  1. Hi all, my 03 venture has always jumped when I first put it in gear after sitting over night. The clutch fluid is full, I have "pumped" the clutch before putting it in gear, no change. It is like all the oil is pushed out of the clutch disks and plates while it is sitting for a while. Once I take off, no more problems for the rest of the day. I installed the PCW spring kit and all new disks. Should I be concerned?? Wayne
  2. Just finnished installing the new clutch in my Venture. New clutch disks and PCW HD spring kit. Whoever did the last job had 3 disks in wrong and the pressure plate not lined up. Not sure if that makes all that much differance but it doesn't jerk when I put it into gear now. The clutch lever isn't much different than it was before. This was an easy install! I HAD to buy new tools to do the job right.....right. Once again thank you all very much for all the info on the clutch. Wayne
  3. I just did my clutch up-grade and what a difference. Makes me wonder how long this darn thing has been slipping, I can't remember when it last ran like this. She really hooks up now. The cluth disks did'nt look too bad, a little blued. I sanded them a little (cross hatch) and put it back together, NICE! BIG THANKS! Carl:thumbsup:
  4. My Yamaha dealer put an aftermarket rear disk on my bike last year, and it has been squealing ever since. It has slots in it but they are 90 degrees to the axle rather than slanted, and I am sure that is the problem, because the same new pads are doing fine on the front with the OEM disks. The OEM disks are $500+ IF you can order them and you can't right now from what I have seen. I have found just one aftermarket source and they are $225 or so. anyone found anything else that works? Used ones are hard to find and probably worn out. http://www.perfectbrakes.com/products.asp?cat=8079
  5. Has anyone tried more upgrading of brakes then just the different calipers? The front disks on these bikes are pretty small by todays standards. I'm sure there are no bolt on bigger disks available. If you did this you would need to change the way the calipers would mount to get them to lineup with the disks. My questions are: Is there a front wheel from a different bike that would work that has bigger disks on it? Is there a set of forks and a wheel that might work with our bikes? Is it possible to drill a set of disks to fit on the bike? Any other suggestions? I'm not afraid to do the work any suggestions would be helpful. I'm not afraid to experiment.
  6. OK, I am not the sharpest tack in the box so someone out there should be able to help me with this. I have the 550 and I know that you can store music on this thing to listen to--I have a 2 gig SD card and can not figure out how to keep my CD's together when I put the songs on the card. I have a 3 disk series of George Jones and want to keep each disk's songs together but when I load the disks on the SD card all the songs load by the song number. All the 01 songs are together then the 02--03 etc. How do I load the disks and keep them as they are on the CD? Is this confusing enough???
  7. Just replaced clutch disks and clutch lever is tight and will not squeeze. I may have squeezed it while the disks where off and no pressure plate or retainer screws where in place. What do I do? What would have this thing hemmed up to where clutch will no work? I am stumped!!! Would someone please spread some great clutch knowledge my way? You guys are great!!Thanks!!!!!!
  8. My bike has 66,000 miles on it and recently I noticed that it wasn't engaging until the lever was almost all the way out. It never did slip. I ordered new friction disks and almost as an after thought bought a PWC heavy duty spring from somebody on the forum. When I took things apart this morning I checked the thickness of the old friction plates and the new ones. There wasn't much difference between them ( about the middle of the tolerance range .118). I put the old disks back in with the PWC spring. Now it engages close to the handlebar.
