Hi Vic, I hope youre doing well. This Sanyo Xacti works well for me, i use it as a solid state camcorder and as a still digital camera. I velcroed a regular mini tripod to my handlebars on my bike and it worked fairly well even with the vibration, it has a anti shake setting on it. ( i have solid motor mounts, not rubber) I have dropped this camera a few times and it seems to take the abuse well. I also like the fact the it is held like a handgun, so one hand operation works well for when its on the bike or in a crowd. It is also easy to run with one button operation. I use a couple of 4 gig sd cards and the hold lots of video. http://sanyo.com/xacti/english/products/vpc_ca9/index.html Here are some links to youtube for the videos I took while it was attached to my handlebars. Somewhere west for the international rally would be great as its been east for a couple of years now. How about somewhere like Spearfish SD? Or somewhere in MT or UT? Or even Nelson BC? Brian

Would it be possible to cut a sheet of aluminum or something none rusting to fit the bottom of the trunk, drill holes in it to match your trunk bottom. That would allow the weight to be distributed better and the bolts wouldnt stress the plastic. Or look up the stuff called Plastex, I saw Rocket and Mother working with it at Kruisn the Kootenays and it did a great job of fixing and filling the plastic on our scoots. Brian

I think you had better make up another set for Condor, he is a ttttaaallllllll guy too, and always seems to need more space to stretch out. Brian

I found this while I was wandering around the net the other day. I think they would look great on a bike that has been de-badged. http://www.emblemzz.com/Scripts/prodView.asp?idproduct=244 Brian

It was actually one of those moments of frustration where ya just push everything you can just to releive the tension and it actually kinda startled me when it started when the horn blew.... and it started at the same time.....lol Brian

yeah letting air out of the class will lower it, but my 85 at the lowest setting still makes me have to look where I stop. I still cannot flat foot my bike at intersections even at the lowest settings and I have about a 30 inch inseam. I do have a saddlemens seat on mine that might be higher than stock, but they are a tall bike by anyones standards. BUT that being said, I still love my 85 Brownie Venture. Brian

I knew the headlight on my 85 G1 shuts off when the starter is depressed, which led me to beleive the switch is working ok. Thanks for the input guys, I will start checking out these things as i just dont think i can trust a bike that needs a horn to start,,,,:whistling: Brian

I started having an weird intermittent starting issue with my 85 when I was at Kruisn the Kootenays a couple of weeks ago. About 99% of the time the bike starts fine, but, every once in a while it wont click ,turn over, or make any noise at all. All my gauges work, everything has power, headlight is on and shuts off when I press the start button,so it looks to me like the start switch works ok, and yes, the kill switch is in the run position . After a time I can go back and it starts fine, no set time or temperature hot or cold doesnt seem to matter. BUT I found out yesterday and again today that if I hold the starter button down and press the horn it starts! Is this a bad ground? I am an electrical moron, does someone have an idea where I should start? It does have a relay with the Stebel horn that was installed last winter. And my side stand switch appears to be working properly as it kills the engine when I put it down and the warnings show up in the dash when it is down. Brian:bang head:

If youre taking the Trans Canada hiway from Nova scotia to Vancouver, youre gonna cross the Canadian prairie from Winnipeg Manitoba to Calgary Alberta. I am in Regina Saskatchewan and about halfway between them and a good place to overnight. If you need a place to stay or want someone to ride with send me a pm and we can set something up! Ride safe! 1st Gen brake upgrade
friesman replied to CrazyHorse's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
An easier upgrade might be to install stainless lines, I couldnt believe the improvement in my 85 after the new lines went in. I can stop in about 1/2 the distance i could before and the brakes feel solid now. I didnt change and calipers or rotors out, just the lines. the lines are about 400 bucks but well worth the upgrade in my mind. Plus it gives me peace of mind knowing that I am not relying on a 25 year old rubber line to hold my brake pressure in an emergency stop. Brian -
Need some backrest pics
friesman replied to Squidley's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
Mine is, I have the saddlemans seat on mine with the center post back rest. The backrest is great, the seat is kinda iffy and not shaped right for my butt. Brian- 30 replies

Does all 1st gen bikes have a whine?
friesman replied to coltrain's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
My Brown 85 whines loudly from 2800 to about 3200 rpm and seems to be normal for these bikes. My engine and trans was out of the bike over the winter and had a complete looking over and check. It has the same whine now that it had last summer so I dont think I would worry about yours. I put about 4500 kms on mine last week through mountains, flatlands, cool temp and hot temps and it whined all the way, but I love that bike! Brian -
Lots of dishwashers will foam out the door causing a big mess when using a regular type of soap or shampoo in them as they create subs that gets forced out the door seals. If you do use shampoo, use it very sparingly and keep an eye on the dishwasher in case a leak starts. Brian

Ive got a leak on my G1 85 and Ive used simple green to clean everything on the bike. I spray the pipes, paint , and just about everything that can get dirty or oily. It is sposed to be environmentally friendly. just spray it on and wait for a bit and hose it off. brian

If youre going thru Glacier you may need them at altitude like on the going to the sun Hiway, there was still snow there the last time was there in August. Calgary is about the same climate, but usually warm sunny days in summer but cool or cold nights. Here is a 14 day graph of the weather in Calgary keep in mind that 21c is about 72F, http://www.theweathernetwork.com/index.php?product=fourteenday&placecode=caab0049&ref=wxeyewx14dayv2 Here is the Banff 14 day sliding forecast, I usually find its quite a bit cooler even though its only a bit over an hour from Calgary, I guess its the altitude http://www.theweathernetwork.com/index.php?product=fourteenday&placecode=caab0016&ref=wxeyewx14dayv2 Brian I may be running thru Banff and Calgary area after touring BC after Kruisn the Kootenays, if you want to see if we can get together, shoot me a pm and we will see if our schedules meetup.

This '91 is driving me nutz.
friesman replied to Condor's topic in Venture and Venture Royale Tech Talk ('83 - '93)
OK Guys , I will try and get it gone today,... I hate to see Jack without a project to ponder over. Thanks for the use of it Herb, I will send some cash your way for the postage, I really appreciate it. I still got a leak, but its not my gear indicator anymore, it looks like the shifter pass through and the stator grommet. That is a handy tool to have kicking around! Brian -
I am sorry to hear that youre having issues with your bike. My 85 broke the output shaft last summer and I thought I was going ot have to part out the bike, but Rocket rebuilt it for me. Rocket is a great help and I am sure if you have any questions and concerns you could PM him or call him and he could walk you thru the gotchas that always crop up. Brian

Beware using your debit card at the gas pump
friesman replied to Venturous Randy's topic in Watering Hole
yep this happened to me last summer on my trip to VW IV last summer, all along the way i was debiting gas through montana and Nevada into california, then when we get down to SLO to check in my card came up insuff funds when it check in time at the Motel6. It kinda makes your heart skip a beat when youre that far from home, lol. Thanks to Condor for helping me out right there, but I got on the phone with my bank the next morning to straighten it out, but it coulda been a bit interesting if I was travelling alone not having access to funds for a hotel room. Brian -
Are you sure you can find a spot in your uniquely arranged garage for that newest acquisition? I am sure a couple of members would be happy to stop by and help you clean out (oops I mean clean up) the garage. LOL!!! Brian

Actually you guys, the price isnt that far out of line for my part of Canada, so maybe his area will be the same even though we are just about as far apart as LA and New York. There is an 85 sold last week almost identical to mine with bad 2nd gear and he got 3500 for it and it had 107kms on it (about 63ooo miles). MIne cost me 4k about a year and a half ago and mine had about 27000kms on it (good second gear, bad output gears, lol!) i found another 85 $4000 65000miles http://www.usedregina.com/classified-ad/8226985 Who says we have free health care up here...lol!
