Spark plugs. Do I remove the tank?
M61A1MECH replied to BigLenny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I all ways pull the tank completely off. There is one electrical connection and a rubber vent hose under the plastic cowl that is around the ignition switch. Make sure you turn the petcock to off before you pull the fuel line, (do not ask ). -
Spark plugs. Do I remove the tank?
M61A1MECH replied to BigLenny's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
I always pull the tank just to be sure I do not ding it with a tool. On my Venture I pull the front dog bone struts also, those I pull one at a time just to be sure the motor does not shift, I am not sure if it would with both dog bones out or not, but why take the chance, I can only work on one plug at a time so there is no reason to have both off at the same time. -
I have not heard any reports of the fan brackets breaking on the Ventures, but it was pretty common on the first edition Royal Stars. You may want to make sure the support brackets are intact.

The bleeder is under a cover on the left side, below the faux fin under a rubber flap, unless you have the chrome after market cover installed.

I just had mine done by the dealer in Daytona Beach, cost just s bit over $400.00. So if you are getting it for less than that you are geting a deal.
-
On the Yamaha web page you can search for dealers by location , they publish their hours and contact information. I see a few that are open on Sundays, make sure you get a gasket for the cover also, you are going to need that. Here is a llink that may work. http://www.starmotorcycles.com/star/dealers/locator.aspx?ls=star#Motorcycles|Cadillac, MI||

These are for second GENs , I can not find the connectors for the first GENs, if the ones you saw were at Don's MD this year, those were mine and they were for second GENs. Like I said to previous poster, send me your mailing address and I will send you a harness on approval, shipping to Canada is a bit more than inside the US.
-
Send me a PM with your mailing address and I will send you a harness on approval. After you get the harness and are sure it is what you want and works as needed for your application send me a check, money order or cash to the address on the invoice that comes with the harness. I can put one in the mail today.

When you get to connecting the wire harness take a look at at this listing in the classified section. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4200&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-royal-star-venture&cat=35

I am sure that all it needs is to reshim the needles, but his last post said: The bike is set to run lean from the factory with paper filters, if you change to filters like K&N that flow more air, the bike is going to be even more lean, some something has to be done to the bike or the paper filters need to go back in to get it back to the factory set up, well that is how I see it any ways. Unless the filters are not oiled properly I am not sure what else could be done. Reshimming the needles is not a big deal and only takes about 30 minutes.

Yes talk to Carl, but do not let him touch it, because the muffler will fall off. :-)

Rear axle spacer left off by stealer
M61A1MECH replied to maineventurerider's topic in Watering Hole
Ken, I agree with Carl, but if you are convinced that the spacer was there I would certianly press them to return it or replace it. I am curious which of the two local metric dealers you went to? The one there in Deland I do not believe they are a Yamaha motorcycle dealer or service center, only Yamaha watercraft, they do sell other metric motorcycles, the other one in Sanford is a Yamaha motorcycle dealer, with a good reputation. I normally only go to dealres that are certified on Yamaha ,motorcycles when I need work done that I am not comfortable doing my self. If you need a good Yamaha service provider that is a bit farther away I would recomend the one in Daytona Beach, they have always done great work on my Venture. Good luck getting this resolved. -
Fuel filter is under the seat on the left side of the battery box. It is a fair PIA to get to. It is held in by a rubber strap that is hooked on to a metal tab. Still have my eyebrows, I have read where folks have used fishing line or dental floss to get between the fairing and the eyebrow, just saw thru the double sided adhesive, and the remove any left over glue and wax the the affected area.

I had a similar experience when I put K&Ns on my 07, but I also opened up the air boxes at the same time, I had to reshim the diaphram needles, aded one shim to each diaphram and that cured it. See this thread in the tech section, about half way down and you can see what I am talking about on the shims.

Glad you are OK, had nearly the same happen to me with a Turkey Buzzard a few months back, bird flew up from right side shoulder and passed between me and the windshield, had to duck to miss him. If Marilyn had been on the back it would haven taken her out for sure.

Marilyn and I finally got back to Florida last night. Hit a bad storm in Morgantown, WVA and then found out there was a big biker event going on so there were no rooms available. Had to motor down the road in the storm to find a room outside of town. We really enjoyed meeting and riding with eveyone, had a great time.

Caution Caution Caution - Locktite is DANGEROUS around Plastic!!!
M61A1MECH replied to V7Goose's topic in Watering Hole
We have this problem where I work, we use very high grade industrial plastics like Ultem and Delrin, they are much more robust than ABS and they are attached by the locktite products that are designed for active metals. Locktite does make a plastic safe product that we use on our products is basically superglue, I have no idea is it compatible with ABS or not. -
I just went to HOME DEPOT and baought a lenght of heavy chain and a good master lock, run the chain thru the spokes on one of the wheels and the around the tongue of the trailer and secure it with the master lock. I can also use the chain to secure the trailer to a post or tre if I like. I hve been hauling a trailer for aboy 10 years and never had anyone mess with mine. Locks only keep honest people honest, if some dishonest person wants your trailer or what is in it they find a way to get it. On another note, if you are going to ger a trailer , check out my ad for an auxillary harness, it will make the hook up to the trailer harness a lot easier.

Well I am not sure if they have the wrong picture or just do not know what they have. http://www.cycletrader.com/listing/2007-YAMAHA-Royal-Star-103849674

I have that same set up on my Venture , keep my clip on sunglases and a plastic disk on a string for to put under the kick stand on soft parking lots , never had any isues getting any thing out of it. If you have problems reaching something, just take the pouch off and pour out what you want and then put it back on, takes 2 seconds, it is a quick remove unit after all.
