave
  11. Mike- You're welcome to ride home with us to SLC and crash with us before heading to the Grand Canyon. From Evanston, WY we can take a detour over Mirror Lake Road (SR 150), down through Kamas, Utah and into SLC. Just hope the weather cooperates. Dave
  12. For those of us who haven't have the pleasure of attending MD (yet), I now truly understand what a pond monster is....I'm not sure I like it butt.... Dave
  13. We're glad to hear that you are doing better (going a little insane but better). We're prayer for a quick recovery and get you back on the road. Dave
  14. I don't know if you can reach it or not. One of the many uses for Seafoam is as oil additive. You can add some to the oil, run it for a little bit, let it sit overnight and see if it help breakdown the build up on the sight glass, then do an oil change. Just a thought. Dave
  15. Last Saturday, Jan and I rode down to the 8th annual Rat Fink Reunion. It's held each year to remember Ed "Big Daddy" Roth and you get some pretty interesting cars. This year our two oldest grandsons rode on the back of our bikes and threw the candy to the kids lining the parade route. They had a great time. The younger was celebrating his 4th birthday. A friend of mine made a set of motorcycle handlebars that mounted in place of the Utopia backrest I have. It worked great as he's squirmy and this help keep him boxed in. My daughter took some great pictures Dave
  16. Now I'm curious --- did it turn into a Venture after the exorcism??? Dave
  17. I feel an honor to be asked. Prayers for a fast and full recovery. Dave
  18. I had a similar problem with the passenger system. I replaced the cable from the amp to the rear passenger point under the seat and solved most of the issues. I had more success after replacing the cable that the passenger plugged into. Dave
  19. My son spoke with Avon today regarding his front tire that has sidewall cracking (back tire is fine) The code on the front is 0632 and they had him drop his bike at the dealer for a warranty replacement. He said that they were excellent to work with. Best of luck!! Dave
  20. Isn't there a thread that shows how to bypass the ignition switch. Doing that would at least let you drive the bike to the locksmith (and provide protection should the ignition fail in the future) where they could pick the saddlebag lock or ??? Dave
  21. Good morning Vic! With your fellow rider plugging their helmet in and everything work great, I would suspect that your JMC2300 unit is good and the problem is in your helmet. You mention that you have the DU version, do you have a complete helmet setup for your passenger? If so, you can see if it's your lower cord by swapping it out or testing the complete set up in the riders connection and mis and match parts until you find the faulty piece. I usually use a handheld CB to do some testing at home. Also, in moving the antennae, you may have damaged they wire or the connections or effected the SWR. Good luck!! Dave
  22. Well, I have a sync tool in SLC - I just saved you 70 miles!! Let me know if I can help but it sounds like you're almost there. Dave
  23. Is that the place where it crosses State Street?
  24. One of the dealers that received "the letter" from Chysler has decided that they are going to fight it in court. I hope more dealers decide to join them. Dave
  25. He must be having a great time. The weather was a little ugly on Tuesday evening/Wednesday Morn but other than that, he must be riding and kickin' his heals up and enjoying the mountains. I hope he's having a fantastic vacation!! Dave
