  1. Gary Have you tried to unscrew the stem? To me it looks like one solid piece that is machined from billet, but is best guess. If you can not get a firm answer from anyone and you can afford the time in your project, send them to me and I will x-ray them at work and find out if it one piece construction or two pieces screwed together.
  2. Had similar weather yesterday, did short a lunch run with the group I ride with, only about 400 miles round trip, criss crossing across the state and back home. Glad I live in Florida.
  3. First let me say welcome to the forum, check out the technical pages for suggestions on rear lighting and the marshall mod for antennas. You asked The leveling links are installed in place of the factory OEM links. I would recomend going with the leveling links, they do improve the slow speed handling. Also check to see if the previous owner adjusted to triple tree down to lower the front end, the top of the triple tree clamp should be just about even with the top of the tubes. Here is alink to Dennis Kirk, they sell the pumps. https://www.denniskirk.com/progressive-suspension/pocket-pump-with-air-gauge.p28234.prd/28234.sku You asked Yes purchase a manual pump that has a zero loose valve, never use an air compressor for the front forks or the rear shock. The parts department of your local shop or any Harley shop should be able to supply a suitable pump(s) I have two, one low pressure for the front forks, they should never have more than 7 psi and one higher pressure one that I use for the rear shock and the air shock on my Bustec trailer.
  4. My most memerable Christmas was 1981, we had just moved to Lakeland, and had planned to travel up to Brooksville to celebrate with the rest of the family after my daughter (2) had opened her presents. Well she woke up and was as sick as any little kid could ever be, so it was clear to us right away that we would not be able to travel the 70 odd miles and clebrate with the rest of the family. We called to let everyone know and then pondered what we would do for Christmas dinner. Well about an hour and a half later the front door bell rings , and there is the rest of the family with presents and dinner , half cooked turkey and all, in hand. So we put the food back on the stove and turkey in the oven, opened presents and had a great day.
  5. You should drain it when ever you change coolant, which one every 2 years or 26,000 miles. Normally you would drain the water pump after the rest of the ststem is drained, there is not much in there after the system is drained.

  8. Wayne Also check this tech note from Yamaha, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=62016 it does not speak directly to your problem, but does a lot of good info.
  9. Thanks for the post and the work you do, we visited Turpine Creek back in 2001 and were very impressed with the work they were doing. I am always amazed that people keep big cats , often as pets. Have you contacted big cat rescue inn Tampa FL? They may be able to help. http://bigcatrescue.org/ There is also a place in Shapes just south of me called Central Florida Animal Rescue , http://www.cflar.org/, maybe they could help. Also a place called Endangered Animal rescue Sanctuary in central florida not far from Orlando, http://www.earsinc.net/index.html Chances are you and your organization are already aware of these places , but in case your not, maybe they can help.
  10. When you are adjusting the volume for the CB are you certain the controller has the CB selected? The controller will set the radio and the CB to different volumes, if you are in one of the audio mods it will noy affect the CB volume even if the CB is on. You have to push the CB button to toggle it to the CB side theh the volume control adjusts the CB volume an dthe audio volume stays where you left it. Well I see Freebird beat me to this subject while I was typing.
  11. The 2005 motor is not a direct replacement for the motor that came with the 1997 Royal Star. Anything 2005 and up will be the same as a Royal Star Venture motor reguardless if it came out of a 2005 Royal Star Venture or a 2005 Tour Deluxe. The New 2005 and up Tour Deluxe is nothing more than a stripped down Royal Star Venture. That being said, the Royal Star Venture motors (1999 to 2013) have been fitted into the original (1996 to 2001) standard type Royal Star frames. There is fellow over on the Delphi forums named Hank that did it some years ago, others have done it also. Takes some fiddiling around but it can be done. Check the Delphi forums for Royal Star or V-4 forums, and ask around about the engine swap.
  12. What some people won't do.
  13. Larry I PMed you from one of the Delphi forums, if you would please send me the requested information.
  14. Now this is funny I don't care who you are.
  15. Man I feel your pain, it is down to 73 degrees here , may have to stop riding soon, have to put the bike up if it is below 72, just not worth riding in this cold weather.
  16. I can try, Jeff.
  17. Joe, Do you recall having any issues with the colors not matching the instructions? Can you lend any additional help or instructions for me to pass along to try and help. Photos maybe? Flying fool, I have recommended to him to come over and check out the forum at least twice, but I do n ot think he has done so. I enclose a wiring schematic with all the harnesses I send out so he will have that if you happen to lend him a hand. I will find out if he wants me to pass his phone number on to you, then maybe you two can get together and chat a bit. thanks for the help.
  18. I am hoping that the fellow that has the converter is or will be doing just as you suggest in calling Hopkins. I will confirm that with him next we speak. You are correct the Hopkins converter should have 6 wires , the sixth being the large red wire that goes to the positive terminal on the battery to power the isolator, I was purposely avoiding talking about that to try and focus on the 5 wires that are related to the signal systems. Unforunuatly the fellow with the converter is in Wisconsin and I am in Florida, so I have not actually seen his set up yet. Anybody near North Praraie , WI that coould maybe help this fellow out? thanks for the feed back, good points.
  19. They do, the problem is the wire colors he reported to me that he has on his adapter do not match what Hopkins has listed in their instruction sheet. He tells me his Hopkins has: black, blue, yellow, brown, and turquoise wires The colors that Hopkins lists on their sheet I found on line are white, brown, yellow, red and green. Some match (yellow and brown, maybe turquoise could be green). Maybe his black = white = ground Maybe his red = Yellow = brake That would be my guess , I was hoping some one here had actually used this specific adapter and could tell us what they used. If his harness matched the instruction sheet, I found , it would hook up as shown below, but I have no way to know what the functions are for his colors, I would guess the colors he has that match the instructions are for the same functions that are on the Hopkins instructions, but hat would be a guess. Hoppy Bike Function White Black Ground Brown Blue Tail light Yellow Brown Left turn Red Yellow Brake Green Green Right turn
  20. Playboy, Thanks. But the pictures I have seen on this model the functions are not marked on the out side of the other convertors. ?? I have found a couple folks over om the Delphi trailer forum that used this model on a Venture , but the posts are 4 to 6 years old, so I did not bother to try and contact anyone yet.
  21. One of my harness customers found a video on YOU TUBE that recommended using the Hopkins-46255-Power-Taillight-Converter for connecting a 4 pin trailer harness to the 5 wire 2nd Gen Venture system, I reviewed the video and what info I could find on that converter and recommended that he purchase that unit as it should work. He has the Hoppy now but the color codes on his Hoppy do not match what the instruction sheet I found on line. I am sending him a harness in the morning, but I not able to help him determine which wires on the Hoppy connect to which wires on the harness. If the colors matched the instructions it would be easy, but his colors are different. Has any one else used the Hoppy 46255 on a 2nd Gen? Any help is appreciated.
  22. A fellow over on the STAR forums is moving and clearing out items he does not want to move, he posted the note below. "I have a stock seat for a 1999 RSV. Excellent shape, came off bike shortly after buying the bike and stored since then. Also have stock seat to 2004 Road Star Silverado. It was removed almost immediately after buying the bike. Both are free to anyone needing them. PLese let me know if you have a home for them, hate to put them in the land fill. " Paul Kinas Here is a ink to his post on STAR's web site if your are interested and not a member of STAR, I would be happy to pass it along to him. http://www.startouring.org/forum/default.aspx?f=12&m=140454
