Squidley, From the diagrams I got from from Gary the brake/tail and turns go thru the 13 pin connector on the models with the on board compressor along with a lot of other circuits. I am certianly no GEN I expert, if someone knows better than I am all ears. I want to get this right if it works out. Thanks for any help, photos are good also.

As many of you know I have been making auxillary brake / tail and turn signal harnesses for Royal Stars, Road Stars and Ventures for about a year now. Here is a link to one of my current products as reference for those that are not familar with my products. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4201&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-tour-deluxe&cat=35 I have been asked from time to time if I could make one for a GEN I Venture or Venture Royale., and sadley had to say no. All the time I have been looking for the connectors for all of that year and I am happy to say that I have just today found someone that can supply them to me. I do not have any pricing yet, but I do know that the minimum order will be a quanity of 100. Thanks to Dingy I know that some GEN Is use a 6 pin connector and others use a 13 pin connectors. I need to gauge the interest in these products before I commit a few hundred dollars to purchase raw materials. If you are interested in one of these harnesses for your GEN Iplease reply to this thread so I can gauge the interest. The 6 pin connectors fit GEN I's with no on board air compressors. The 13 pin connectors fit GEN I's with the on board air compressors. As soon as I can get pricing I will work up pricing for each of the assembles and post the price for each of them. Thanks

I have the same problem , I bought a set of no helmet head sets with the microphone and thought I could find a way to sneak the headsets under or below my half helmet, but nothing doing. I only use them on group rides so I just take the head set and hang it around my neck and then fix the mic up close to my mouth, listen to the CB thru the speakers, it works pretty well, does not look cool, but then I am way to old to worry about if I look cool or not.

CD Changer , where to connect it ?
M61A1MECH replied to AngryAmish's topic in GPS, Audio, Electronics
Depends on how you mount it, I have mine in the trunk, but did not get the factory mounting harware with mine, so I just fabbed an aluminum strap to hold it place, I wear half helmets and can still put two of them in the trunk if need be. Here is a shot of mine installed. -

Yes there is an open connector inside the fairing behind he cassette player. You will need to pull the seats and the tank to route the harness back to the trunk or saddle bag. -
Adding Rear Lighting ?

Here is a link for how to do it on the Venture, Could work for a Tour DeLuxe. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 Also here is a shameless plug for my product, you will not need it for the Harley Lights, but could be helpful if you are ading other additional lights. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4201&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-tour-deluxe&cat=35 -
Keep the venture or move on??? Please give honest feedback...
M61A1MECH replied to Barrycuda's topic in Watering Hole
Barry I had the same issue when I first got my 07, which was a real suprise to me because I never had that problem with my 98 Royal Star Tour Classic. I did exactly what many here have suggested, I got a set of GEN MAR risers and the pain went away immediatly, I also have a cramp buster on my throttle, that helps on long trips. If we can get hooked up at Leesburg I will let you see what a difference the risers make on my bike. Also you can try adjusting the handle bars as they are with out the risers to see if a different position helps , sometimes it is the angle that your arms and wrist are at when riding that cause the problem. -
If you really want to do some calculating, go over to the STAR touring and riding web site, find out how many members they have and multiply by $48.00 to see how much dough Alan C is putting in his pockets every year.

I do not have a SHOPSMITH, but do have a wood lathe and have done a bit of turning over the past few years, what you have is the grain essentially reversing on one side of the part as it is turned and you are getting tear out instead of cutting the wood. Sometimes a good sharpening of the cutting tool and a fairly deep cut will take care of it, but I have to admit I still struggle with it happening more often that I like. As far as the wobble, the wood will sometimes push away from the tool and create an out of round condition. For finishing my pieces I too resort to getting my work as smooth as I can then and then resorting to using a sanding sealer after I have applied the stain, sand down the sealed part until smooth, reapply stain to smooth out the look and then I apply a friction polish until I have a glass like finish. Some woods just turn better that others , some just refuse to be turned.

To adjust the the head light on the 2nd gens there is a knob on the left side of the fairng. No need to take any thing loose. Look to the left of the neck cover, should be a knob there.

Here is a copy of the self diagnosis page from the service manual, maybe this helps. The manual can be down loaded here from the publications section using this link http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=1828.

Same here, once I set a marker , leave and come back later the marker is gone. Is there a window zoom function that i missed, it is a little clumsy getting down to the street level, doable, but clumsy without a window zoom.

But where is the plug for the front cyclinder? You said the the plug was missing from the hole when you pulled the Fake fin? If the plug was missing when you pulled the fin where is it? Make certian that it is not stuck to the inside of the fake fin. There should be no way for that plug to come completly out of its hole when the fin is properly installed. So I am confused as to how it would be that you found it missing when youpulled the fin? As everyone else has said , a slight weeping from those plugs is very common.

Could be he did not pay attention to the alignment marks when reassembling, I am not sure what happens if you do that, but the manual is very specific about making sure all of the marks are aligned properly, I wonder if he did an upgrade to one with the coil spings in place of the flat leaf style the factory uses, they are known to lock up if you get them one tab out of location. Either way certianly sounds like a mistake when reassembling it, I would think it would be a fairly easy fix once you get it a part.

Don't turn on the fuel with the fuel pump removed.
M61A1MECH replied to etcswjoe's topic in Lessons Learned
When ever I am doing something "major" to the bike I take the key out of the ignition and pin it to a cork board I have in the garage, depending on what I am doing I sometimes put a note with it to remind me why the key is pinned to the board. Ganted that would not stop me from turning the petcock on is a fuel line was disconected some whe down stream, but if my bike is in the garage with the petcock turned off, there is real good reason and just the idea of turning the petcock back to on wil normally be enough to make me question why it was off in the first place But tha is just me, other ideas work just as well for other folks, trick is to do something out of the ordinary to spark the memory cells back awake and keep you from doing serious damage that cannot be undone. -
Did you install your own hitch or paid to have installed ?

M61A1MECH replied to AngryAmish's topic in Trailer Talk
AngryAmish I would be glad to help if you need it, most hitch set ups for the Ventures only require that you remove the spanner section that connects the left and right saddlebag supports and replace it with the hitch, mine is 4 bolts. I do have harnesses available, I would suggest using a isolator for the trailer, that will keep the added electrical off of the bike's harness, if the trailer has LEDs you could do without the isolator. Also if your trailer is wired for a four wire set up you will need a convertor to go from the blke's five wire system to the trailer's four wire system, both the isolator and the convertor can be found at Electrical Connection. http://www.electricalconnection.com/wire-harnesses/hrns-trailer.htm Call me or email me , my contact info is in my profile.
