  1. This model has the ignition switch on the left hand side infront of the tank and directly behind the radiator. Is that correct? If it is then, they are known to be troublesome, the heat from the radiator causes them to die early. Normally the failure first occurs when the bike is hot, it can die on you as you are riding along , but more often they just refuse to start after being parked for a short time. I know this is not what you have described , but I would suspect the ignition switch as the most likely culprit. Sometimes just turning the igniton switch on and off several times will fix the immediate issue of not starting, it tends to knock some of the crud off the contacts so you get the faulty circuits connected again. This is short lived and the issue will reappear if you do not replace or bypass the ignition switch. Yamaha did recognize the issue at one point and has upgraded the switch with a heavier duty one, if there is any way to determine if the ignition switch has been changed previously that could also help to understand if this is the issue. Good luck.
  2. Eck, the rubber hose idea sounds good, but i would cautionn anyone that is not using a threaded fastener of some type to remember that fact if for any rason you find your self trailing your Venture. Seats that were not properly fastened down have ben known to fly off when on a trailer at highway speeds, when the third nut :whistling:is sitting on the seat that is never a problem. Just a reminder, because Ventures are so seldom on trailers it rarely comes to mind.
  3. Just left usedcyclessales a PM, if you are close to Daytona I am willingto let you borrow my Craftsman lift and Carbon One adapter with legs. It is sitting in my garage unused most of time, might as well get some use by someone. Call me at the number in the PM or on my profile, maybe we can work something out to get the jack and adapter to you.
  4. On page 2-22 of th emaint manual there is a general torque spec table, if yoou know what size the bolts are you can use that table.
  5. Private message sent with install instructions also attached in PDF format. I think the install instructions are also available over on the Venturers website.
  6. As stated previously, carb sych on the Venture is pretty simple and only takes about 15 minutes, provided you have a 4 column Morgan Carbtune, otherwise you will be moving the Carbtune around as you do it. As far as performance mods , yes there are pipes available, Bubs makes a full header to muffler system, but they are not always available right away, Bub will not make a production run until they have a certain minimum number of orders booked so the wait for a complete system could be quite long. Many of us have changed out just the muffler portion with slip ons, the performance increase is minimal at best, but it does improve the sound if you like a bit louder exhaust tone. Changing to K&N air filters offers some additional performance as does the install of an after market ignition system like the DYNA 3K. Overall the best mod for changing the overall performance is probably the one where you swap out the read end with a V-max read end. It does not increase the engine horsepower output, but it does change how the bike pulls and performs overall. The factory stock rear end is geared very high for long range cruising comfort at low rpms, the V-max rear end is made for quickness and speed and takes advantage of the engines high rpm power band better. I have not done that particular mod (yet) but the feedback form all the various threads here and other forums is always positive. Try one you will like it.
  7. They normally come out in the April-May and August -September time frames. 27 is a pretty boring ride, 4 lane all the way and when you get further north near Clermont there are lots of old folks and their parents around there you really need to watch them close.
  8. Change the ingition module to a DYNA 3K.
  9. As you come thru the Daytona / Edgewater area you will be passing right by me, glad to take some time to say hi, depending day and time. My contact info is in my profile, call me if you like.
  10. Hey Walt When you get the tool let me know, I will let you do mine after you practice on your's.
  11. Excess oil in the air box is normally associated with over filled crank case. Where have you been keeping the oil level at? Who does your oil changes, are yo sure they are not over filling the crank case? The oil level should just at or a hair under the line on the window when the bike is stood up straight.
  12. The link below to Web Bike worl says that Michelin has announced effective today that the new CommanderIIs have been released. http://www.webbikeworld.com/motorcycle-news/2012/michelin-commander-tires.htm Lets hope they are as good as the originals and as good as the press release says they are.
  13. Passed a 2000 Millennium model about 1:30 PM , he was headed west on County road 442 while I was headed east. Anybody here? If you ae local I would like to meet you maybe for a ride.
  14. Check this out. http://www.wimp.com/buildit/
  15. Are you talking about the "smoothing condensor" that is shown inside of the fairing? See attacment for clarification. If that is the one I cannot say I have seen it or looked for it when I have split the fairing, but with the the mess of wires, cables and connectors in there it could be easy to miss that is for sure. If that is not the one you are talking about a screen shot or parts list reference could be helpful for others to locate it.
  16. While on a ride today I had a close encounter with a Turkey Buzzrd, the silly thing took off as I was approaching and flew back across the road. Managed to go between the windshield and me, his wing was right in front of my face , had to duck to miss him, good thing I did not have a passenger, because they would have collected the bird for sure. My buddy riding behind me said it was so close he thought I had hit the bird, but we both survived to talk about it.
  17. Watch this video from Russia. http://www.wimp.com/inrussia/ I would be changing my pants.
  18. Good dea we should get together one day for a ride.
  19. Doug My Kromewerks came with clamps supplied, I am not sure what the step clamps are exactly. Keep us posted on how you make out.
  20. Doug, Could be if the slip ons are used instead of new , they were clamped onto pipes previously and maybe the inner diameter is closed up a bit from that, would not be all that noticable. If that is the case the expander idea would work, any decent muffler shop should have one. On the brackets see below for a copy past I saved from a few month ago, this should work. I am only a few hours away, let me know if it would help for me to come down on the weekend and take a look. Krome Werks will sell the brackets that are used to mount their mufflers to the Venture / RSTD. Their mufflers were designed originally for the Road King so they should be a perfect fit for your pipes and bike. Below is the email I received form Krome Werks you will need: 1 each 680855, bracket left 1 each 680856, bracket right 2 each 2099801, nut plate 680855 $10.00 680856 $10.00 2099801 $3.00 Prices are less shipping (UPS ground is standard.) We accept Visa, MasterCard or Discover. To order, call Monday through Thursday 9-6 central. Customer Service Khrome Werks div. D.S. Manufacturing, Inc. 21. Doug, This was a lone rider, no GW with him and definitely not a Midnight.
  22. Saturday 10 Dec 201 about 1:30 PM I passed a Venture, I believe it was a 99, going west on County Road 42 in Lake County just outside of Altoona. I was heading east on my Blue/Black 07. Was it anyone on here?
  23. The configuration of the coils on the original Royal Stars are the same as the Venture, the caps can be removed from the wires, but the wires are molded into the coil.
  24. but I think I like them. I decided to go with the 7 inch lights instead of the 11 inch ones. There are not many attach points on the side rails so I decided to use the shorter lights to keep the cantilever effect to a minimum because I only used one attach point. Right now the inside ones are set up as brake lights (red), the out board ones are set for turn signals (amber), as soon as the divider circuits arrive I set them up as dual intensity for running / brake / turn.
  25. I prefer Nikons also, I have the D60, but I think it was well north of the $500.00 mark, but Nikon has SLR COOLPICS that should be under $500.00.
