  1. if you are talking about the vents at the bottom of the fairing they are good ... but there was no side covers over the engine ...
  2. went and looked at the 1991 venture ... It is a 1300cc .. the plastic fairing has a hole where the right mirror hooks on mirror is still there.. (as you sitting on bike).. the side bag lids look like there were made with that chip board (home made)? there is a stain on concrete by where the rear brake caliper is .. and a stain on concrete underneath (by the stator cover / slave cylinder is ) looks like front fork seals are leaking at the top .(wasn't wet but looked stained)? Like i said he told me it wouldn't start . he said he hooked jumper cables to it would turn over but not fire.. I seen the positive cable sticking out under cover .. Tires look ok but haven't check the date code on them.. I'm still waiting to hear back from him.. So do you all think it is still worth the 300.00 ?
  3. Ok guys. Thanks for all your responses . I will see If I can get this bike ...
  4. Thanks twigg, So I guess what I should ask is : should i spend the 300.00 for it.
  5. thanks Gary, so if the headlight cover different would that make fairing not fit as well ?
  6. Needing plastic mostly .. But if other parts would work then that is inventory..
  7. I have a 1984 venture which I'm in process of getting running.. I have a lead on a 1991 venture the guy wants 300.00 dollars for says it ran last year .. but couldn't get it started this year . He said he put sea foam in it ... I have not laid eyes on this bike yet.. just wanting to know if it is a waste of time ? So will any of the parts from a 1991 fit a 1984??? thanks
  8. yes it was the ground wire that came unplugged...
  9. I have the temp gauge working again ... Thanks to all the responded... I'm sure There will lots more questions ... Thanks again
  10. i dida second look.. there is two screw type sending units screwed into the radiator coupler. one to the outside has the green/red stripe hooked to it ( round style terminal) One unit closer to engine has a blade type terminal with no wire hooked to it... I see no wire available to hook to it???? does this need to be hooked up to get the fan/temp gauge to work?
  11. Hello , First off let me say that I believe that Old Goat is a stand up guy and that he told me everything he knew about the bike good and bad ... Question #1 I put some seafoam/gas into the bike started it up so the seafom would get into the carbs to maybe help out .. It ran for a bit and noticed the temp gauge didn't move .. the fan never came on ... then I noticed the the antifreeze come from underneath..(over heating ).. so i pulled the knob located next to the ignition.. the fan came on.. I have removed all the plastic from the bike ... where the temp gauge is there is a green/red stripe wire ,a black wire and a brown coming from the back of the temp gauge .. I tracked the green/red striped wire to the sending unit it was hooked up.. where the sending unit screws in there was a black wire with a male end that was screwed into the piece that the sending unit screws screws into was not hooked up.. I looked around and found another black wire (same gauge wire) with female end . ( the male end and the female looked factory) should these be hooked together ? Is this the ground for the gauge? also there was a blue wire that came out the same place as the green/red stripe wire .. it is hooked to a black wire ( not factory i don't think ) that goes to the knob i pulled to start the fan.. If i plug the black wires together will this make the temp gauge work? And is there a way I can test without starting bike ? Question #2 if you were standing at the side of the bike looking at the engine .. Between the back and the front set of cylinders there is a oblong piece of metal (don't know name ) That has hoses running to it.. On this piece of metal looks like a metal tube sticking up from it nothing attached ... Right above it is a hose (seems to be 3/8 ) that looks like it should attach to it ... Should these two be attached ? ... I'm going to replace all the hoses and clean all contact points .. since i have it this far apart.. I will have plenty of more dumb questions for you in time .. A big thanks to all that take the time to respond..
  12. Thanks for the replies .. I'm going to investigate this bike a little more ... wizard: I have only seen pictures of the bike the guy sent to me ... Cosmetic's of bike seems to be okay . Maybe some painting needed... but it is 28 years young so that should be expected . I do have accessed to a synchronize.. (but I have never used one ) ... In the picture that is what the mileage read on the odometer..??? I guess I'm Leary of is buying a non running bike and finding out there is major issue with engine ... I'm hoping to go see it in a day or two .. Is there any thing that I should look for when I go see it in person ??????
  13. I'm new here so please bare with me... I'm looking at a 1984 venture 1200 .He is wanting 1100.00 for it.. Here is what he has told me : It has 33,000 miles on it , the air suspension is fully functional , has all body pieces except for passenger foot rests .. tires have less than 100 miles on them ... It needs a new front caliper and pads , clutch slave cylinder , carbs need to be cleaned/tuned to run properly... He said it hasn't ran since last November. I have never worked on a motorcycle except for routine maintenance (2007 v-max).. I have work on my own cars since I was 16 I'm 43 now. So I do have some mechanical ability.. So are these parts very expensive? Would they be hard to replace ? Is it something that can be done without specialty tools? All opinion and responses welcome . Thanks chuck
