  1. Depending on what you are doing you can tap into the circuit that powers the cigarette lighter in the fairing. Split the fairing and buy a jumper pigtail from me that lets you tap in easy as pie. Spliting the fairing is not much harder than taking off the tank. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=5049&title=plug-and-play-electrical-jumpers&cat=35
  2. Here is a link to a delphi posting for a set of LA Choppers for $150.00 plus shippng. http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar/messages/10055/1
  3. Glass termites , you may need to tent the house to get rid of them.
  4. Took my 07 Venture back to the dealer shortly after getting to fix the ever present "click clack pop pop" noise when backing it up. Got the bike back and like you heard a strange noise and no rear brakes, stopped and found the rear caliper had not been bolted back up. Right back , the service manager has know me for a long time and he knew something was wrong as soon as he saw my face, he looked at it, walked back found the mechanic, had him in tow when he came back, bike went behind the wall to get fixed and I never did see that mechanic at the dealship ever again. I normally do all my own wrenching, but to be truthful, as the years go on , I have found myself making some silly mistakes, like not checking the tigthness on everthing I took off and put back on a second time before I take of on the shakedown cruise, never anything dangerous, but it sure is annoying,I have fired my self more than once for being forgetful.
  5. Here is alink to Baron's site, mind you nothing the Baron sells is inexpensive and the 424 pipes are generally very loud. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/category/20/index.html Here is alink to BUB's site, again not cheap but maybe the best sound on the market. http://www.bub.com/Yamaha_Venture.cfm?pa=list&psearch=&zsb=0&sc1=Yamaha&sc2=Venture&sc3=Slip%2DOns Vance and Hines Monster Ovals for the Road King or the FLH should also fit and have a very nice tone. http://products.vanceandhines.com/store/16795/ wow those are expensive, if they are the correct ones. Keep an eye on the classifieds here and on the Delphi Venture forums you will see various slip ons for sale from time to time.
  6. Yeah maybe a bit, but the object is to keep the bad stuff out of the oil, so why not, only costs a few dollars for an oil filter, takes maybe 5 minutes to change and you lose a minimal amout of oil in the process. When I was running dino oil in my 98 Tour Classic and changing it every 3k to 4k miles I changed the filter every time, so I figure I am spending about the same on filters as I always did and with the extended interval on the synthetic but at the higher cost I am spending about the same on the oil over the life of bike and I have piece of mind. Just in case you were asking.
  7. Once the battery is charged, check the voltage at the battery terminals, at idle should be 13ish volts, rev it up it should increase to not more than 14.5 or so. If the increase goes north of 15 volts , shut it off, the regulator is shot and not regulating, that will fry your battery, and it can explode. If no increase when reved up, could be Regulator is not letting stator voltage thru or stator is not producing voltage. To check if the stator is working, pul the regulator down and disconect the plug on the back. Check those contacts in he plug and the regulator to see if they are burnt or not. Start the bike and check for AC voltage form any of the pins on the plug to any of the others, you should get something north of 16 volts, check all 3 possible combinations (A to B, A to C, and B to C) they should all be the same. If no voltage or an inbalance your stator is probably shot, I think there is another connector in the stator to RR circuit further back on the bike near the back of the battery that is exposed to the elements and wash from the rear tire, some times folks have found that connection to be bad also. Hopefully some one with experience with that connector set wil chime in.
  8. On my Venture with synthetic oil I change the oil every 6,000, but I change the filter every 3,000. No problems in the past 73,000 miles.
  9. Walnutz Use this link to get to the Venture history page here on VR. http://www.venturerider.org/modules.php?name=history Should answer your questions.
  10. Triple J If you go for that look I have some set ups for connecting the electricals inside the fairing so you do not have to cut any wires, just unplug the factory wiring and plug in my adapters. Here are some links to my ad on the classified section. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=5074&title=back-to-back-bullet-connectors&cat=35 http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=5049&title=plug-and-play-electrical-jumpers&cat=35
  11. Here is a link to my ad, http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4943&title=run-2fbrake-2fturn-light-bar-for-2nd-gen-venture&cat=35, I have one left, not sure if I will continue to offer them as ready to ship, will probably go to make to order, delivery time will go from 2 days to probably 7 days.
  12. Hal, Use this link to find my harness. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4200&title=auxillary-tail-light-harness-for-royal-star-venture&cat=35 You will need a converter to go from 5 wire system on the bike to a 4 wire system on the trailer, a powered converter / isolator is the best way to go. My adapter harness lets you do that install with out cutting any wires on the bike's harness.
  13. Check the size on the front tire, a lot of folks use one size smaller in width to help the low speed handling, that may cause tracking issues on certian roads. Front fork pressure is critical, you must use a gauge with a zero loss chuck when checking. Actually you can pick up a suitable syringe type pump at a Harely dealer. Do not use any sort of compressor to fill the forks, only us ethe syringe type pump. The max is 7 psi, but the factory default setting is 0 psi. You may want the check the acorn nut that is in the center of the triple tree, I found mine loose one day and that caused some slight tracking issues, but chaces are the bearings in the triple tree (streering head) need to be tightened. If you have a means to get the front wheel off the ground, let the front wheel naturally turn to the left and the right, if it moves quickly and bounces back up more than slightly when it hits the stop the bearings are to loose, it should slowly turn left or right and then just barely come up off the stop after it hits. Do check out all of the threads in the second gen tech section.
  14. Use his link to the Venturers web site http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&frm=1&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0CDMQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.venturers.org%2FTech_Library%2F%3Faction%3Darticle%26cat_id%3D002008%26id%3D258&ei=ou_lU_HeIcb8yQSRiIDgAg&usg=AFQjCNHmdVUvwotDELkk99NizWckRhHPbQ
  15. Ventorous , You can go here http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing and poke around, I am pretty sure I saw a thread on trailer brakes on there a time or two.
  16. That failure mode is very common on the second gens, why they would no have sealed that switch I have no idea. Mine was the same when I first went to use the PTT switch after having the bike for maybe 4 years, now that I use it on a semi-regular basis , it seems to be holding its own and continues to work.
  17. Good on you, Color coordinated fins are not stock, everything from 96 to 2001 came from the factory with silver colored fins. Many folks have painted their fins to match the bike's primary color.
  18. The Utopia has a series of thru holes on one piece and threaded holes on the other so you can adjust it up and down by selecting different holes , it also has a socket head cap screw (1/4-20) that is used to adjust the tilt of the back rest so you can tilt it forward or back ward to suit or needs.
  19. Try this link, Woody is a memeber here and a real nice guy, I know he does second gen pillow tops, he may be able to help you with your need. www.pillowtopseatcompany.com
  20. If you could not see spark until it was pitch black you may have a bad ignition unit, I am pretty sure these bikes have a waste spark cycle, the ignition system fires a heavy spark that should be visible in daylight at the end of the compression stroke to drive the piston down and then a second lighter spark, that will also bite the crap out of you on the exhaust stroke to help burn any left over hydrocarbons as they head out towards the tail pipes. You have been bit by the waste spark. The ignition unit is on a bulkhead that is just forward of the battery, you need to pull the battery and the battery box to gain access to it. Maybe some in your neck of the woods has installed a dyna 3K ignition system and still has their original unit, you could try swapping it out to se if that fixes it, because it sounds like your fuel pump is working. Are you sure there is no pinched areas in the fuel line after the pump that would restrict fuel getting to the carbs? I forget which side of the pump the filter is on , if it is on the out bund side of the pump are you sure it is not plugged up. Are spark plugs wet with fuel? If you ar epumping fuel into the cyclinders and not burning it the plugs should be wet with raw fuel, if not you may npt be getting fuel to or thru the carbs. Maybe this helps a little bit. Good luck.
  21. A 96 Royal Star is going to feel like a slug after having that 83 First Gen. Only about 79 horsepower at the crank, not sure what you have at the rear wheel, but less than 79 for sure and they are heavy bikes to boot. I love the original Royals, had a 98 Tour Classic for 9 years and put 96,000 miles on her, she is still going , I see her around town every now and then, she ran strong, but was no speed demon for sure. Comfortable ride, could do 400 to 600 miles in a day no problem.
  22. If you know for sure which wire is the ground, all you need to do to check the wiring is, ground that wire and take each of the others to a hot wire to see if it works, the brighter of the two will be your brake circuit the other is your running or tail light circuit. On the bike the tail light circuit is a blue wire, the brake circuit is a yellow wire. Hope that helps just a little bit.
  23. Picked up a 2013 about three weeks ago, rode it twice so far, spent last week on the Venture at International. venture is going up for sale this week.
  24. Here are copies of the Yamaha Service Bulletins that address rear wheel noise.
  25. Rick, my blue/ black 07 will be on the market in a few days, soon as I get it home from international and clean and service her, she will up for sale. has a bit over 72 k miles so he is almost broke in. Had not really set a firm price yet, so I am somewhat open to suggestions.
