Anybody Upgraded Their Front Brakes?
bongobobny replied to bongobobny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
OK great info guys! I am giving serious thought to the 6 pots Gary is offering. Not sure what effect the ms will have with those. Yes I agree that the smaller ms sounds a little odd but it's a matter of pressure, not volume that comes into play. Thanks for all the tips, keep them coming! -

Fuel pump issue
bongobobny replied to Marcarl's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Carl, there is this one "relay" that isn't really a relay like a normal one. It works with the ignition circuit. When you hit the key, it energises the fuel pump for about 5 seconds and then shuts off. When ignition is detected it will then reenergise. It's function in life is to prevent the fuel pump from constantly running at startup or if the bike doesn't start. Hold on to those Dutch purse strings, they cost about $100... -

No, I haven't found out which is right and which is wrong. Sure wish I knew an older knowledgeable Honda mechanic. Either set will just bolt up, where the mounting brackets bolt on to the spindles are the same. Can't be the rear brakes because the rears on the Civic and CRX were drums. Y'all remember drums...

Anybody Upgraded Their Front Brakes?
bongobobny replied to bongobobny's topic in Royal Star Venture Tech Talk ('99 - '13)
Hey Earl, we were just talking about you and front brake upgrade in chat! I'll give you a call this weekend... -
Once I finally get done upgrading my rear brakes on my Hannigan, I will be looking at possible improvements with my front brakes, so I thought I'd check to see if anybody has ever gone to a better caliper, better rotors, etc. I do have SS lines to install but I'm looking for more...

The saga continues!!! So today the caliper with the brackets arrived so I decided to see who was lieing. They match up with the calipers that I bought off of Fleabay from Florida, so it seems as if the junk yard lied, right? Hold on! I try the brake pads I bought and they don't fit, too wide at the ears!!! Well, I also picked up a second set of pads that also arrived today, and they match the pads I already have!! Both claim to be for a '85 CRX!!! They DO fit the calipers from the junk yard!!! But both sets of calipers were specifically ordered for an '85 CRX as well!!! Sooo, I spent over a half hour tonight grinding down the ears so they will fit into the calipers and have 3 done, one more to go. Also in today's delivery was the new pistons and seals for the junk yard calipers that are now cleaned up and ready for primer and paint and rebuild. I had to take a torch to the bleeders to get them out. I will be installing speed bleeders in them. I got my stock brake line back from Pennsylvania after finding out the guy that makes them up down there does not have SAE fittings to screw into the master cylinder. In the mean time I did find a local hydraulic place that will make me up a line with SAE on the one side, and metric banjo on the other side but will cost $15 more than the PA guy was going to do them. Unfortunately they close weekdays before I could get up there after work, so the only time I have is Saturday mornings. Unfortunately the brake line did not get back to my place until saturday around 11:00 in the morning, too late for me to run up ansd have them make it up for me that day. Hope one of you Hannigan owners want to upgrade your rear brakes some time, I have calipers with brackets and pads ready to go that I will sell for $200 shipped. Then all you will need is rotors, a bigger master cylinder, and a brake line unless you go to some metric master cylinder...

It's a reasonable price, but not the deal of the century. Hey, counter offer with a somewhat lowball offer and talk cash! Pretend you are Rick of "Pawn Stars..."

Back in the day when I always owed something, I would always file on the 12th, as it beat the rush and also lowered the possibility of being audited as opposed to filing on the 15th. Not that I had any reason to fear being audited, just wanted to minimizde the possibility. Nowdays I get a refund, since Becky retired (whole another strory there) so I file as soon as possible to avoid giving the government an extended interest free loan. Mine is already spent...
