  1. Here is a basic schematic to make the light bar into a run/brake/turn light bar. With the proper sized diodes this could schematic could also be used to convert a 5 wire system to a 4 wire system for those with trailers that use 4 wire systems.
  2. How long?
  3. Are you in Daytona ? I am only 25 miles away.
  4. I have the CD player, someone donated it to me right after I got the bike in 07, had to go out and research the cable, found one on Ebay I think for about $30.00. I installed mine in the trunk right up on the forward bulkhead, secured it with an aluminum strap I made and put the pockets from the trunk around it. I can still put two half helmets in the trunk if I want. To install the cable you need to split the fairing, remove the tank and both seats. It is a little tricky weaving the harness thru the frame and what not, but not a bad job.
  5. An 89 is not a Second Gen, that is to say it is not a Royal Star Venture. I don't know much about the GEN Is, but maybe what you mean is that it is a MKII, because I think the original GEN is are called MKIs. Somebody will correct me I am sure. Anyway, Use this link to see a history of the Venture on this site. http://www.venturerider.org/modules/history/index.php
  6. Welcome to the forum. I am a bit south of you down in Edgewater, just south of New Symrna Beach. Be happy to help with any questions you have, or if you need any help wrenching I be happy to help if I can.
  7. I can make you a plug and play harness that will plug into the harness under the seat so you do not have to cut any wires. Look for me under member vendors on the classified section. That is as long as it is not a GEN 1, but can do for GEN II Royal Star based bikes.
  8. Let us know what you find and what your fix is, always good to hear the solution to a problem, often it is different than what was suggested.
  9. Chances are the modulator that causes the flashing pattern has gone bad. It is probably located either under your seat or in the tail light assembly. It is likely to look something like this https://signaldynamics.com/index.php/products/brake-light-modules. Many , like the one I use have dip switches that allow you to set different patterns, maybe as simple as the circuit that controls that pattern has burned out and if you select a new pattern by changing the position of one or more dip switches you will again have flashing lights. Many of these types of modulators will not work with regular incandescent bulbs, they only work with LEDs, if by chance you added new lighting to the bike that could have caused the demise of your modulator.
  10. Here is a list of places that sell LEDs online, you should be able to find some that will work if you have to add it yourself, as long as you wire the new LEDs in parallel with the other lights you should not have any problems with adding as many LEDs as you need. http://www.wixtools.com/html/motorcycle_.html http://www.customdynamics.com/motorcycle_lights.htm http://www.superbrightleds.com/cat/tail-brake-turn/ http://www.radiantz.com/ http://www.autolumination.com/ http://www.ledtronics.com/Products/ProductsDetails.aspx?WP=1179#1157 http://www.signaldynamics.com/index.php/products/led-lighting?page=shop.browse&category_id=52&vmcchk=1 http://www.oznium.com/motorcycle-led-lighting http://www.tecniqinc.com/ http://www.iowa80.com/DirectionsWEB/webcart_category3.php?catid=LED
  11. I agree about not getting the best deal when you trade, but in this economy and in Florida trying to sell bikes is not that easy, as I said , much depends on how much he wants that GW and how fast he can sell his other bikes. Barry is the only one that can judge what his curent bikes are worth to him and what the GW is worth to him, at the end of the day if he is satisfied with the deal he makes, then he can be happy about that.
  12. Here is what I found on Kelly Blue Book (www.kbb.com). 2003 Venture; Trade in value = $4825.00, Retail Value = $6995.00 2000 Vulcan; 1500 FI Trade in value = $2010.00 , Retail = $2965.00 Total recomended trade total = $6835.00 for both bikes Total recommened Retail for both bikes = $9,960.00 The GW is the GL18HPNA model; Trade in value = $13275.00, Retail = $17395.00 The bike Barry is looking at is listed at $16,999.00 The deal is his bikes and $8,000.00 for the GW. So that means they are allowing $8,999.00 for his trade in, that is only $961.00 off the recomended retail value and $2164.00 over recommended trade in value, not bad in my book. The GW is only slighty below book retail value ($396.00), not great, but tolerable. Not sure it is the best deal you can get, but not sure it is the worst you will get either. If you could swing a grand out of the deal, they up the trade value and lower the sale price each by $500.00, so you walk out oweing $7,000.00 that could be OK. Much depends on how much you want the GW, also you should check on how much your insurance will go up on the GW, may be less than on two bikes, but I am sure the GWs are high on the insurance tables. That is my take on it , For What It Is Worth.
  13. I just received my LED light bar from http://www.ebay.com/itm/USA-MADE-Tec...item5655ef2e68, I replaced my original light bar that only did run and brake with this one now I have run, brake and turn signals in the same bar. I ran the brake and turn signal inputs thru a series of 4 diodes so I can get both turn and brake functions, much like wiring up a trailer that has four wires off a bike that has 5 wires. If you are interested I can send you the particulars on what I did to make it work, just post here or PM me.
  14. In my opinion (for what that is worth) the three top choices as far as sound quality goes are in no particular order are listed below. Vance and Hines monster ovals Bub slip ons (tips tend to flake) Krome Werks (has multiple tip options to select from) I am running Krome werks with turn outs and really like them, if I were to replace them I would most likely go with the Vance and Hines Monster ovals.
  15. The V-max swap is a lower geared rear end, you gain performance, the engine RPMs are increased in all gears. As high as 4th and 5th gear are on the Royal Star Venture and where the power band is on the V-4, I cannot imagine why anyone would want to lower the engine rpms at cruising speeds. I find my self lugging mine all to often if I am just tooling around and not paying attention to my speed and the gear, a higher geared rear end would, in my opinion, reduce the ridabilty of the bike to unacceptable levels.
  16. Maybe here, they have two color tape. http://beaverstripes.com/shop/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=35_93
  17. Not sure where the original poster got his V-max rear end , but here is the place that I believe most folks go to for the swap. http://rmsportmax.com/gateway.html
  18. Yes to some no to others. The second gens do have air in the front forks and rear shock. They do not have an onboard compressor system, you can only adjust the pressure manually , recomneded practice is to use a hand pump with a zero loss chuck on it. The factory recomended pressure for both front and rear systems is 0 psi, the max pressure for the front forks is 7 psi and the rear shock is 55 psi. The brakes are not linked, the front and rear are seperate systems.
  19. The volume of the shock is so small that any sort of electrical driven compressure is likely to put out to much volume and damage the shock. Plus typically electric air compressors do not come with zero los chucks, so when you disconnect the fitting from the stem you lose some pressure, The hand pump mentioned by Squidly is what you need. Same idea goes for the front forks, hand pump only with zero loss chuck.
  20. Here a link to one of the threads with pictures. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74562
  21. If you are slow like me you will have to watch this twice to see what he does. http://www.wimp.com/motorcyclistdeed/
  22. Try looking around here http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing, prety good bunch and knowledgeable, a few trailers for sale, maybe not close to you but a relay can sometimes be arrranged.
  23. That is a great price, the one I bought about 6 years ago did not have the turn signal function and cost $10.00 more than this one, and I have seen them as high as $59.00 on Ebay. It should fit, and there is tech section on mounting one either here or on the Delphi forum. If you decide to get it, check out my adds in the member section of the classifeds http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=35 one of these would help with the install. I may get one and swap out the one I have.
  24. That is a great story, I loved her character, great vanity plate also. Very cool.
