  1. That may be so, but I have never seen an OEM cb on an 85 VR. Most of us 85 VR's have the rest of the toys but the cb's seem to be scarce. BRian
  2. I think its close, but I cant be certain that it will work for you. I bought one last year that wouldnt work for my 85 (without mods), but Rocket found one that would fit mine , so we traded as the one I bought would fit his 83. Brian
  3. When Rocket put the progressives in mine the spacer block that came with the springs to load them wasnt put in at all because I was concerned about windsheild height fitting in my storage trailer. Without the spacers it made the assembly much easier and I still dont run any air in the forks. It still sits slightly higher than stock, but i love the way it handles and if I want more height (dont know why) i can add air. Brian
  4. hehehe come on now, dont hold back, tell us how you really feel, :stirthepot: brian
  5. Take care , both of you guys, I hope Charlene has a fast, pain free, full recovery. Brian
  6. Here is the rate calculator for most vehicles. In saskatchewan we have provincially run vehicle insurance that includes collision, theft, fire, comprehensive along with liability. For my bike i usually pay by the month and i carry a storage policy that costs me about 50 bucks a year on my 85 venture. There is also a box about a discount for various amounts of claims, accidents and driving violations etc, i get the maximum discount points at 15 so they give me a 20% discount. http://www.sgi.sk.ca:8080/VehicleFeeCalculator/make.do Brian:mo money:
  7. I am just using one stebel not 2 , and everyone hears when i press the horn button. Brian
  8. I am hoping that the weather holds for you. You shouldnt delay picking it up as there is a huge Colorado low pushing lots of snow and rain and cold weather here and its headed southeast from me. THey have almost closed down hiways and travel is highly discouraged. They are predicting 10 inches by tomorrow, so I am really hoping it holds off for you until you get your bike home. Brian
  9. whaddya all think, its been dumped or hit from behind and this was the cheap fix? Brian
  10. If you have some bills where the work was done, perhaps you could ask them to dig thru thee records, but I dont think it likely on a bike thats 25 years old. I really think the only reason most records get kept at all is for warranty, after that youre on your own. My stealer just laughed when I asked him about doing some work, so when I do decide to buy something else he will never ever get my business. But it seems to be the norm with dealerships, they dont want to do the service once warranty is over. theres a dealer about an hour from here that has an 20 year venture veteran working so i will deal there . Brian
  11. Hmmm sounds like something Boomer shouldnt have done in the first place.........:rotfl: Brian
  12. Thanks for sharing that tip. I wonder if its the polarized sunglasses that work or just the tint? I can see where the polarizing would take the bouncing light away, just never ever thought of it. Brian
  13. ......Serial number 1413 in 1985 so I guess you gotta treat that 2nd gear nicely for a while. Sorry to be the bearer of not-so-good news. At the top of this article they state the serial number. http://www.venturerider.org/forum/showpost.php?p=3927&postcount=1 Brian
  14. I have a gear set i bought for cheap when i redid my output set. if ya need the set let me know. Glorious Maxie Brown is beautiful, Dan you just didnt know it until now....lol Brian
  15. Welcome to the group! Its good to see another 85 owner around. Mine was in the same shape as yours when I bought it a couple of years ago, but i sure paid more money than you did. Congrats on picking out a great bike and the best year. I call it the best year as we have the faster mk1 1200 bikes and the larger top bag thats removable with the key that no other year has. If you can get the backrest , it helps a lot on the long rides and check out installing some kryakin longhorn offset highway pegs. it sure feels good to stretch out. If you need any info, please feel free to ask me or any one here there is some great knowledge kicking around. Youre in good company with the 85, chaharley, gigawhiskey, pbandj, YammerDan, myself and a few others all run the 85s and love them (Oh and Jack (Condor) my choke lever slides horizontally in front of my left thumb) Enjoy!! Brian PS we need more better pics!
  16. I drive a 2007 Ford Escape, its been a great reliable machine and goes thr almost any kind of snow slush better than anything ive owned. It tows my 12 x6 trailer with the Venture inside failry easily but it did grunt going up the mountain passes. My biggest quibble with it is the mileage, it seldom gets more than 25mpg and when pulling the trailer i get 15-18 depending on wind. Brian:2cents:
  17. i am gonna hafta assume this is the beta 2 test version? Brian
  18. well, some ppl call me fat ,...... i prefer to think of it as circumferentially-challenged............:rotf: Brian
  19. Hey James, dont sweat it, i think we have all learned to read things 2 or 3 times before pushing the send button, (usually learned after making an unintended comment about something) THose darn characters on the keyboard just dont put any inflection or body language on a comment. Stick around James and most of us will let you buy us a beer to make it up to us...... OOPs! there goes another one! just kidding Its good to have you around, so please stick around to help me keep these crotchty old guys in line!!!! Brian
  20. I always check NewEnough.com for any riding wear and Ive always found them to be very competitive in pricing, and their service in case of wrong sizing or any issue is superb. Heres a link to just one kind of boot they have for ladies, Have a look around as the ladies sizes arent shown separately they are mixed in with all the other sizes available for that boot. New enough also explains sizing better than most web businesses by having staff try it out and describe it. http://www.newenough.com/boots/waterproof_sport_street_touring_boots/tour_master/solution_wp_road_motorcycle_boots.html Brian
  21. I have known about the Olympics in Vancouver for years,,,,and i really want to go but, i gotta pick my priorities and my wallet just keeps telling me that i cant fit that trip in this year. Heres a pic ive found of Vancouver harbour with the rings illuminated, its a gorgeous spot in the world!!! Brian
  22. I usually take my bike out around Mar15th , last year was late it was Apr4 or 5th but it was one of the coldest winters and springs on record. So i guess the 2 month countdown has begun!!! Brian
  23. I agree with ya that everyone has to make their own choices. I also like that you like to see if we are still reading the posts by stirring thing....lol! I personally prefer to wear most of the gear, BUT there are days when the mood just doesnt strike me that I need it, so Its my choice and no one else's. Brian
  24. I found my 85 bad for buffetting with the slip stream windshield, but the xxl clearview is 2-3 inches wider and taller and the buffetting is way less for me. The XXl actually goes past the mirrors to protect you pretty effectively on the g1 ventures. Brian
  25. Have ya checked flat out motorcycles just enter the number in the parts section and theyll give ya the price if they got it. I find them pretty good on most pricing, its where most of the parts came from when Rocket rebuilt my 85. Right now with the exchange getting in our favour again prices should be even better. Brian
