  1. Condor, I was thinking the same thing, I generally log onto the site 3 times a day, first thing in the AM, noon and after work, not long ago the average number of new posts between my log ins would about 25, sometimes upwards to 35, the past few weeks it is down to about 10 new posts and has been as few as 2 or 3 in an 4 to 6 hour period. I am hoping it is just a phase, but we are ending the riding season for many.
  2. Probably act similar to a MotoGuzzi, and want to roll to one side or the other , as you noted.
  3. It has been working as advertised for me all along, I use it every time I log on, another thing I do it hit the "new posts" button just before I am ready to log off, just in case it did not refresh while I was logged on and a new posting was added that I can not see, that way I do not miss as many as I did in the past.
  4. Bustec has a few on their used list, here is link. http://www.bushtec.com/default.asp?page=xPreOwnedInventory Also check out this Delphi forum, sometimes there trailers listed. http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing
  5. I use DRAFTSIGHT from Dassault the same folks tha make SOLIDWORKS, they offer a free down load of their 2D system that is nearly identical to AUTOCAD. http://www.3ds.com/products-services/draftsight/ When they took away all of the AUTOCAD licenses at work this what the IT guys us to use for 2D work if we were not drafters, designers or engineers with a need for 3D SOLIDWORKS. I use it at home also. The oly problem I had was one version did work the current video driver on my laptop, so I had to update the driver and it was all good.
  6. Thanks Keith and Jeff. I tweaked them again this morning, took her for a short test ride with a good deal of hard braking and they seem to be OK, I may be able to get a smidge more tight on them, but think I will wait and see. I am about half way thru the rear install right now, not nearly as much fun as I thought it would be, but gettin her done.
  7. Has anyone else had problems with getting the banjo joints on new SS brake lines to seal/seat. Installed a set on the front of my 07 last night and had problems with the banjo joints weeping a bit, double checked the torque, they seated just a bit more when I did. Dried them off , left the lever pulled back using a heavy duty wood working rubber band over night, and found them all wet again this morning. Just weeping a bit, not gushing, but brakes should not leak period. Anyone else have issues getting these to seat? The lines were supplied with new copper crush washers. What am I missing here, seems it should be straight forward, tighten and fill with fluid, bleed and go. Thanks for any input, have lines for the rear and the clutch, but not sure I want to do those untill I work out what is up with the fronts.
  8. Funny you should ask, a few weeks back when we had Biketoberfest here in Daytona, I purposely rode the Stratoliner Deluxe and the 1300 V-Star Deluxe to compare them to each other and to my Venture. Neither one compares to the Venture by any means, but I actually preferred the 1300 V-Star over the Stratoliner, the Strat has lots of grunt, but the 1300 just fit me better and really is no slouch. Not considering either of them at the moment, but if I needed to replace the Venture I could consider either of them.
  9. You only need load resistors for LEDs if you are replacing regular incandesent bulbs in the turn signals with LEDs. For tail lights and brake lights no load resistors sre needed. The load resistors are used to make the turn signals flash at the correct speed, LEDs take less current to operate than the incandesent, so they cause the flasher to operate faster that normal, the added resistance of the load resistors fools the flasher into thinking that the incandesent bulbs are installed, so they flash at the correct speed.
  10. I put LEDs in mine when I first mounted them and used this style, http://www.superbrightleds.com/moreinfo/tail-brake-turn/1157-led-bulb-dual-intensity-2-watt-adjustable-right-angle/816/
  11. Yep works now, looks like a nice day.
  12. The link takes you to an upload page at Photobucket where you have to log in, I think that is not what you wanted.
  13. Tom Got date and time in mind?
  14. There were some versions of the original Royal Stars that had 4 into 2 set ups, I know the Tour Classic and Tour DeLuxe from 1998 to 2001 had that set up for certian, not sure about previous year models, but many had 4 x 4 pipes. If his has 4 x 4 set up he has a lot of adjustments to make, one of which is a place to hang the mufflers on. If he has a 4 x 2 set up now he needs to understand that the mouting setup for hanging the mufflers under the bags is different between the original Royals and the Venture. Probably not a big deal to fab an adapter, but they are not ready to bolt on.
  15. Condor, Go to this tech article. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=3768 I am not sure what the real name is.
  16. If you have when was the last time you checked how secure they were? While washing the bike today I found my Harley tailights very loose. Took them off to investigate and found the two small bolts that secure the mount for the license plate holder were loose. Removed them and reinstalled with a bit of blue loctite, checked all of the other associated hardware while I was in there , good to go. So if you have not checked your Harley lights for a while, go out and give them a shake to make sure those parts are not teaching your Yamaha some bad habits.
  17. Yeah I remember way back in the 70's when I was in the Air Force, Stationed at Eglin AFB, if Fort Walton Beach. It was a Saturday afternoon I had one of the cars in some level of disrepair and of course needed it running again to report for duty on Monday, so I did not need any interuptions. The phone rings, wipe my hands go inside answer the phone, the voice on the other end asks "is so and so there", I politely say no and you may have the wrong number, to which I was informed that no she had dialed the correct number for the Eglin Yacht Club and demanded to speak to her husband so and so. After a bit of convincing she was persuaded that she had in fact possibly dialed the wrong number and hung up. So off I go diving back into my project and low and behold the phone rings again. So same drill wipe the hands go inside answer the phone and you guessed it, same lady, same question, same conversation, so this time I go one step further and actually look up the number for the yacht club and yes it was only one number different from mine. I give her the number and she is happy and hangs up. Back to the car I go and yep the phone rings again, this time when I answer it , I say "Good afternoon this is the Eglin Yatch Club how can I help you?" Don't you know it is the same lady asking for so and so. I very politely said "Just a moment I will have hime paged". Hold my hand over the mouth piece for an appropriate length of time and and tell her "I am sorry but he must not be here , no one answered the page." She was not happy but said thank you and hung up the phone. I went back to work and the phone never rang again the rest of the day. I can only image the ration of crap old so and so got when he came home from the Yatch Club.
  18. I think you would do well with some good clear coat from a rattle can. I picked up a Harley tail light assembly from a swap meet a couple years back. Had some pretty ugly surface rust on it, I worked it over with dremel with a brass brush wheel and some polishing compound, looked brand new when I was done, gave it a coat of clear from a rattle can and she still looks great. One thing, if you use the brass or stainless steel wire brushes from Dremel, make sure you wear good eye protection, because after a while those wires start to shed and they will take out an eye in a heart beat, and they are not magnetic so if you get one in the eye they will not be able to extract it using a magnet like they do for steel bits that end up in people's eyes.
  19. Not to rub salt in the wound, but Yamaha Sports Plaza on line price is $4.54, not sure what shipping would do to the end price per part.
  20. I rode the 1300 V-Sta Deluxe touring model today as well as the 1900 Stratoliner Deluxe. I still prefer the Venture over either one, but actually prefer the 1300 V-Star ove the 1900 Stratoliner. Not as much power as the as the 1900 Strat, but just semed to fit me better, both are a litle buzzy, but what can you expect from 2 V-Twin. Also rode the Victory Cross Country Tourer, nicer than I expected, still like the Yamaha products better. Keeping the Venture for the time being
  21. Technically not a freezeplug, but the hole with the rubber plug and threaded insert is a cooling system plug, yes. They tend to weep with age and will weep more in cooler weather than warmer weather. One trick I am sure you have seen posted is to shim it up with a dime or medium thickness washer, that presses the tapered pug further into the hole and makes it seal better. Eventually you will need to replace them. Oh , do not run the motor with the fins off, you will likely blow the plugs out and a considerable amount of coolant. The upper hole that is empty and has a slight rust stain below it, is a drain hole for the well the spark plug sits in, nothing to worry about there.
  22. Now that is funny, I don't care who you are. All he needed was to be holding and beer, and ask some to hold hold it while they watched.
  23. As I was doing my pre event scouting trip around Daytona today, I happened to pull up behind a brand new full dress Harley. The guy motions me to come up beside him, expecting he needs directions, or at worst he has some smart a** thing to say about the Venture. He leans over and says " I got one of those at home in the garage, wish I was on it instead of this thing, I bought this a month ago and it is the worst decision I ever made!" I just laughed, did not have the heart to rub it in, but love it.
  24. Just to be crystal clear here, there is no reserve tank, there is no line that can be pinched that would cause the reserve fuel to be unavailable. On the fuel petcock there are two pickup points, the in reserve position fuel enters in at a point that is lower in the tank than when it is in the on position. Both on and reserve pickup points have filter screens. It is possible for the reserve screen or passage to be blocked with debris or varnish, it is also possible and has been reported to have happened recently for the pick up screen on the on position to come loose and fall off in the tank. If this happens the on pick up point is below the reserve pickup point, so there is not fuel available to flow into the reserve pick up point. How much fuel the tank holds is different from what the stated volume of the tank is, there is a sizable air space in the tank to allow for expansion of the fuel when needed. So having said that, I agree that 4.3 gallons is less than I would expect it would take to fill the tank if it were below the reserve pick up point. That is about how much I normally put in if I have switched to reserve before stopping for fuel. Make sure you understand what they do to correct the issue, so you can have some confidence that you are not getting smoke blown up you anal orifice. If they say they had to replace a part, ask to see the old part. Good luck and keep us posted, inquiring minds want know.
  25. Yeah I hear ya, in FL, it is not if you will get wet, it is when and how wet will you get.
