A bit on the high side, but looks perfect except for one scratch, but you are going to repaint any ways. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Yamaha-Royal-Star-Tank-Fits-1997-1998-Very-Good-/181132256260?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&hash=item2a2c52e404&vxp=mtr

This would be just perfect for those situations, just fit the bike with a couple of mercury switches that trip the Trunk Monkey if the bike gets pushed over. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8avOiTUcD4Y]Trunk Monkey Compilation - YouTube[/ame]

Here is my go to list when looking for LEDs. If you are changing out to LEDs make sure the LEDs point rear ward or forward (depending on location on the bike of course) if they are pointing to the side of the housing almost no light will exit the lens , as LEDs are very uni-directional. If you do not use load equalizers on the turn signals, they will blink very fast. No adjustments needed for brake or runing lights. http://www.wixtools.com/html/motorcycle_.html http://www.customdynamics.com/motorcycle_lights.htm http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/ http://www.radiantz.com/ http://www.autolumination.com/ http://www.ledtronics.com/Products/ProductsDetails.aspx?WP=1179#1157 http://www.signaldynamics.com/index.php/products/led-lighting?page=shop.browse&category_id=52&vmcchk=1 http://www.oznium.com/motorcycle-led-lighting -

I had an issue on my 98 Tc some years ago that was similar, one side would blink faster, like it had a bad bulb, but both front and rear lights were blinking. Turned out that the front bulb was actualy bad on the blinker filiment, but some how the blinker circuit was was back feeding to the run light filemant causing it to blink. The resistance for the run filiment must have been different enough to cause a change in how fast the flasher relay actuated. Once I changed the bulb all was good. So if you are seeing both lights flash ata higher rate, change the front bulb and see what happens, I think in my trouble shooting process I swapped my left and right bulbs just to see if if the problem would follow the bulb or stay with on the one side. When followed the bulb Iknew where the problem was. Never really pondered the actual reason why it happened after I fixed it with a new bulb, but did wonder if it was "feature" that Yamaha had designed in so you would not lose turn signal function, but would alert yuo to something being wrong. Keep us posted on what you find. -
Yes that one been going around, hey disguise it to look like a real message from DHL. DHL is actually requesting if you get one of these to let them know.

Well I built the harness, using the Tow Ready 119177, I used the circuit that is designated for and normally used on that harness for the back up lights to be the brake light circuit and did not use the red wire. I made adapter harnesses to convert the Venture plugs to Stratoliner plugs so I could connect it to my Venture and do an ops check. Eveything worked fine. The one thing I do n ot like is the isolator is huge, it measures 2.6" x 2.5" x 1.3", I was afraid there would be no p;ace to stash it on the owners Stratoliner, but he tells me he can find a place, so as soon as I finish installing the chafe guard on the main harness off it goes.

Take look at my aux harness, it may be helpful on yout project. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4200&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-royal-star-venture&cat=35 -
Barry I have a carb tune I can help you with a carb synch, never tore into the carbs or valves on this bike, but can help if you want to pull the air boxes and check / change the filters, oil change, fuel filter change. The fuel gauge is a little iffy, mine has never been consistant as to when the low fuel light or coundown meter comes on. I use it as a reminder, and usally wait until it starts to stumble and go to reserve, there you have about .75 gallon left, which should get you another 30 miles down the road if you need to go that far. I find I need a break to stretch before I get really low on fuel, and normally gas up during a stretch break.

Barry, glad to hesr you got home safe, rain sucks, but I bet it was not cold. What do you think of the Venture now after your trip? did you get the risers and grip puppies on before you left?

Try this link, woody has been re-doing Venture seats for while maybe he can help. www.Pillowtopseatcompany.com

Mike I had the same think happen to the petcock on my 98 Royal, I just tapped mine back in, I do not remember it leaking, but it would pull out when ever I needed to take the hose off, back in the day, you could buy the petcock for about $35.00 as I recall, but I see they are over $60.00 at Yamaha Sports Plaza. You could try to expand the end of it a bit with a smooth round madrel and then pesss it in maybe with some fuel resistant adhesive applied to the sides of the tube. One thing to remember when ever you are taking any rubber hose off of a fitting, twist it back and forth before tying to pull it off, that will normally break it loose so it can be removed easy. Your descripton of the oil soaked foam gasket is a bit skecthy, but I think what you are describing is the foam gasket that goes on the cross over plenum on the air boxes, see item 22 in this link http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f8af8700209bc794e6c/intake They do not show the little Mickey Mouse foam gaskets in the parts break down so they may come installed on the plenum. The left side being the low side of the bike when parked on the side stand always gets the major portion of oil that collects in the sir boxes. The emmision system sucks oil fumes from the crank case into the intake system so the fumes will be burned with the fuel air mixture in the cyclinders to reduce the emmissons from the bike, some of those fume condense back into oil before they are sucked thru the engine and then cling to the inside of the air box. If the bike has ever been operated with the crankcase overfilled, that is oil above the line on the sight glass, there will be a good bit of oil in the left air box region, both thses could be why the gasket got oil soaked. I found the same condition on my 07 this past week when I had the fuel tank off to replace the fuel sensor. The foam gasket just crumbled when I touched it. I am not sure this is a good idea, but it was the only one I could come up with at the time. Not having any sitable foam to cut up and make a gasket, I took some graphite plumber's rope, about 1/8" diameter and put two wraps around where the foam was and fixed the air box and plenum back in place. The grapite rope is soft and pliable enough that you can "mold" it into shape and stuff up the gap. I am just not sure how robust it is, it may not take to the heat and oil fumes, I will check it in a few weeks after I have some time to do some serious riding, then I should know if it is suitable. Hope this helps

All non Venture Royal Star motors from 96 to 01 are direct swap for your set up, The Venture motors can be installed into a Royal frame but as stated it takes a fair amount of work. All of the models that Pofarm listed will have motors that are direct replacement for your 96.

I am needing to do a complete harness build for a fellow, and I came across this isolator harness all built into one, at a good price. Trying to find out how long the wires are between the connector and the isolator block, waiting for a return email. So I wanted to see if anyone has tried using this set up on a bike before. http://ecustomhitch.com/i-8202113-tow-ready-119177-modulite-protector.html Thanks

Joe Thanks,I just heard back from the fellow, he had crossed some wires in his aux harness, it is all fixed now, he is good to go.

I have talking via the Delphi V-star forum with a guy form Duck Ditch , SC, that has a 1300 V-star, he has made an aux harness like the ones I make, for the lights on a tour pack he just installed. He is having trouble getting it all to work and I was wondering if there is anyone near him that could try to help him sort it out? I do not know the guy , I just know he rides a motorcycle and is struggling with what should be a simple install, and I am hoping that someone in this generous family we have here could maybe take a few minutes out of their schedule to help out a fellow rider. If you can, PM me and I will see about getting everyone in touch. Thanks

cs dexter, thanks for that I forgot the word not, I have corrected that . so much for typing when I should be sleeping.

I was getting coffee the other day and I hear one guy say to another guy. " You know at one time we had Bob Hope, Johhny Cash and Steve Jobs, but now in today's economy we have no jobs, no cash and no hope" Second guy says, "You are right, I hope nothing ever happens to Kevin Bacon!"

LEDs are typically not omni directional , in that they are brightest when viewed looking directly at the end and do not put out much light when viewing them from the side. With the way that Yamaha mounts they turn signals if you do not use LEDs that that are made so the ends of the LEDs are pointing direcetly front wards or rearwards then they will appear dim, because you are looking at the side of the LEDs. If you did not use a load equalizer on the turn signals they will blink fast with LEDs because the flasher speed is related to the current draw, less current (LEDs) blinks faster than more current (regular bulbs).

Try these I use them and really like them.

I have also resodered mine on occasion, I have also bought replacement parts here, http://www.wiringproducts.com/contents/en-us/d406.html
