  1. I was installing the clutch slave cylinder on the 83, and when I went to snug up the bottom bolt, the threads in the block stripped. Any ideas how to fix them good enough to tighten up the bolt? I checked and it looks like there is about 1/8" or a bit more of good, unused threads left down in the blind hole, so I may try and see if I can find a bolt that is a little longer and see if there is enough left to hold. I don't think a heli-coil would be very easy to install. The female threads in the block are about 6" inside of the bulge in the stator cover, so I'd have to find a way to extend the installation tool. Also, the threads don't start at the surface, they are recessed about 1/8" so that the bolt will act as a pilot bushing also. The next best alternative that I see is to tap it for a larger bolt, probably a 1/4"-28 and open up the hole in the cylinder a bit. The Yammie bolt is 6mm or .236". I'll still have to come up with a way to extend the tap though. I haven't looked on the Grainger site yet, but do they make a tap extension so you can reach into recesses? Anybody ever have any luck with Devcon or something like this? Barb and I are leaving on the 89 Thursday, so it'll be sitting for a bit. Frank D.
  2. Is there an adaptor for converting the 5-pin audio connector (on gas tank of my 2008 RSV) to a common 1/8" mini-jack for plugging in a set of common earphones? Thank you.
  3. Measurments are just a hair larger than 1 1/8 inch square?
  4. Ok.... I don't know nutting about this one. I've had good luck bending and shaping thin aluminum sheet before but I've moved in to the heavier stuff on another project. I bought some 1/8" x 2" aluminum strap today for making some brackets. I need to put some 90 degree bends across the width of this stuff. With the 1/8" thickness am I going to be concerned about stress or cracking at the bends making that sharp of a bend? No real weight will be on the bracket after mounting but don't want to weaken it in the process. Mike
  5. I've seen a few different ideas for hub caps on 8" wheels. Don't know if anybody has tried this. I had a front hub cap from my semi kicking around, it measures 8 3/4" same as the outside lip of 8" wheel. There's a small gap between the wheel and the cap about an 1/8" but it's really hard to pull back off. Can't give it the acid run right now( few to many icy patches).
  6. Today I put the bike on the lift and did as Ponch said and put a small piece of rubber on the passenger side of the center stand to stop the stand just about 1/8 inch from hitting my pipes. I then did as some recommended at Freebirds MD and used a grinder to very slowly and precisely grind the tip of my side stand off just a very little. This is to let it pass the center stand. I used a wet rag to keep it cool while doing this, and so not to cause the chrome to come off later. I got it to 1/8" of the center stand to pass. I then sprayed some black gloss paint into the lid of the can and used a twisted piece of paper towel to carefully paint the grind end of the side stand. Once fixed I then put my hydraulic floor jack under the bike while on the lift and raised the bike enough so that I could put the center stand down. Worked great, solid on the lift. I also cut myself a 9 1/4" 2x4 and put it my saddle bag. Very satisfied customer Ponch. Thank you and thanks to all for advise. 7. just wondering when to change avon venom, i'm not sure how many miles i have on mine but they are down to the wear bars but still an 1/8" away from being a slick. i hate to change too soon but also don't want go to the edge either.
  8. I have an Edset system that I would like to use ear buds with. The Edset module has a 1/8 port that I think can be used for ear bubs. My ear bubs have a 3.5mm connector and that will not connect to the Edset. What am I missing. Adaptor or do some ear bubs have a 1/8 connector????? Hopefully someone can get me straight on this.
  9. I just bought Edsets and installed them in my helmet and not entirely happy with the sound. I would like to try using ear bubs with them. The module has a 1/8 port on them. My ear bubs have a 3.5mm plug so they don't fit. Are ear bubs made with an 1/8 plug? Do I need an adaptor? I know some of you will have the answer Thanks,
  10. Split the cases on Big Dudes motor tonight to replace the damper cam. We pulled the driven axle and replaced the damper cam. At the time I ordered parts, I also ordered a new "holder" that the spring seats against on the opposite end. Checking the one that was in there against the new one, there is an 1/8" difference between the two. The existing one is wider between the bearing seat and the spring seat, therefore compressing the spring more than the new one. This part # (2we-17524-00-00) is the same for Ventures and VMaxxes from 83 to present. I wonder if the extra 1/8" compression on this already stiff spring would not allow the damper cam to do its job and rotate in the pinion under extreme duress as happened in his case when he hit second gear hard and split the damper cam? Part on the left was in the motor, one on the right is the new one. Any guesses?
  11. i have taken my seat cover off the '86, and did some major "whittling". now the recover question::what do you use to reattach the seat cover to the plastic pan? i seriously doubt that i could find 1/8 inch staples , this side of Japan, so i am open for suggestions. just jt
  12. Just turned 12K on Avon Rear. Measured the Tread Depth that is left this afternoon. Between 1/16 and 1/8 Inch left dead Center. I will call it 3/32nds So another 2000 miles to go, should make 14K. Tire seems to be wearing even, still looks good. I measured it at 1/8 inch tread, left before I went on the Reno Trip, on 2 July. 2200 miles took off 1/32nd worth of rubber. Rideing Single, about 60 lb. luggage. If anybody is interested. Will be replaceing with an Elite III, Its sitting on the garage floor.
