  1. The word from STAR TOURING is that there will be a new Venture in the 2015 line up , but no details on style, power plant or any thing else, I think Mike Griswald talked to Bob Star ,from Star Motorcycles while at Star Days a week or so back.
  2. Ok, you either have a bad regulator or a bad stator, because the voltage with the bike running well above idle it should 13 +volts.
  3. If when the bike is running and you rev it up to around 2'000 RPM you do get an increase in voltage at the battery to something close to 13.5 or so then you have either a bad regulator (not letting voltage from the stator get thru to the charging system) or you have a bad stator (not making any AC voltage for the regulator to regulate). If you drop the regulator and disconnect the plug, with the bike running you can check for voltage between the circuits, if you have equal voltage ( something north of 16 volts) on all 3 possible combinations (1 to 2, 1 to 3, 2 to 3) then the stator is ok. The most likely candidate is the regulator, they are known for failing. You can pick up a used on off eBay for amour $35.00 . Good luck
  4. We are in the Hampton Inn in Gunthersville, we did about 380, stayed on back roads amuch as possible, heat was not to bad untill we had to get on 4 lane highways.
  5. Day 1, we are in Valdosta, just had dinner with the kids, be heading out towards Gunthersville in the morning, could not get an extra night (Sat) at the lodge so we will be staying at the Gunthersville Hampton Inn on Saturday and show up at the Lodge sometime on Sunday. See everyone Sunday. Safe travels to all
  6. My wife loves hers so much, that I had to find a similar set for our new Goldwing.
  7. here you go http://www.xtremetape.com/ can't fly an F4 without it, trust me.
  8. Did you check the output voltage at the battery terminals after you installed it? Make sure it is putting out around 13 volts, anything much higher like 16 or 17 is cause for concern.
  9. This is what I put on my Venture after my regulator went south and cooked my battery, http://www.kuryakyn.com/shopbybike.aspx?s=4219 Made a small aluminum plate to stick it to and attached it to the handle bars with a rubber lined "P" clamp, we called them adel clamps in the Air Force.
  10. The default settings from Yamaha is 0 psi in the forks and the rear shock. The max is 7 psi for the front, and you want them to be identical. The max for the rear is 52 if memory serves, I normally run about 25 to 30 and I ride 2 up a lot. As Boomer said it is a personal choice based on what you like, just do not exceed the maximums.
  11. here are a couple of links that may help. One should take you to copies of the Yamaha service bulletins dealing with the issue, you may want to have copies of them with you when you talk to the dealer, just in case they are not aware of the issues, many dealers are completely ignorant when it comes to the Royal Star line. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?p=836882#post836882 http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=86055
  12. Got her home yesterday, took a few photos this morning before we took off, to get the boss her Ultimate backrest, me some floor boards and a couple other things to start making her ours. So far I am very impressed.
  13. You can install a DYNA 3000 ignition, that helps. You can go over to the Delphi forums and talk with Tanker Hank, he has managed to drop a Venture motor into a standard Royal Star a couple of times, that will get you some added horsepower, but it is not for the faint of heart.
  14. On the billet air cleaner covers, it was always stated in the catalog that you had to use K&N filters with those billet covers, they clearly stated that the stock filters should not be used.
  15. The blue one is a V-Star, the silver one is Road Star.
  16. The regulator is right in front of the oil filter, it is held on by two bolts, drop it and the there is connector on it , the harness is long enough to allow you to pull it out so you can easily disconnect it. The wire in that connector comes straight from the stator. Start the bike and test from pin to pin in the connector, I forget the exact voltage that you should see but should be something north of 16 volts AC.
  17. The original Royals actually worked so the shock extended to provide damping instead of compressing, and as was said above the linkage is all different. There may be a way to do what you want, but I doubt that the links for a 99 and up Venture will be of any use to you.
  18. Send a PM to bill4you502 he just installed a set that I wired up for him. I set it all up for him so it was all plug and play, but he found that some one at his dealer had cut the plugs off off the harness under the seat, but he got it all working.
  19. Billmac, PM sent.
  20. follow this link to the second gen tech section. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=492
  21. Yes tall windshield installed , stock come wih the bike, it has an ultimate seat and the stock seat comes with the bike.
  22. Barry, Yes same red as yours, I do not think I will have it ready for International, would need to get it set up for the trailer and all, and I am not going to get it home until probably next Friday or Saturday, due to business travel next week, not sure I want take off on a bike that I have had for less than a week on that long a trip, so one last go with the Venture then I will put her up for sale. Here is a picture from the ad where I found it.
  23. No Air bag, No ABS, pretty basic model with some after market stuff and a GPS thrown in.
  24. PUC, THANKS, would never even think of leaving this group, I talk you guys more than I talk to my blood relatives, I have more in common with everyune here han I do any blood relatives, except my daughter. This my family. Brake Pad, 2012 and up may be the second gen of the current design, but the GL have gone thru many generational changes since they were introduced back in the mid 70's as a 4 cylinder , 1100 or 1000 cc. Lots has changed since then.
  25. Wanted a bit more comfort, power and improved handling. Nothing wrong with my Venture , love it, but it does lack a bit from what the Wing offers in the above catagories. I been riding Royal Star based bikes since 1998 , need a little change.
