Hi Jack This would be a good time to pick up a new drive, install it as new master, unplug your old drive, install XP on your new drive and then hook up your old drive to get all your data off and use it as storage. Anytime you install anything or store files save to the secondary drive. That way the next time XP goes south on you all you do is reinstall XP on your primary and all your files are still on thje secondary drive. Another thing I have done when in a hurry, (but only after getting a copy of your data off the drive) is just install Xp over top of the corrupt install and it usually installs just fine and all programs run as they did before. BUT this only works about 60%-70% of the time, sometimes ya still gotta format the drive...lol Another thing to do after you have it all back together is install a free program called Mozy home ( https://mozy.com/registration/free)that allows 2 gigs of free backups to their servers and it allows you to schedule and everything. Its kinda nice to have the really important files offsite in case of something catastrophic. If you get stuck give me a call 306-539-0728 (cell) Good luck Brian

If you were hard into the throttle, I am guessing that it is your oil level light, as the sensor is at the front of the pan. My 1st gen has done that a couple of times when Ive really been accellerating hard. Brian

Hey Gene No apology needed! We are happy to hear a story like yours where youre busy and doing well. Its so refreshing from all the gloom and doom we hear on the News media. I wont need my bags now until next spring, but please give me a heads up when the time gets close to production. Brian

those look good Rick. Ive been looking for 35 w lights for awhile as my 55 w halogens really light up the road but I worry about charging limits. I might have to give those a look. Have a good Thanksgiving! Brian

thats the reason I check my tires every 2 days and more often if sumthing doesnt feel right. Plus it gives me a chance to have a real good look at the tire for cuts, cracks or nails. Brian

I like IE8 and it also adds some security features to help protect you while surfing. However I still use Firefox mostly for my surfing as I like the fact it follows the standards set out, where MS just kinda invents its own stuff as it goes along not following the intl rules and guidelines. Brian

We had a gorgeous Sept mostly 90f (33C) or higher everyday and now within a few days we are expecting a high tomorrow of ONLY 30f (-1c). We had an inch of snow last night and are expecting a bit more tomorrow, but at least i wasnt in Banff, i hear they got to -20c whats that around 0F? Maybe its just as well, I picked a shingle nail in my front tire and really didnt feel like spending the money on a new tire right now, so I can park my bike and not feel guilty...lol Any one got a good deal on a front tire for a G1? Brian

Pistons and Rings

Rocket redid my 85 last winter after the main output shaft went. The things you should do when it is out of the bike REALLY add up. I think I remember solid motor mounts (spongy rubber), water pump (cracked impeller) , stainless brake lines, new spark plug wires, replace thrust washer to harder to make sure 2nd gear never goes, and several other things that just needed replacing. My view is that you would definitley be cheaper replacing the engine with a known good 1300, plus it would be easier. I would still recommend replacing the motormounts with the metal ones, it really stiffens up the bikes frame and handling. Brian:mo money: -
Who cares if 2nd goes when you could have a nice ride like that. Brian

This gorgeous trike was at a show a couple of weeks ago , and i noticed that it had a Venture engine in it. When I looked at the plaque it said it was a 1985 Venture Royale. Yamaha should take some notes, .....but its missing the cassette player. Sorry about the pics, i had to use Debs Blackberry camera and it really doesnt show off the paint or the quality of the build, but you get the idea. Brian

Dumping gas

I would skip the stabilizer, as Seafoam is also a stabilizer as well as a gas treatment. Brian -
I would like 2 of the 1st gen. Thanks for doing this, they look great. Brian

I would always rather ride my bike than trailer it. BUT, last summer I hadnt had the bike very long and really didnt trust a 24 year old bike to go on a 4 to 5 thousand mile trip to California and back. Eespecially when parts seem to take a while to show up for these 1st gens. So i just trailered it to Sacremento and rode with Condor and Lone eAGLE and a few others down to Venture West in LOS OSOS. As it turned out it was probably a good thing as it broke while I was in Los Osos. Jercoupe and Bev hauled my bike in the back of their truck back up to Condors place so I could take it back home and get it rebuilt. Brian

My experience with fedex has not been good as far as pricing goes. the service the same speed as USPS but on a 350 wheel chock from California cost me 75 bucks extra in brokerage fees. UPS charged me almost 40 bucks on a hundres dollar satellite radio combo. Now I will refuse anything not shipped USPS/Canada Post from the states to my canadian address, as there is no hidden brokerage fees and it takes about 10 days to receive my goods. Occasionally, dependin on where the item is made there is customs fees but it never ever has the hidden charges that alll the so called premium couriers charge. Over the last couple of years I have recieved a couple of parcels a month from the US and Ive tried every possible way to save the cash, and USPS is the best solution as far as I am concerned. Brian

My 85 would make me cringe everytime i would use the starter when it was hot, the engine cranked over very slowly, but it did start every time. Last winter the battery cables were replaced with a much heavier guage cable and it spins over like a new machine when I start now. Brian

Geez, I hope ya at least got kissed after you renewed. I surprised youre still finding the seat on the scoot so comfy after that going over that ya got. I thought mine was bad at about 1048 yearly for almost exactly the same coverage except i get 750 deduct. Then I get my 20% off for my good driving record. I only pay for the 6-8 months I am riding so the rest of the year costs me 58 bucks for storage insurance for the whole year. Brian BTW my insurance is provincial govt like yours.
