  1. I think this is true and maybe some one with a bit more knowledge can chime in and agree or correct my bad. I am pretty sure these bike have what they call a waste spark, that is the coils fire twice during a complete 360 degree cycle, the first spark being for the combustion stroke to drive the piston down the second on the exhaust stroke to help burn any left over hydrocarbons before they exit the tail pipe. I would suspect that the second spark may intentionally be weaker that the primary spark, maybe what you are seeing is the secondary spark and you are not getting any primary spark. Again I may be totally wrong, I am working on memory here, so hopefully someone can chime in here and help.
  2. Did they ever work properly after the conversion? Do the leds point in the correct direction? Leds are not omni-directional, they only emit light in one direction and normally on very narrow angles. If you put a typical led replace bulb that is designed to point rearward into a stock Yamaha lollipop housing where the bulbs point to the side then there is almost no light going out through the lens. I am not familiar with what you trike conversion uses for turn signals, so this may not be he case, but thought is was worth offering as a possibility. Otherwise I would also say check for a bad ground.
  3. I have been following this thread on and off, I assume you did not receive a small metal tag with a series of numbers stamped in it when you purchased the bike. Typically that is the only record of the key code that Yamaha uses. Good luck.
  4. Have tried a new ignition module? Is your ignition module stock or DYNA 3K? I know you say you have checked the primary and secondary voltages, but maybe could be something goofy going on in the ignition module. There maybe someone on he forum that has swapped their stock one out for a DYNA and would be willing to loan you a stock one just for grins to check it out.
  5. Jonas, Very nice, looks good. Did you put something around the inside of the hole where the wires come thru so they do no chaf and cut the insulation? That "electro polysomething" is probably electropolishing it is a method of removing burrs and small hangy things that are often left on metal parts after working them such as cutting, drilling or tapping also improves the overall finish of the part, here is a link to wikipedia about it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electropolishing
  6. no picture that I can see.
  7. What sort of lights are you wanting to install? There is a connector set under the seat that connects the main harness to the fender harness for all of the rear lighting, tail, brake and turns. I make a "T" harness with break out tag wires for each function that goes in between those connectors, you can use it to wire in auxiliary lights for tail, brakes or turns or use it to connect up a trailer harness, all with out having to cut into you bike's wiring harness. If you go to the classified section and look under member vendors you can see my add for that harness and a new light bar I sell that also offers the break out tag wire option. Those circuits only work when the key is on. Hope this helps.
  8. Don, very sorry to hear of your issues, but very glad to hear that you are working them out and that you have called on the Lord to help and guide you. As many others have said, been there done that many times in the 25+ years I have been married to this great lady, if it were not for our faith in God we would have ended up very differently a long time ago, I applaud your open honest explaination and wish you both the very best.
  9. That kit is for a Royal Star standard (1996 to 2001) model years, not for the Venture, you would do well to ask them that specific question as to fitment for a Royal Star Venture before spending any money.
  10. without seeing the parts or having part numbers to research it will be hard to give any real help, as Eck said in a previous post, but if the quick release parts you have are for a Royal Star model, most likely they are for a 2005 to 2010 Royal Star Tour DeLuxe, that is the only Royal model that I aware of that had quick release parts. Maybe that helps a little bit.
  11. The manufacturer does have a web site, but they do not sell to the general public, they only sell to established buisness with tax number and such. I tried to buy from them direct before I started selling my plug and play light bar set ups, but had to go thru R&P Carriages on E-Bay, see the link in the previous reply. Here is a link to my ad on the classified section. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4943&title=run-2fbrake-2fturn-light-bar-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=35 Here is a link to the manufacturer of the light bar http://www.tecniqinc.com/
  12. I had a Utopia on my 98 for about 93,000 miles, I liked it so well it was the first accessory I put on my Venture when I got it, I would not ride without it. No need to cut the seats as long as you have stock seats, I am not sure about the after market seats. Only thing you have to do is chase out a couple holes to make them large enough to accept the mounting bolts as I recall.
  13. Ron , I sent the instructions to you in an email on 3-14, glad you found the connectors, other than having to hunt for the connectors, how was the install? Hard easy anything I can improve on? Anyone doing this install can call me at the number on the invoice and buisness card. Thanks
  14. Sir, I would be happy to sit with you and share an adult beverage one day, Thanks for the kind words and glad to hear that it all worked out as easy as I hoped it would. Ride safe
  15. Yes, on the Ventures, on the newer models like my 07 press and hold the select button for several seconds and it will bring up the clock, I think on th eolder models you may have to press both the select and reset. To set the clock once you are in that mode , press and hold both select and reset for a few seconds until the display flashes, then press the reset until that segment reads what you want, press select and the other segment flashes, press the reset utoon untill that segment reads what you want then press select abd you are done. Easy
  16. Go to this article in the tech section, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=37353 You can thread an old spark plug into the threaded insert and pull the plugs out, yes coolant will come in rapid fashion when you pull the plugs.
  17. So what you looking at there Ruffy? That bike must be right near where I grew up a few centuries ago, I grew up in Northboro, not far from Shewsbury.
  18. Gary I found this number 90185-18009-00 as an alternate at this web site http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f91f8700209bc794e84/rear-wheel
  19. :sign yeah that:exactly what I was going to say.
  20. Why does the resistor defeat the purpose of using LEDS? The only time you need resistors for LEDs is if you use them to replace the turn signals, the resistor just adds the load that the flasher needs to flash at the correct speed. You do not need resistors for brake lights or running lights that are changed to LEDs from incandesent. If you are trying to reduce the electrical draw on your system by installing LED lights that is fine, and it works, but if you do not have enought safety margin in the system to handle the short term load that is on the system when the blinkers are on then you have to much load on the system. The main reason many folks change to LEDs is because they are brighter than the stock bulbs like in the case of the signal dynamics 100 LED tail light/Brake light it packs a lot more light output into the same space and has better coverage. For $11.00 they worth trying.
  21. Hey Dingy, http://www.venturerider.org/forum/member.php?u=5971, I like it.

  23. Zollars3265, PM sent. also see this link http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4943&title=run-2fbrake-2fturn-light-bar-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=35
  24. Yeah, after they cleared all the cassette decks out of the warehouse when they stopped production on the Venture , they found all these old bikes had been stored under the cassette decks.
