I do not think those are made to come off, the parts catlog on line shows them with the pipe as an assembly and does not break it down and give seperate part numbers for the heat shields and the pipes. If I recall correctly when I put a full set of Bubs on my 98 Royal Star Tour Classic the pipes and heat shields came off together, I suspect the Ventue is the same. I just went out and looked at mine, I think they are spot welded to a bracket that is welded to the pipes. I could be wrong, I have been wrong before. What are you doing that you need that shield off? Maybe there is another approach to what ever it is you are doing.

What's the function of these covers?
M61A1MECH replied to jryan's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
What you is correct. The covers are just for dress, no real function that I am aware of, but the swoop and the rail have some function. According to the Yamaha tech I spoke with at Bikeweek in Daytona a few years back the swoop on the left rear is to help divert gosline away from the motor in case of a fuel spill from the gas cap. The rail is supposed to stay a bit cooler and offer a smaller surface area than the cover and act to keep you from putting your leg right on to the cover when it is hot. So when he got done explaining all that to me, I asked him to look at the factory set up display bike and explain why that bike had the swoop on the right side and the rail on the left?? He got a little red in face and promised to have it corrected. -
John T I know nothing about Gen 1 Ventures , but there was a post here on the forums the other day where someone just found out there was a MUTE button on his Gen 1, said he had been putting up with low volume for a long time, when he hit the mute button it UN MUTED the radio and nearly made him death. Maybe that is your issue, maybe you bumped the mute button on your ride? Just a thought.

Who ever picked up one or more of the auxillary tail light harnesses for a TOUR DELUXE , that I sent up to Don for Maint Day please contact me at stevemarilyn@hotmail.com or 386-314-6945. I need to recall the TOUR DELUXE harnesses, due to a major brain fade on my part I have mis pinned the the connectors, they will still work, but the color codes and functions are not correct on the wiring diagram. If you will contact me I will arrange for a replacement unit to be sent to you. This does NOT affect any Venture harnesses only the TOUR DELUXE.

Oh I remember those, I spent 4 years working in Saudi Arabia 1982 to 1986 , saw more than a few of those. Not much fun and a lot of cleaning up after.

highway bars
M61A1MECH replied to jkeyes1's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
As far as after market crash bars you are probably limited to Lindby ($350.0) or Barons ($180.00) if they have them in stock. I had a 98 Tour Classic and fitted it with Kuryaken long horns that did well for the 9 years I owned the bike. But them nothing from Kuryaken is considered "affordable" they make a good product and charge accordingly. -
@#$%&*!! back rest
M61A1MECH replied to farm1810's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
You could try something like this http://www.mcmaster.com/#vibration-damping-sandwich-mounts/=htfyuz If you need them to seal to the tour pack you may need an additional rubber washer or gasket to seal as these appear to have metal faces on them. -
Sarge46 Did you ever figure out what you needed? If you PM me at stevemarilyn@hotmail.com with a picture of the V-star conector I can quote all three harnesses with postage, if you are still interested.

Jeff Do you drill a hole in those for a lanyard? I have a plastic pab I use for hot asphalt parking lots. Has astring on it, I keep it in mt tank mounted pouch, that way I can get iit out and lower it into position with out getting off the bike and with the string tied onto the left grip I am unlikely to ride off and leave it on the parking lot.

Aux brake and tail light harnesses at maint day
M61A1MECH replied to M61A1MECH's topic in Watering Hole
Well as they say the best laid plans of mice and men, sometime do not work out. I have shipped to Don 7 harnesses, 6 that fit the Tour Deluxe and 1 that fits a Venture. I have asked Don to hold the 1 Venture harness for eusa1 and 1 of the Tour Deluxw harnesses for Joe ( star 4772 ). I expected a shipment of parts on Tuesday and they still ( now Wednesday) have not arrived, so there is little hope of getting any more Venture harnesses to Don's in time. At least you will be able to see the harness if you are interested I will be ale to ship as soon as I have parts available. Sorry to dissappoint but nothing I can do at this point, have great time at MD. -

That is how I did mine about 2 weeks ago, except I removed the 1157 filament bulbs and went with LEDs, used the type that have a rotating head on them, works fine. See link below. Only paided $25.00 for the light bar so figured I could spend a little more on the LEDs, plus I moved my flasher out of the tail light housing and up under the seat, now my strip light under the trunk,my brakelight, my IOWA 80 strips beside my saddle bags, backoff license plate light and my Harely lights flash when I hit the brakes. If somebody rear ends me, they clearly have their head up and locked. http://www.superbrightleds.com/cgi-bin/store/index.cgi?action=DispPage&Page2Disp=%2Fspecs%2FBA15-ARA.htm#photos I think you have some other problem.

Maintenance intervals (oil changes) will depend on whether you are running regular oil or synthetic oil. Regular oil: Change oil and filter about every 3,000 to 4000 miles. Synthetic oil: (what I do others mysuggest diferntly) change the filter every 3000 miles and change the oil every 6000 miles. Do not over fill the crank case, properlevel isjustbelow the half way point in the sight window with the bike standing straight up. Rearend fluid is changed every 16,000 miles. Coolant is changed every 26,000 miles or every 2 two years. See the tech section on this web site for a clever way to get the fluid out of the engine cavities with out making a mess. Valves are shim and bucket type, no tappets to adjust, you must have a special tool to compress the springs and a set of shims on hand to swap out as required to get the proper clearance. Copies of the ownwer's manual are available from the Yamaha web site.

Sarge, I have sold 4 or 5 harneses to folks on Canada, for a package that contains 1 harness (8" with 8" tags) the shipping and handling increases by $1.30 US. I am not sure what the shipping would be on a package with multplle harnesses, but I am sure it is not all that much additional postage. Tell me what you need, ( lengths and tags or no tags) also if you can tell me what the bike year and model are that will help. Because Yamaha uses the two different connectors it would also be very informative to me if you could send pictures of the connectors so I can verify them and make sure I get you the correct style.

As many of you already know I started making an auxiliary harness for the 2nd Gen Royal Star Ventures a few months ago. These plug in between the connectors under the seat that connect the main harness to the fender harness and allow you to easily make connections to the taillight, brake light and turn signal circuits for adding more lights or attaching to a trailer harness. I am happy to announce that with the help of some folks here and also over on Delphi that I can now expand the offering to include 1996 to 2001 original Royal Stars, 2005 and up Tour Deluxe, V-Stars and Road Stars. I was finally able to obtain the second style connector used by Yamaha. You can see a photo of the basic RS Venture harness in the Second Gen Parts Classified section. I am sorry to say that I still have not found the connectors for the GEN I Ventures and Venture Royales, but I am still looking. Thanks again to all that have purchased harnesses already and for all of the positive feed back I have received on them. Please do ride safe.

As far as Yamaha Road Side assistance, all they are going to do is get you a tow to the nearest repair shop. If they happen to be closed I am not sure what happens then, probably you would need to work something out with the tow operator. If you are X miles from home they will pay for trip interuption, but there is no guarentee that they will find you a shop that is open, only to the closest shop. On weekends most Harley dealers are open, it is always a crap shoot as to whether they will work on a metric bike or not, some will, many will not.

Wody If you have not already tapped into the bike's harness please consider my auxilary harness with the tag wires, see my ad in the classified section.
