go over to the Delphi motorcycle trailer towing forum. http://forums.delphiforums.com/MCTrailertowing probably find all you need there. If you decide to add a trailer I will be able to help you out with a "T" harness so you do not have to cut into the bike's harness, see my add in the members vendors section of the classified adds forum.

WTB: Pillow Top Venture Seat Set
M61A1MECH replied to glupanow's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
You may want to try this guy over at Delphi. He is parting out a 2000 Venture, not sure what type seat he has. http://forums.delphiforums.com/n/pfx/forum.aspx?webtag=vrider&nav=msgwin&msg=14313.1 or check out Woodco 100 over on Delphi, I think he is a member here also. http://forums.delphiforums.com/vrider/messages/?msg=12745.18 -
I respectfully disagree with you on the HP rating , my recollection is that the original Royal Stars were only pushing 79 HP at the crank and as such somewhat less at the rear wheel. Still enough to get you down the road in not to shabby a manner. Now am old and my memory is not what it was at one time, so feel free to challenge what I said, but I will check for additional resources to see if I can back up my statement.

new 06 RSTD owner with ?s

That is the speed o sensor, it is a Doppler pick up that counts the teeth on the rear gears as they go by. I have heard some say they can change the plugs without pulling the tank all the way off, they loosen it and block it up, me I always pull the tank just to be sure I do not hit it with a tool. You also have to remove the "dog bones" to get to the front plugs. Make sure you blow out the well the plugs sit in to remove any collected debris before you remove the plugs. Only have to remove the rear screw, the front is held in place by a rubber "tit" that sticks thru a hole in the cover, sometimes they are tight, just a little pressure and wiggling should do the trick. Some fuses are under the left side cover some inside the right front lower cowling. Clutch is hydraulic, no adjustment, maintenance consists of changing the fluid out when ever it gets dark. Of course eventually you will need to change the spring or the friction plates as they do get worn thru normal operation. Not sure how loud the RK pipes are, but I have heard a lot of Ventures with after market pipes and as long as the baffles are still intact they not overly loud unless you get on them. That being said I have a set of used BUBs on the classified section under Venture parts, I just put new baffles with new packing in them, just decided to keep my Krome Werks pipes instead of changing them. It has been done with very good results, looks like chrome if done properly. Here is a link to the Tech Section here on VR that should tell you everything you need to know.http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=515 -
igntion switch replace
M61A1MECH replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
The 96 and the 97 both had ignition switch mounted under the seat. What makes you think it is not the correct switch? Here are the part numbers I just pulled from on line dealers. 1996 4NK-82510-01-00 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC (XVZ13AH) 1996 4NK-82510-01-00 ROYAL STAR TOUR CLASSIC (XVZ13ATH) 1997 4NK-82510-01-00 XVZ13ATJ/XVZ13ATJC/XVZ13AJ/XVZ13AJC They are all the same part number, what am I missing? And they match the part number in the one listed in the classifieds. -
here a link to Barons big air mod for original Royals. http://www.baronscustom.com/catalog/display/254/index.html If you are interested I have a word file from the original ISRA web site that details the BOG FOOT mod, it is a bit more involved than just adding the Baron's kit. Email me at stevemarilyn@hotmail.com and I will send you a copy.

96 standard ign switch
M61A1MECH replied to baylensman's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Yes it is that poorly designed, unfornuatley the place they relocated the switch to on later models was just as bad, on the frame right behind the radiator, where they got fried from the heat. I am not sure about a "NEW" switch, the only place is probably a dealer if you need new. If you just want another, then Ebay some place like Pinwall, they generally have a good selection of such things. Should be able to change the tumblers out, had it done by the dealer under warrenty on my 98 Tour Cllassic when the ignition switch went out. That is not clear, but I would suspect it is the mechanics inside the tumbler and the drive rod that engages into the electrical switch, could be something came loose or fell out. You will need to get it out and dissassemble it to know. -
Fort Myers has Edison's home and a very neat evening dinner theater on a train where they do a mystery play. Punta Gorda has a Corvette and muscle car museum.

If you are looking at their power sports batteries, they offer 4 , the two lowest priced ones do not mention AGM, the two higher priced ones have AGM listed in the specs and even mention why AGM is better for power sport applications. My guess is if the spec sheet or description does not say AGM then they are not AGM. All four come with acid packs that you install after purchase and then seal with the special caps they provide.

It happens too often here in Florida, another diver died recently in Blue Springs in Deland, same sort of issue, plus a novice diver that went deeper than he was certified for and had forgoten to open his valve as required then panicked in the cave when his buddy tried to help him by buddy breathing. Incorrectly opened valve, should have been caught by his diving buddy if they had done a buddy check before eneting the water. Diving is dangerous enough, but when you start to stretch your abilities and training or lack of training it can get very dangerous very quickly. Both events are very sad, but also were preventable, that makes it even more saddening.

Merry Christmas to all and Don thanks for all you do for all of us. Have a blessed New Year.

Jeff, I understand the need, but very sorry to see it go, hope you stick around the boards, no reason to leave the family, just because you cannot ride. Take Care and hope to cross paths again.

Valve Adjustment Done
M61A1MECH replied to etcswjoe's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Randy R You are correct there is a Yamaha campaign applied to certain VINs of the 2007 Ventures for incorrectly torqued head bolts. Kid It is pretty easy to find out if your bike is one those that needs attention, just call the your dealer and talk with the service manager, give him you VIN and he should be able to look it up and tell if it is due or not. -
Spending time in Florida (not bike related, yet)
M61A1MECH replied to Midrsv's topic in Watering Hole
Dennis I am not to far from Ocala, I know if you are like me you probaby don not let others ride your bike, but if it is an option for someone to follow you down on your bike I am sure the wife and I can help out. We could just drive up and met you there , then caravan down to Jensen Beach. Or if you want ride your bike down to my place with your wife following you, leave there in my garage, get your trailer moved and set up , then come back after the bike. Or if there is any thing else you need, let me know. -
Chris You know you can not change just the plug wires, they are molded into the coils, you can change the boots out but not the wires by themselves. Here is a link to an IPB showing the parts. http://www.powerpartsplus.com/pages/OemParts?aribrand=YAM#/Yamaha/ROYAL_STAR_VENTURE_-_XVZ13TFV_-_2006/ELECTRICAL_2/XVZ13TFV_(2006_MOTORCYCLE)/ELECTRICAL_2_(XVZ13TFV_-_2006) Each coil and wire assembly is about $80.00 plus shipping.

Exhaust tip
M61A1MECH replied to crazygaucho's topic in Royal Star and Royal Star Tour Deluxe Tech Talk
Dion The mufflers for the Tour Deluxe have nut plates or clinch nuts mounted in the end to accept the screws used to secure the cone tips. The tips are pretty heavy and I do not think the thickness of the material inside the Venture muffler end cap is robust enough hold the tips on for very long. Sheet metal type screws probably would not work, the muffler cap material would likely fatigue in a short time. -
I am 25 miles south, let me know what your plans are, we can get together for a bit.
