  1. Ease up up Randy, he has a 1st gen. Don't have to tear half the motor down to do it. And it has a center stand !! Gary
  2. MiCarl is in Plymouth, Michigan. PM him. He has done more than a few. Gary
  3. This helps clarify the 83 1/2 I bought a couple of months ago. # JYA47R00XDA000147 Gary
  4. PDF cut of service manual for compression check. Reader's Digest version is 142 PSI min, 192 PSI max. 171 PSI avg There should be no more than 10% variation between high & low cylinders. Gary
  5. About half full on the reservoir. It has an overflow tube that will dump it out the back of the bike if it is to full, no harm no foul. Gary
  6. Some pictures attached showing R/R mounting. Gary
  7. I know this will be a question without a definitive answer, but what does he charge for a pinstripe job, on average. I am sure it will be a variable number depending on what is wanted, but a ballpark range would be nice. I have a blank, yellow canvas that needs some highlights. Gary
  8. When you buy PreMix coolant, you are paying an outrageous price for water. Buy a gallon of standard antifreeze and mix it 50/50 in another container. Personally I think you are going overboard flushing it that many times, unless it looks very dirty. If it does look dirty inside, which I have not seen one that was, then you probably want to consider a Prestone flush kit. Drain it stick a hose in radiator cap and let some water flow through for a couple of minutes & be done with it. You will need to fill it as full as it will go, leave radiator cap off, then start motor and allow it to come up to full temp in order to get radiator topped off. Gary
  9. Attached is a schematic for an 88-89 MKII cruise related circuits. I took the full wiring diagram and deleted anything unrelated to cruise functions. This will be very similar to all the MKII's Full circuits are located at link below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showthread.php?t=42358 Gary
  10. Is cruise totally not working or intermittent. Try holding set button in for 3~5 seconds & see if that helps. Do indicator lights in pod change when you try to engage cruise? Something to check that will cause cruise issues is the amount of slack in the cable from the bellows to the throttle cable junction box. PIA to check cause left front fairing has to come off. Free play is supposed to be 1/16". Other issues could be loose or bad switch/housing on clutch. Brakes are easy to verify as brake light will not work correct if these have issues, but the clutch side is a little sneakier. Do the turn signals self cancel? If not this could indicate a problem with the reed switch in the speedometer head. Same switch is tied to holding speed & sending info to turn signal cancel circuit. Could be dirty contacts in throttle side switch. Cruise is hard to troubleshoot, cause it don't work below about 30mph, hard to test in the garage. Gary
  11. Sit on bike, pull the front brake back and 'throw' your weight against the handlebars. Progressives aren't going to collapse much. Stock springs will go pretty far down with little or no air in front end. Gary
  12. The large rubber gizzmo is the intake valve for the CLASS system. It is not attached to anything on this end. There is a one way valve in the large section. There is nothing in this end of the bike that will affect the cruise control. Cruise has its own vacuum pump located under right front fairing. You might be able to see it if you pull right front turn signal out. This is the 88 i am guessing, is the pod lighting up when you press the power button? Gary
  13. This is going back a ways. Gary
  14. I have talked to the Quaker Steak & Lube that we have went to the last 2 years in Shefield, Oh and they have a large party booked Friday night. The QSL in Vermillion can handle us. They have 28 tables on the dock balcony. It will be somewhat different than the Sheffield site, but still dinner together. This one will be a more traditional outdoor setting rather than the picnic type tables. We will need to use the tables to the maximum capacity, but we are all friends here. It is the same distance as Sheffield. About a 20 mile ride. Last 2 years people left in small groups to go to QSL. But I would say plan on around 5:00~6:00 time at restaurant. Link to Vermillion site: http://quakersteakandlube.com/Vermilion_OH/ I am putting an event on the calender for this. Map from Don's to QSL link below. This will actually be a nicer ride than to the one in Sheffield. http://g.co/maps/75rae Please let me know an approximate head count. Added calender link below. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/ca...y=2012-6-1&c=1 Gary
  15. What is the source of this information ?? Have never heard this one before. The VMax & FJR final drives have different gearing for sure. Gary
  16. As Swifty said be careful. These are a shoulder screws. Once the screw as been tightened to the point of contacting the shoulder, there will be no more compression applied to the gasket. A method several have used is to get a very thin washer very close to the head diameter and place it next to the screw head. This allows a little more compression before shoulder seats. Gary
  17. A waterproof solution for those annoying washers. Gary
  18. Sorta same concept as Scotch. 1st 3 were hard to take, but by the 4th one, it got easier. I may have a little Kentucky home made. Gary
  19. Someone within the last week had a similar problem. They ended up gutting out the proportioning valve and it bled out right away. Not saying this is a great idea with linked brakes, but it did work. Gary
  20. I see that you are coming to Freebird's next week. I possibly could be motivated to take you out for a short ride and educate you on the vast potential that lies within the 1st gen's. Gary
  21. It will help !! It isn't a cure all though. Many things can lead to squirrley handling. Gary
  22. Not good ones !! Gary
  23. The problem is with the owners manual, service manual is OK. Gary
  24. Check & clean the pickup coils to main harness connector. Located near shock damper. 6 pin connector with 5 wires in it. Gary
