  1. Joe , There is another very simlar thread making its way thru the forum, one suggestion was to make sure that the converter / isolator you hav eis designed for use with LEDs, some are only for incandesant and could cause problems with LEDs, just a thought.
  2. Angryjoe and I have been in contact, I am not certain what is going on, but I suspect there is some sort of leakage path or stray voltage path in the converter causing the issue.
  3. Go over to the Delphi Venture or Royal Star forum and look for Tanker Hank, he has one he just gutted , so he can fit another style into the housing, he may still have the electronics around.
  4. My points welded closed around 70K, new points installed about $35.00 been fine for the last few thousand miles. Made a bypass kit and keep it in the saddle bag just in case.
  5. Here is a link to Midrsv' post that is refered to by jsb777 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=36541 to do this just find the short cut that gets you to the post and right click on it, select "Copy Short Cut" from the menu and then paste that link where ever you want. Never hurts to clean up the grime if you can, the one issue is keping it from running down on places you do not want the crude to go, Iam a litle lazy and usually ignore it unless it is really bad then spray with carn cleaner and try to ctch the dripping with a rag. Front plugs are not to bad, some do not, but I always pul ny tank to change plugs, jus pull the dogbone links and it is easy just like the rears. Out of an abudance of caution I always pul just one dogbone at a time, and make sure you blow out the well that the plug sits in, they tend to collect all kind of debris that could fall inot the cylinder when you remove the plug. Oil level on next change should be just under the line on the windoow with the bike straight up, that wil reduce the oil getting to the carbs via the vent tubes. The terminal nut , I guess you are referring to the one on the top of the plug, they not used , the boot just slips over the treaded stem on the top of the plug.
  6. On my Venture it is labled SIGNAL, it is a 15 amp fuse. I am pretty sure it called the same on the original Royal Stars. Yes they had Tour DeLuxe in 1996, it was based on the original Royal Star that came out in 1996. They ended the original Royals in 2001 and brought out the Venture based Tour DeLuxe in 2005. Always confusing.
  7. There is a fuse it is in the fuse box, I know because I had one blow on my 98 when some wires I routed poorly chaffed thru and shorted. Do the other instrument lights and front turn signals work? If they do, then you have a connector disconnected or a cut harness that feeds the rear lights. There is a connector under the seat that connects the main harness to the fender harness and takes all of the rear lights circuits back to the area behind the license plate. Check under the seat for a white 6 pin connector, it may be disconnected.
  8. Here is someone I just discovered that covered the 60s, 70s, 80s and more, JJ Cale, he actually is the author of Cocaine and After Midnight, no guitar hero stuff, just good, maybe one of the best electrical guitar players I have heard.
  9. Sultans of Swing, Dire Straits
  10. Magic, now if you ever want to power anything else up front and it is a low current draw I make a 2-pin jumper that plugs in to the back side (in side the fairing) of the aux power outlet, I used one to to power my Kuryaken LED volt meter, works great. Check out my add on the member vendors section in the classifieds.
  11. There should be a cigarette lighter outlet on the left inside of the fairing, unless they started adding that after 99, every Venture I seen has one. maybe I am confused or missing something?
  12. Hi Mike, I just got your email from today, I did not see any emails previously, but if it went to my junk mail, it could have gotten tossed by the wife by mistake. Any way I sent back a confirmation of what you want and had a few questions just to be sure I was clear on what you wanted. If we clear the questions up, I should be able to ship everything this weekend. Thanks
  13. speakerfritz Harness is packed and ready to go to the post office, will drop off in a little while.
  14. I size fits all, is that you I just the Pay Pal from?
  15. My default go to place for everything I have trouble finding is McMaster Carr, here is link to a 1/4 inch coolant hose http://www.mcmaster.com/#rubber-coolant-hose/=shi5cn , McMaster Carr is very generous about supplying samples , just call and ask.
  16. Mounting should be the same, the upholstery will be different.
  17. Go here http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4200&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-royal-star-venture&cat=35 mine are better , cheaper and I am in the US, shipping is only $3.00
  18. If you are going to go in behind the license plate you need these. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=5049&title=plug-and-play-electrical-jumpers&cat=35 http://s40.photobucket.com/user/royalsteve/library/One%20to%20Two%20bullet%20jumpers I split my fairing this afternoon to see what was in there for connection to the turn signals. They have bullet connectors, so you could use my new one into two bullet jumpers for inside the fairing also. Here are some photos of the stock set up and then with the jumpers installed. You may want to consider taking the rear reflector/lights to under the seat instead of all the back to the license plate, much closer, you could use one of my "T"-harnesses for that, same price as the 5 pack of bullet jumpers. Shoot me an email if you are interested and we will work out what you need, I would probably make you two custom jumpers for the grounds so you do not have to double up any wires.
  19. How well do they hold their shape if you heat them up again? How hot did you have to get them to form them? I like the idea, have had many times in the past when this knowledge would have been helpful. Thanks for posting it.
  20. The ability to do that will depend on the material the hose is made from. If made from a old school rubber compound it may not work so well because they tend to be thermoset materials and once cured (vulcanized) they maintain their shape. Many of the new rubber "LIKE" materials are actually thermoplastic materials, they may not want hold there new shape when they get hot again, depends on the temperature required to make them soft again. I hope this works out well, it could be a life saver later in life when parts are no longer available.
  21. if you do loose your seat retaining nuts and do not have something on the studs to keep the seat on the bike and your Venture breaks down and you have to have it towed, there is a good chance you will loose your seat some where along the way during the tow. Just Sayin
  22. Maybe you have the jam nut to tight and the lever is binding in the clevis. Is the return spring item 4 in this IPB installed? http://www.yamahasportsplaza.com/oemparts/a/yam/50045f62f8700209bc794de9/handle-switch-lever
  23. IronMike, The picture that Mike G has does not show the Type-2 light bar harness, the Type-2 has 5 extra wire pig tails that are soldered in and allow you to splice into the harness for trailer wiring with no cutting required. Those and my regular "T" style aux harnesses are listed on the classified section under member vendors, look for my forum name, M61A1MECH. Here is a link to my ads. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showcat.php?cat=35
  24. Doyle, I just replied to your PM, the connectors you are looking for are under the driver's seat near the battery box, normally on the left side. they should be white, they may be buried a little bit. The black ones under the passenger seat are not the correct ones.
