  1. I work for a Teledyne, which is a large growing company that spans many industries, I would highly recommend that anyone looking for work in a technical field check out their web site at http://www.teledyne.com/, there are 4 divisions and some companies serve more than one division, so you need to look at all of the various web sites for each company to be sure you see all of the oppurtunities. I do not hold any sway with any of them, and I cannot accept your resume if you send it to me, all aplications must be posted to the company web sites. Teledyne typically pays above the area norm, I know they do here in Daytona. Dion if you are not stuck on staying in Sebring, Daytona is pretty nice area. Anyone in or around Huntsville, Teledyne Brown Engineering is almost alwats got opening of some type. Just to name a few that I am familar with. Good luck to all in the hunt for work.
  2. Here are the links I promised, http://forums.delphiforums.com/vrider, http://forums.delphiforums.com/royalstar, Just ask the same question, or do a search for engine swap, I am sure Tank will chime in he is very active on both forums. I do know engineers quite well , I work for and engineer to order firm that services the sub sea oil and gas market, prior to that I worked closely with aerospace engineers on tactical missiles for the Navy. They like everyone have their faults and need to be dope slapped on occasion, but in general they do good work and have reasons behind what they do. Trust me there is a reason for those struts, can you remove lots of stuff from that bike and still have it run, absolutely, should you with out knowing the full extent of why that part is there and the potential consequences, not a good idea in my book. They may be there due to guidelines inposed by Yamaha to ensure a certian safety factor is met in the design, such as what happens to the motor in the case of a crash. Anyway it is your bike do as you please, if you elect to remove the struts and later decide to sell the bike, please be sure to tell the new owner about the mod so he / she can make their own decision on if they need to be installed or not.
  3. I am no authority on this by any means, but I can tell you that the original Tour Deluxe that were made using the original standard Royal Star motor and frame (96 to 01)did not have those extra struts, but that motor also put out about 20 horsepower less than the Venture and newer Tour Deluxe mootors. A few folks have swapped out the newer Venture style motor into the older (96 to 01) model Royal Stars, most notably Tank from the Delphi Venture forum, you want to ask him what he did with the motor mounts, because I am sure he did not use the upper portion. If you are not familar with that forum I can post a link later if you need. My personal take would be , that the engineers at Yamaha had good reason to add those struts, they certianly did not add them for the looks, so they probably have a very useful function that if removed could cause problems in the long run. But that is just me.
  4. Jeff I hated to see you sell the bike, but I know it was the right decision at this time, all I did was to post a link to your add on one of the posts by Dave over on Delphi, I think the bike sold itself once the right person saw it. Hoping to see you back on two wheels one day, you know when it comes time you may want to consider one of the original (96 to 01) Royal Stars, they sit a bit lower than the Venture, not nearly as heavy and still provide a good deal of comfort and the ergonomics are nearly identical to the Venture as far as riding position. There are a bunch showing up on Craigs list for really reasonable prices now, so they should be very affordable when ever you are ready to get back in the saddle.
  5. and the issue is:confused24: Posted before the OP edit
  6. I wonder if there is drain under the drink holder so the condensation dripping off a cold one will create the obligatory wet spot underneath.
  7. Prayers sent, for full and rapid recovery.
  8. Try this post from a few years ago. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=30999&highlight=Freebird

go over to the Delphi motorcycle trailer towing forum. http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing probably find all you need there. If you decide to add a trailer I will be able to help you out with a "T" harness so you do not have to cut into the bike's harness, see my add in the members vendors section of the classified adds forum.
  13. You may want to try this guy over at Delphi. He is parting out a 2000 Venture, not sure what type seat he has. http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=vrider&nav=msgwin&msg=14313.1 or check out Woodco 100 over on Delphi, I think he is a member here also. http://forums.delphiforums.com/vrider/messages/?msg=12745.18
  14. I respectfully disagree with you on the HP rating , my recollection is that the original Royal Stars were only pushing 79 HP at the crank and as such somewhat less at the rear wheel. Still enough to get you down the road in not to shabby a manner. Now am old and my memory is not what it was at one time, so feel free to challenge what I said, but I will check for additional resources to see if I can back up my statement.
  15. That is the speed o sensor, it is a Doppler pick up that counts the teeth on the rear gears as they go by. I have heard some say they can change the plugs without pulling the tank all the way off, they loosen it and block it up, me I always pull the tank just to be sure I do not hit it with a tool. You also have to remove the "dog bones" to get to the front plugs. Make sure you blow out the well the plugs sit in to remove any collected debris before you remove the plugs. Only have to remove the rear screw, the front is held in place by a rubber "tit" that sticks thru a hole in the cover, sometimes they are tight, just a little pressure and wiggling should do the trick. Some fuses are under the left side cover some inside the right front lower cowling. Clutch is hydraulic, no adjustment, maintenance consists of changing the fluid out when ever it gets dark. Of course eventually you will need to change the spring or the friction plates as they do get worn thru normal operation. Not sure how loud the RK pipes are, but I have heard a lot of Ventures with after market pipes and as long as the baffles are still intact they not overly loud unless you get on them. That being said I have a set of used BUBs on the classified section under Venture parts, I just put new baffles with new packing in them, just decided to keep my Krome Werks pipes instead of changing them. It has been done with very good results, looks like chrome if done properly. Here is a link to the Tech Section here on VR that should tell you everything you need to know.http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515
  16. The 96 and the 97 both had ignition switch mounted under the seat. What makes you think it is not the correct switch? Here are the part numbers I just pulled from on line dealers. 1996 4NK-82510-01-00 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC (XVZ13AH) 1996 4NK-82510-01-00 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC (XVZ13ATH) 1997 4NK-82510-01-00 XVZ13ATJ/XVZ13ATJC/XVZ13AJ/XVZ13AJC They are all the same part number, what am I missing? And they match the part number in the one listed in the classifieds.
  17. If this works the attachment should be a copy of the Big Foot mod from ISRA web site from way back.
  18. here a link to Barons big air mod for original Royals. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/254/index.html If you are interested I have a word file from the original ISRA web site that details the BOG FOOT mod, it is a bit more involved than just adding the Baron's kit. Email me at stevemarilyn@hotmail.com and I will send you a copy.
  19. You can also exchange the rear end out for one from a V-max that will help it perfom better, does not "increase the HP", but does make what is there more usable.
  20. Use this link to get to the classified section, I think this is the same switch you want. http://www.venturerider.org/classifi...al-star-&cat=8
  21. Use this link to get to the classified section, I think this is the same switch you want. http://www.venturerider.org/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=4882&title=new-key-switch-for-royal-star-&cat=8
  22. Yes it is that poorly designed, unfornuatley the place they relocated the switch to on later models was just as bad, on the frame right behind the radiator, where they got fried from the heat. I am not sure about a "NEW" switch, the only place is probably a dealer if you need new. If you just want another, then Ebay some place like Pinwall, they generally have a good selection of such things. Should be able to change the tumblers out, had it done by the dealer under warrenty on my 98 Tour Cllassic when the ignition switch went out. That is not clear, but I would suspect it is the mechanics inside the tumbler and the drive rod that engages into the electrical switch, could be something came loose or fell out. You will need to get it out and dissassemble it to know.
  23. Fort Myers has Edison's home and a very neat evening dinner theater on a train where they do a mystery play. Punta Gorda has a Corvette and muscle car museum.
  24. I love this place, I think spend more time here than any place, except maybe riding. I am proud to be a member any have met so many great folks, that I consider friends.
